I gotta agree. Assuming that Renegade pistol goes to us as a Master cert, I just couldn't...like it. I mean, I'd rather have the "super" slice or just be very unorginal and do the DL-44a or something. Cause honestly, that Renegade looks like a some sort of monster glue gun.

Not to mention the already mentioned fact that we still couldn't hit the broad side of a space dock or shoot it at a reasonable speed. OR that we could use the thing to blast our way out of a sticky situation involving a a botched scan evasion, a couple crates of glitterstim, and some local planet authorities.

I got a feeling that theseguns are the "fixes to some pressing correspondant issues" that the Devs were promoting. Such as the lack of BH "equipment" andsmuggler's/our lack of a profession specific weapon. If this is the case, I so wish they would have confronted Caylin on it so we could have had some input. I mean, I don't think anyone here is going to turn down attention but at the same time, I don't think anything close to a majority would rather have had a crummy pistol over getting a few things fixed or modified (spices/experimentation, add something usefull to Underworld, DOCUMENTATION).

That's just my opinion, but I could be wrong

I disagree with this, specifically for one reason: /setCurrentSkillTitle combat_smuggler_master

While I agree that we smugglers dont get any love, I personally think a weapon cert is exactly the type of bright shiny thing they would try and distract us from our eternaly put off revamp.

Well Thunderheart doesn't seem to think that Smugglers are a combat or crafter profession as he stated here

Agreed. Its something I spoke with San about last night. "Smuggling" really is a spacey kind of profession and doing something on the ground really needs to be thought out.

With that being said, Im working on the Smuggler and Squad Leader profession revamp posts this week. Im just taking the time to put together some really nice posts so that the answers that players put forth can be easily handled and used by the dev team.

Currently, people don't say, "hey we're going out hunting, lets make sure we have a smuggler". That shortfall is something that needs to be included in the revamp thread.

And this is what I was basing my statement on.

Think the scene in Preaditor where the mini-gun toting character decides to make cole-slaw out of the surrounding jungle in an effort to kill the unseen foe.

That would be Governor Jessie "The Body" Ventura. Best damn part of the movie, he was.

Perhapswe are notenvisioned as a "combat" profession, your quote certianly offers a strong case for it. I also recall a quote elsewhere regarding a planned Hutt Casino with adventuring quests for the non-combat, "social" proffessions specifically mentioning entertainers and smugglers as target professions.

But while both theseexamples show at least a creative interest in the developersviewing the smuggler profession as less combat oriented, both also discus ideas which never came to be. As a Master Smuggler for many months now, my jaded eye passes right over posts with Red-named authors. Ive learned not to invest as much time and effort into those posts and their topics- more often than not, theydo notplay out.

I suppose to support my argument that we are, at least for the time being, a combat-oriented profession, I would site my own current experiences. I dont slice anything for anyone but old customers and myself nowadays. I make spice as a side project, more as support/supply for my alt Master Merchant's business, and my FP sales are more of a nuisance thana profitable venturethese days because of the heavy Jedi presence- going overt has become quite bothersome.

While I still do all those things to some degree, the Smuggler skills I rely on regularly are FD and the pistol specials. Even my slicing and spice are used primarily to augment my combat capabilities rather than for profit, slicing multiple pieces until I can retain the "perfect" slice for myself.

I don't disagree with you in the spirit of our profession... only in its current execution. Adding to all thisthe fact thatwe will remain this way for many more months, and that having our own pistol has been on and off our wish lists for as long as I have been a smuggler, I still put my creds on a cert.

Is it a sure thing? No, I'd say more like 60/40. But I got a good feeling about this one, and I'm keeping my creds on the table. And if I'm wrong, I'll open up a pair of characters on Kettelmore long enough to tip you the 500 creds.

Gotta quote Caylin there because that's a great line.......but it was not the Governor in that scene KabaI. The scene was when his character is killed and his friend Mac sees the Predator in the jungle, eyes lightingup for a brief flash, before Mac reaches down and grabs the mini-gun unloading into the jungle to get the Predator.

Oh, it's been so long since I've watched Predator, that I didn't even think that he was dead at the time. I just remember The Body kicking ass in that movie.

Well, it was Mac who did the forest razing with the gun after Jesse got a hole blown through his chest the size of a basketball.

Yet Ventura did have the tyronnasaurs quote, the 'I don't have time to bleed' quote and a few other instances of total carnage that made him one of the better members of the party, though he dies in what, the first 45 minutes?

Sorry, visiting the Smuggler forum and saw this after watching Predator a few nights ago. Figured you'd rather somebody friendly drop that before some Jedi goes and watches AvP then flames you for not beinga l33t d3wd.

The loot is a hair trigger, required for the grip, a high-output powerhandler for the blaster chamber assembly, and then a bolt emitter for the finished weapon schematic.

Each item dropps off one NPC, who only spawns once a day, and only has one item on him at a time, if any.

Then the devs decide a month later the Master Smuggler weapon is too powerfull, and nerf it down to just above a CDEF in power, yet still requiring Master Smuggler to use...
For the love of God, don't give them ideas......
