Hm, anyone in particular, I guess it'd have to be Homer Simpson. For all the reasons in "Homer's Enemy."
Other than that, I look to organized crime, which has shown me that you CAN be an upstanding member of the community and also commit felony upon felony.

Hmm, I would have to say 2 different inspirations.
Han Solo (he's one bad mother-shut-yo-mouth)
Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart's character in Casablanca)
Han Solo is there because he's a scoundrel, pure and simple. Not afraid to shoot first and ask questions later. Not at all afraid to overcharge a hermit and whiny farmer for an 'easy' charter flight.
Gotta go with Senor Rick as well, a truly smooth talking cat with a chip on his shoulder.
What both of these characters have in common is a very rough exterior covering a heart of gold. Their mercenary tendencies are always on display for everyone around them to see, but when push comes to shove, they come through in the end.

Ray Elwood - Buffalo Soldiers: This guy is the man and defeats any arguements of why I am an Imperial Smuggler.
Han Solo - Episode 5: "I know" anyone cool enough to pull off this line is da man. Mr Solo had to be in there of course.
Jon Shannow -Bloodstone Triolgy by David Gemmell: deadliest person with a gunI can ever imagine.
Spike - Cowboy Bebop: This man his just stylish as well as deadly with fists, guns and fighters.
Kenneth Gibson - Myself: I bring that rough brit slang to my character. Not those refined brits you see on the TV

Han Solo is my inpiration. Talon Karrde is awesome, as well as Booster. I like the two even more so than Han. But those two were something a little unachievable at the moment. Karrde runs a massive smuggling group from his Kick-a$$ Wild Karrde. Booster runs around in a Star Destroyer. Han on the other hand has a transport and pistol. I'm a pistol toten smuggler. Then again, my character's background is something comparable to Luke if he had said "Your right Han, the Rebels are dumb, Ben was an old foggy, and creds, girls, wookies, vests, pistols, and the Falcon are way cool. Screw the Death Star, lets go see Jabba."
You never know where the Defel Spy will be, until you flip the light switch.

Hmm... the ultimate inspiration would have been Han Solo before Ep IV.
But there so many influences that formed my characters... even people ingame helped to form them.
