Thread: I don't think we should settle.

I agree whole heartedly. I will accpet this....for now....as passing to get us through a bad time. However, this is exactly 100% not what we were told we were getting with the slicing revamp.
I don't think we should settle.

With newer, and more updated games on the market, SWG is considerably sub-par - and if I was SOE, I'd probably be putting my credits down on a new horse - not trying to revive an old one.Although I would LOVE to see those changes, it would be so damn cool, maybe I have become so much of a cynic that I just do not expect anything close to what we are looking for.I think that slicing can stay the way it is - of course fixing that crap what dont work - maybe making the % increases a bit higher (like 2-3 times) - but all in all - before this game dies, I wanna see some smuggler content.Ok. Flame away.
No flames, just this:
This is not a dying game, nor is it sub-par. For better or for worse, it's currently the ONLY mmo with enough depth to keep me interested. I'm currently a Smuggler, Bounty Hunter, Mayor, Pilot, Party-goer, RPer, I'm a Senator in a guild that is currently maintaining 3 Guild-only cities, 2 of which have shuttleports, when I'm not working on getting to the Avatar Platform or out hunting Gurks, or doing any of the afore-mentioned items (except Smuggle, can't do that yet), I'm usually fishing.
However, with the exception of: Mayor, RPer, Partier, Fisherman, and Gurk Hunter, each of the Aforementioned could use quite a bit more depth and detail.
Would SOE rather find a new game to market, or "revive" this one? They're idiots if they don't think they could outsubscribe WoW with a STARWARS mmo. Again, in case you didn't hear that, STARWARS. Pretty much the most marketable license known to man.
They've been half-assing it for a long time. I don't think we deserve it, I think something like that would be the first step towards a better and more saleable game. Imagine if, after they made a slicing system like that, they turned their attention towards Smuggling with the same zeal. Then They moved on to Bounty Hunter, in the mean time assigning their secondary team to, rather than churn out weird out of place WoW-clone expansions, work on making things like Ranger, CH, Commando, etc. more viable as professions. Whichever team finishes first, starts work on the Entertainers. Other team then gets going on DE's and crafters in general, and when all is said and done, they even give Jedi a once over. Year, year and a half tops, assuming the marketers and the executives and some douchebag at LA doesn't impede it.

My friend - if only you were Management at SOE. THen my opinion would be changed.
I love the game - as its the only game that lets me be myself in the StarWars Universe. Which is a big thing all in its self. However, I am still saddened to see too much things that need fixing, and no timeline (or maybe no time to implement) for such cahanges.
If only they could invest a little manpower & moola into the game, it would be outstanding.
riotcontrol; "All I'm going to say about this issue is: If this, much more simple part of the "Revamp" was so different from what was seen in the In Concept forums, I'm really, really afraid of what will happen to the Smuggling missions, especially considering that most people are hoping for more than the In Concept document said, not less. "

It's obvious why the took down the In Concept posts and haven't replaced them.
First, they didn't want us comparing THIS slicing implimentation with what they proposed In Concept. Bait and switch.
Second, as riotcontrol pointed out, we ought to be quite worried about what kind of watered down version of the smuggling content they're planning on giving us. Why did they take the smuggling thread down? Why wasn't it replaced with an update? What ARE we going to get? Is it going to be sprung on us like this watered down slicing version was?
Once again expediencey has ruled at SOE and we get shafted for it.

We have not gotten what we've been promised. An innovative new system.
I'm seeing a lot of "I'm dissapointed but I'll live with it if it's a little better than the last system" posts. SCREW THAT. What is this place, a slave camp? "Well, I was going to escape, but the new whip doesn't hurt as bad as the old whip"
What I think slicing should be:
An ongoing thing. You're resting between hunts, your sitting in a cantina, you're relaxing in your YT's lounge... you break out your gun and your tools and start fiddling. you tweak this, add some insulation to your power handler, replace the cheap copper wires with some superconducting silicon wires, adjust the damage range up a bit...
basically something a smuggler type would be doing in his spare time. Making the tools he uses work better, in whatever way he can at the moment. Like souping up a car, or Overclocking and modding a computer.
We should have a a graphical interface, like ID's, we should have a variety of parts craftable by Smugglers, Artisans, Weaponsmiths, Armorsmiths, hell, even DE's and Architects. And some lootable and Smuggling quest reward parts.
And the mods should show up on the guns when/if they fix weapon appearances. (I'm picturing a goldplated, pearl-handled FWG5 with a ported marksman barrel, silencer, and some doodads to make it look beefier.)
Long story short, the Devs haven't given us anything. They've made us MORE appealing as sliceWHORES. We shouldn't settle for dog meat when we were promised Angus Beef.
After watching all the posts go up, initial excitement, incoming reports, then the dissappointment I really got ask my fellow smugglers - didn't we expect this?
I mean, really, are people surprised?
We've seen the game dumb itself down so that the console crowd can get into it so the loss of tools isn't a shock or surprise, the fact that the process is simplier than the inconcept document - well yeah the inconcept may have confused some people, and confusion brings less players willing to pay money.
Now with the Matrix Online coming to SOE (oh how they must be shaking) I'll bet SWG loses talent to it which will further delay updates and revamps.
Not trying to bum people out, but we have a product not living up to it's potential and you can scream at the top of your lungs at it, myself, I'm numb to it, I find the enjoyment in the game where I can and go with it. BUT I digress - the original intent of the message was - why are people shocked over what's happened?
Cheers
