Thread: pricing for slices

You're taking the prices on your server and acting like it's the same everywhere. It's not. Arguably the two best weaponsmiths on Naritus are Dy-Nod and Troll, and both of them have top of the line guns at under 10k. There are also WAY too many smugglers charging 2-3k per slice for me to ever pay more. Slicing just isn't that important to me as a Master Pistoleer if I get a speed slice I just wasted it, so 10k for a something that has a chance to be totally useless to me is insane.

One star me all you want, but if you come to Naritus and tell people 10k per slice you're going to get laughed at.

it really depends on your server...most of the smuggler that I've seen on Tarq are still doing % based...

I do 200 per % and am happy with what I get but others may not be...

just look around at others on your server and slice for the price that will give you the business you want...that's the best advice.

10k slice on a weapon that cost 5k? *confused*

Last I checked smugglers couldn't make a 1000 run schematic for their slices and then slap em on a vendor fresh out of the factory for someone else to buy and apply to their items later. So they have to use their 'time' to perform slices. It's like doc and entertainer buffs. You are paying for a time, skill point, and desirability investment not a resource investment. (slices last longer than 2-3 hours too)

Each smuggler will choose their own prices but don't balk things you don't understand.

It takes me 15 seconds at most to slice something.

Wow someone needs a lesson in economics: How is it not resource depndant? You think buff packs are handed out when you make Master Doctor? They have to be made, and if you want to make good ones they take quality resources. Quality resorces cost quality money, and quality organics, being harder to harvest, cost more than quality inorganics. This cost has to be made up in the cost of the buff. Smugglers take inorganics that can be harvested with machines and quality does not matter, the significatly lowers the cost of the tools used. By your reasoning a Volkswagon Rabbit should cost the same as a Corvette because it takes the salesman the same amount of time to sell both cars.

Slicing is a service, not a product.

Yes, he missed my point and so did Ackis. So I'll work on my economics when someone else works on their comprehension.

This discussion is not about what a slice should cost but a difference in opinion in how people play their smuggler differently.

Economicsand playing style are stillthe primary factors to determine what a smuggler will charge. Answer some questions;

Are you slicing to provide a service? ( like a dancer, a real one not afk)

Are you slicing as a primary source for income? (like a Buffer Doc)

How much time do you want to spend spam slicing in the SP? (merchant spammer)

Are you a social slicer and like to roleplay the gamble?

Would you be happy slicing by the backpack for a MAS/MWS? (Master Baiter)

Are you enough of a roleplayer to refuse to slice for the other team? Or a guild only slicer?

Believe me, not slicing is easy, just pull you tag or put up a rediculous price. As someone earlier said "charge whatever it takes to get you to stop doing what you were doing".

It is also easy to make decent money in a very social climate. Spam, and price competatively, show regret for low slices( but still charge for it) and cheer when they get a great one. You will be popular and get a reputation as a reliable slicer.

Anyway, just my 2cr.

Your point seemed to be comparing the amount of work that a smuggler has to do with that a weaponsmith has to do. A weaponsmith has to go out, gather very specific materials, run many schematics, blah, blah, blah. A smuggler has to get grind quality, generic resources, and then spend 15 seconds slicing a weapon/piece of armour/etc... it's comparing apples and oranges. A weaponsmith puts in a lot more work than a smuggler.

Now I don't know what a fair price for slicing is. 10k would be good if you could pick the type you get. Take doctors buffs for example, prices on my server went up from 6k to 10k on average when the strength of a buff was "standardized" so to speak.

As a consumer, if a smuggler asked me for 10k for a single slice, I would say no thanks and wait for the smuggler who will charge me 2k or 3k.

Another way to look at is is what is also happening with docs. You'll start seeing a single 'guild smuggler' which will be an alt character and just do slicing for the guild.

yes I once charged a guy 10k for his sliced cdef rifle. He came to me. Doc don't pay anywhere near what they charge who complians to them. 14k for 2200 buffs in theed lol. at least my slice lasts longer than 3 hours. Wouldnt it be great if it didn't hehe. Power ups should also be a smuggler item.
