Considering that we've known for a while we're just going to be one of multiple professions getting a revamp after the CURB, the fact they titled it the "Smuggler revamp/non-combat profession upgrades" actually raises my hopes a little. I'm concerned we're not going to get the dev attention we need (though really, all we need is a few barrels of coffee and three or four weeks in a small room with GreenMarine), but if we're special enough to get our own mention in the profession revamps, it gives me the notion they might be considering taking us seriously for once.
That's my hope too. Ah well, time will tell.

Underworld Adding to the underworld is not part of our near term plans, and probably is a candidate for a future expansion given its scope. Sorry!
Just to clear this up (again, since we discussed this a month or two ago when Tyrant originally posted this).
This statement does not denote the Underworld skill tree in Smuggler. Rather, it denotes the overall feel of the Star Wars underworld.I would hope that the expansion would entail such content as being able to join underworld factions (Nym, Hutt, Nyax, Black Sun, etc.), and possibly new professions (along the lines of Caylin's proposed Crime Lord).
So, don't confuse "Underworld" to mean the Underworld skillset.

Heh, it's interesting how semantics seems to be ever present for Smugglers; if it's not Smuggler/smuggler it's Underworld/underworld

This is why in the past, I've been pretty in favor of the concept of there being an Underworld expansion, since it has the potential to add all new kinds of missions and planet content and items in it. Certainly the Underworld tree would make major use of it, but there's things the Underworld can do now. But... think of how much awesome stuff they could add for Smugglers, but really everyone if they did it as an expansion?
That would be awesome.

Yeah...and somehow, we seem to be the only profession that has to deal with this. You'd think the devs would have a little more consideration, and choose their wording a little more carefully...*shrug*.
It would be nice if they'd show some guts and actually show up in here after they make a statment like that and clear it up before the misconceptions get out of hand.
And...thanks for reminding me Wes...I think I'll bump my Smuggling-vs-smuggling thread now, since you reminded me of that thorn in our sides.
It's funny because I assume that to have smuggling, it would have to go in the Underworld Tree, and to have smuggling, the Underworld as it exists in the game would have to be radically altered. Seems to be the revamp has stalled at the starting line before the gun even went off.

Soooooo let me get this straight. We've got 4 tress in our profession. We know DF is being addressed in the CU. We've heard spices are being addressed in the CU. We assume slicing is being addressed in the CU, but Underworld is it's own expansion? that what? we'll have to shell out 30 more bucks for? So what are they going to do for the smuggler revamp, hang a big banner in Theed that says, "Smuggler Revamp YAY!" on it, and shove a bunch more nonsensical schematics into our datapad?

I'll say it again...the underworld that the mailer is referring to as an expansion is NOT the Underworld skill tree.

OOps, my bad then - sorry for mudding the waters by including that - I should've checked to see if it was "U" or "u"
I do wish SOE would choose their words/phrases better - but now I'm treading on a topic talked in circles to death here so I'll very casually saunter back away from it!
Personally - although I initially said it tongue in cheek - I'm hopefull this time around because they did make a point of saying Smuggler revamp.
Cheers
Dat
But since Underworld is for me one the the MAIN aspect of smuggling..... let's see what the future will give us....
"We changed the underworld branch in the smuggler tree. Now, it's called CantinaControl. At each level, you gain ability to pay less to have a drink in NPC cantinas. At level 2 and 4, you will be able to craft altered money-games that will almost always make you win (altered jubilee wheel, altered card set, altered dice)"
2 days later
"Since altered games were giving much more money to smugglers (some reports showed that someone managed to gain 10k in one hour), we reduced odds to wins when using altered moneygame machines. It should be less easy to earn money now when using it"
3 months later
"We changed the way CantinaControl works. Now, Smugglers cannot craft furnitures anymore since architects didn't want it that way. Smugglers will now gain abilities to slice existing games like card sets and dice. And since chefs asks for it, you won't pay less for your drinks."
1 year later
"New certification for smugglers : the sweep. Now, the can clean cantinas much more faster than previously, helping them gain XP much more faster. Added to this, Smugglers will now be able to sell collected dust to jawas"
3 months later
"Jawas doesn't need anymore dust since tatooine is full of it. Smuggler cannot sell dust anymore. But they have a new certification : the cup of tea..."
3 other months later
"Spices are bad and definitly removed from game. Slice is now illegal in all galaxy and so all slicing process is now removed from game. Smuggler is now called "Looser".... Will you become a master Looser?
Branch 1 : CantinaControl : no change
Branch 2 : Loosing money (each level helps you loose more money)
Branch 3 : Dirty Fighting : Each level help you be more effective when cleaning cantinas
Branch 4 : No Life : Each hour spent doing nothing in cantinas make you earn XP. At each lvl, you have even less things to do in cantinas
Master Looser : No one can count on you. You can do nothing and you do it well...
Prerequistes for Looser profession : unarmed 4 and Image designer"
