Thread: Wanted Levels
The like, balance based factional system is okay for things like nightsisters, but if you murder and rob an npc in the middle of Cnet, there should be more to it than, Corsec doesn't like you as much.
I'd love to be on the lam at all times. Maybe for a crime I could deny committing. It'd be cool if the crime were on record, so when the cops came after you, they'd say something specific about what you did. Like you killed Ooooladh Runningwaverflyer, you're under arrest! Or, you're under arrest for commmitting piracy in Naboo space.
I proposed a jailing system at some point, and I still would love to see that in place at some point...
Also, I think you should be able to rob npcs and npc ships without killing/destroying them. Like, be able to incapacitate and loot an npc, or disable and plunder a ship. So you could be known as a petty thief, rather than a coldblooded killer, and so on and so forth. It's something that doesn't get explored enough in games. "heroes" kill far too many people lol.
Oh! and while you're scanning the ship, they could have called for help, and the security forces, or another pirate ship, could show up.
And with npcs, why the crap don't some of them run screaming when you hit them? they all fight you to the death...

your right.. it may actually not be that hard if they did put it in
but it would be awesome.. I mean wow.. smugglers actually smuggling..
When you go up a wanted level, you will be considered "dangerous" by that local authority. This will result in a penalty for 1 hour that will prevent you from using any starship terminal and travel terminal within a starport owned by that authority, as well as not being able to travel, land or shuttle to another starport owned by that authority. However you would still be able to use planetary shuttles.
I dont like having restrictions on the usage of starports. Im aware that I could choose not to kill the local authority, and then not risk getting that penalty.. but 1 hour is too long.. maybe 5 mins like the TEF would be considered an oke penalty, but defently not 1 Hour..
Other than that I think its a really good idea that would add another level of fun to the game.
SWEETNESS

Bawa the whole point of the penalty is to make a player seek out a smuggler or have to pay a fine to get it removed. If it was just 5 minutes people would sit and wait it out which makes it completly pointless. It needs to be atleast an hour.
If you gained a penalty, all you'd need to do is contact a smuggler and get them to ship you off-world. You'd only be restricted from using shuttles that belong to whatever authority you gained a level for so you would still be able to fly around elsewhere. Ofcourse, it may mean your ship gets impounded at the starport you landed at until the timer's up ... which may prompt you to seek a smuggler to get the penalty removed ![]()

Its a good idea and as a Master Smuggler I would love to see more "smuggler content" and I would love to have other jobs than just slice and buy FP foreveryone, but on the other side I would hate to see my ship being unavailable for an hour... And im very sure you would end up in a situation where no smugglers are available to free up your ship.
people play at odd hours, or smugglers who dont want to help, and alot of other situations could have a player stranded at some starport not being able to do anything for a hour..
A level 1 char like my crafter char cant fight on land, and would risk alot of deaths if the ship were unavailabe for an hour.
One of the things I like in space, is that you can shoot something, and it wont give you negative standing towards that faction. it wont give you positive either, unless you are imp/rebel and declare.
How about giving the smugglers the option to slice your ship, inorder to hide your true identity, so people with a "Death sentance" could seek out a smuggler and get a chance to go "Covert"?
If you can go "Covert" I would have no problem with getting positive / negative standing from shooting ships in space...
lets say my char Isc have been shooting some CorSec guards in space, and now have -70 CorSec standing, this would give me alot of trouble trying to land at Coronet starport.
I really like to hang out in coronet, so I seek out a smuggler who can slice my Transponder and make it broadcast my ship as a "Civillian Transport"..
I fly up to the space station and they think im here to pickup some civilians and grant me landing permission.
Isc would now have alot of problems on land, because the Coronet guards would con red and instantly Kill me, and becuase im level 1 I would be one shot killed before I even see what shot me.
To get around that, I would also need to see a Smuggler to make me a "Fake ID card" that would make me go "covert" granting me a way to travel around in Coronet.
Kinda like going on leave, but its the smugglers who make the "Fake ID card".
The guards on land will then start doing random player searches, and you would risk getting identified.
IF they spot a player with a "death sentance" during one of these searches, they will attack and you risk ending up at the Cloner unless you survive the attack, but since you already have the "Fake ID card" you will still be "on leave" and will be able to travel around untill the next player search occurs.
This would enable people to move around, but you would still be in risk of getting into trouble if you goto a city controled by an authority you have negative stading with.
And you would give smugglers another role in the galaxy aswell.
This isn't about factions and having a death sentence wouldnt make all NPCs from that authority a red con to you .. the point here is to give penalties for being a wanted criminal and to allow smugglers to temporarily relieve any of those penalties.
If you don't want your ship being stuck in a starport for an hour then don't do criminal activities ... its as simple as that.
This is supposed to be a "role play" game and not a "kill everything in sight" game. Being such a game means destroying civilian transports in cold blooded murder within the Corellian system or murding an innocent bystander in Theed should give some kind of penance and just giving a reduction in faction to make NPCs aggro you isn't enough.
If there arnt any smugglers around then you'd either have to bribe an authority or seek out the local crime lord and do missions for him to reduce your level. As for "If people can pay why would they seek out a smuggler?" ... well, what would you rather do? Pay 100k to remove a penalty or get a smuggler to do it for free?
Oh right. Anyways, I'm cool with almost all of it, but I am a little hesitant about having my ship stuck somewhere as well. I might be a bit more open to the idea if there were a way for us to somehow get it out, say bribes, slicing a terminal, etc. Then perhaps you would be forced to launch, you couldn't simply 'travel' to another location, but say upon launch into the system, you are chased/attacked by a pretty powerful (powerful meaning you have a somewhat slim chance at getting out of the system w/o being either killed or captured before you can make the jump to lightspeed.) spawned planetary authority. Might add a bit more of an interesting element to the evasion.
So say if your wanted for questioning at level 26 on theed. You hang around Lok for say a day for it to dwindle down 1 point per day. So the next day they already forgot about you and have more important things to do?
