No, I understand. Was a bit crabby / snippy when I read this and replied. Wife and I got into it. Regardless I still believe teh EU stuff is a great well to draw from and think its better for use in the game because its NOT as defined as the stuff from the movies. I'm not saying I don't want the movie canon melded with SWG, but to want to discount it completely would be a huge mistake.

No more surprises. No more chances for some guy (not Lucas) to add in how he think it happend. Start to finish, Ep1-6, this is how it happend. So is this the end of EU? God I hope so. There is more EU content than movie content in this game.
Next question. Is EU bad? Not intentionally. Some of it is pretty ok. But, It takes away from the mistique.
Last Question. Is EU bad for SWG. YES. YES. YES! Very bad. Why? Because it distracts and takes away. Apperently evey charicter ever metioned in star wars was a big deal. Take biggs for example. He was lukes friend. And now his family is a quest. Why? Chewbaca was a bigger charicter than Biggs. But chewy doesn't even speak (and he's 5'8" in the game). All I wanted was a game where I could if only for a little while escaped to a galaxy far, far, away with a big evil interdicting empire, 8 or 9 planets with at least one city that has with a star wars feel and rebelion despretly trying exist. But instead I got two factions where the supposed weak side kicks the crap out of the strong side, 11 planets where 10 are large ghost towns with empty cities and loads of stuff i never heard of. So why is EU the problem? Because this isn't SWG. It's SWEUG. I don't care about bigg's family and there back story. He was in one frickin movie. But they spent tons of time makin his quest and fixing his quest instead of building a game true to the movies. The game is trying to encompase too much and it's killing SWG. ROTW was a step in the right direction but more needs to be done. NO MORE EU until the GSW is set right and jedi balance is achived.
/sorry it was eating me up inside.
Smugglers rule, Jedi sit outside the corset starport and duel. Yeah balance!

On the contrary. With the end of the films, I imagine the Extended Universe will gain some steam. There will be a TV series, sure, but there will always be an EU publication of some kind out there.

LucasArts isn't going to stop making Star Wars video games. The tabletop Star Wars roleplaying game isn't going to vanish overnight. I sincerely doubt Dark Horse (or whoever it is these days) is going to be thrilled at the idea of no longer publishing Star Wars comic books, and the novels aren't going to stop, either.

With the new trilogies, new people have been exposed to Star Wars. The interest in the films will never lose steam (just go to DragonCon sometime and watch the 501st Stormtrooper Legion and Rebel Legions march - impressive! Most impressive!). Not even if something equally revolutionary comes to be which, God, I hope so.

In regards to the game.. well, of course SWG has a lot of EU in it. If it adhered strictly to the films with no room, we wouldn't be here. Well, that, and if it adhered strictly to the films, a lot of places would be rather empty, in terms of story, quest, and NPC content.

No Dathomir. No Rori. No Lok. No Talon Karrde, a very empty Emperor's Retreat (I doubt he'd really HAVE a retreat, for that matter).. you get the idea.

A video game like this needs some EU in order to have any respectable amount of content whatsoever, even if that content is mostly flavor and fluff. I want more Star Wars in this game, just like everybody else, but I've always looked at the EU as being a part of it. :>

I listened to some audio books of EU stuff and they were AWFUL

I hear some of it is very good, but I'm kind of put off dipping into it again.

which ones? You should check out the Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn. The Han Solo Trilogy is really good too. (not the adventures of books) I stopped reading them for a long time because they got really convoluted but I recently started reading the New Jedi Order series and thats pretty awesome.

Ugh, it's painful to even try to remember. Three books, one about Exar Kun,another aboutLuke setting up the new Jedi Order and meh, the last one was so bad my brain is refusing to co-operate

EU is Expanded Universe

Meaning all the stuff that happens in the Star Wars universe that does not take place in the movies...

First one is Jedi Academy. Definately not the best or worst of the books. Cant pin the other two, but I would again like to recommend the Thrawn Trilogy. Those books are the best of the best EU. Really the only ones that are on par with the OT.

Agreed.

Right now I am reading the New Jedi Order series where Han goes nuts from Chewbacca's death. It's not a bad read either. The Yuzaan Vong are kinda scarier than the Empire. Thank god they're not gonna get here for another 22 years or so.

haha. its all on the back cover man. nothing more mentionned than is said on there.

good series tho, but the author's writing style isn't for me. its same author that wrote Labyrinth of Evil: Prequel to Episode 3 (it features the battle you come into at the beginning of the movie)

Here's my look on the books versus the movies. If a book directly contradicts at least a portion of one of the movies, consider it to be a "legend" in the Star Wars lore.

I've just started to read the books myself(damned backwater Southern Oklahoma), and I have in my lap, as I write this, my first one. I picked up volume One of the Thrawn trilogy yesterday.

Oh, and about that guy "ruining" the book in which Chewbacca died, CNN did the same to me. I was channel surfing(on the day that novel was first released), and this revelation was apparently so big that it made air time on CNN(when CNN was the big guy, instead of FOX News) and the reporters actually talked about it for a couple moments. Another reason for me to hate CNN. Damned spoilers.
