Thread: How the crackdown should work.

It's not looking for ways to take things away from Smugglers. I wanna smuggle as much as the next scoundrel, but to be perfectly realistic about it (and trust me, I thought the Imps shouldn't get away with murder until I lost this argument with a Marine...) if you're an Imperial grunt soldier, running scans in Theed, and you come across an Imperial General, you're NOT going to stop an scan him, you're gonna salute and carry on.
"Excuse me Lord Vader, I need to check your backpack for Muon, sir."
The problem here is that rank is currently meaningless, and everyone just buys the highest rank possible. If ranks came with some kind of a responsibility, duties and missions you have to do to be able to keep them, it would be perfectly ok that a Colonel says "Scan me? Do you know who I am, grunt?!" to a lowly Stormtrooper. I certainly hope that a proper rank revamp will be part of the upcoming GCW changes.

True - the system should somehow emulate a sort of an Imperial 'internal affairs' department, you can get away a few times, but then rumours about you start spreading, and you get a higher-ranking officer to investigate or something like that.

Doesn't the Security Bureau have some kind of special uniforms that aren't in-game? I can't really member how they look like, hmm. Anyway, the introduction of the ISB to the contraband system for the Imperials would be very interesting, and is probably part of the way it should be handled.
SpinningCloud wrote:Having scans in cities but not in critical areas will mean exactly NOTHING for smugglers. So what IS the point?Honestly, do you really think anyone is going to hire us to tag around with them for hours on end? And would you REALLY do it?
Exactly. That's why scans should be done as part of the travel system. You get scanned when you try to leave the planet. Got contraband? Can't travel. That simple.
Need to travel? Stash it in a small safety deposit box in the starport (would need to be implemented.)
Need your stuff with you? Hire a smuggler to move it for you.
I also think it's worth pointing out that since they're removing TEFs from the game and making it so if you're a Rebel and not "on leave" stormtroopers will shoot on sight, instituting some kind of more advanced "customs" system is going to be the only way that many of us are going to have to worry about that kind of thing since we're going to be getting shot at by the scan squads anyway.

I disagree with all of your solutions, but your problems are right. You wanna get rid of the loopholes? Then get rid of them. Droids only get a pass on scans if they've been modified by a smuggler. Imperials get heavy fines unless they outrank the officer scanning them (and send out a wider variety of Imperials, sheesh-it wouldn't hurt to see a good sized bust or sting by a high muckety muck moff with a full squad at his heels). Confiscation will never be accepted by the playerbase. Death and money are good but the money needs to be upped or percentage based. More stormtroopers are good, but it won't solve anything because the problems still remain. And player bounties need to be more prevalent. I think getting put on the bounty hunter boards will deter a lot of people. Heck, if you DON'T like PvP then perhaps you can opt for a PvE bounty hunter. Who cares. The point is the same. But that's just me.
Good thread and post ana, I will have to go with JTG on this one over all though. The Empire are the bad guys a simple fact and higher ranking officers would control in part by fear so I can see how they would not be subject to the same rules.

The Empire are the bad guys depending on your point of view. ![]()
Although they would not necessarily be subject to the same rules, even the highest ranking Imperials were subject to punishment. Weapons may be one thing, but spice may be another. Basicly I'm agreeing with you but also saying that there does need to be a line for the Imps and that a Colonel does not exactly mean free of restrictions.

Also a good point but I can't seem to get away from (and I'm all about us being needed) the fact that Vader just killed off anyone who fell out of favor with him. Logically other high ranking officers would learn by example, no?

Nope. Yer the bad guys. Sorry. You may not KNOW you're the bad guys, but that don't make ya good.![]()

I do not like the confiscation idea. Losing a 5 million credit weapon is MORE than harsh bro. 5... million... credits..... To me, this is like marrying a wife, but only on the condition that she kicks you in the junk every morning.

On a side note there are guys that pay good money for that....Strange twistedguys but still..
