Thread: Lightsaber Slicing

What is the consensus on slicing lightsabers? Is this an exploit? I am a jedi and I would obviously love a huge increase in my damage output, but I'd rather not do it if it's against the rules and would end up getting me in trouble.

I asked a few smugglers but they weren't sure, so I thought I'd get this board's opinion before proceeding.

Thanks!

You cannot trade a lightsaber to someone without putting it on a vendor to be sold or on the bazaar. If you can't just trade a lightsaber to someone, then the game rules aren't allowing it. If you do it another way, you're going around that, and thus it is an exploit.

Not necessarily so... the devs may have wanted lightsabers to be HARDER to trade / sell but not impossible. Allowing something to be placed on the vendors is something most wouldn't overlook, so I'd actually have to disagree with you here. Until they say one way or another on the subject, I'd say go for it.

If you are BREAKING game mechanics then its an exploit. Like shooting through walls.

But if you are allowed to place a Lightsabre on a vendor and sell it, then its fine. If you are exploiting some kind of bug in the UI to put it on a vendor or trade with someone then that is a different story.

I'd say, put your sabre on a smugglers vendor, have him slice it and put it back on his vendor.

Actually the devs were pretty serious about non-jedis not having lightsabers. The bazaar/vendor thing sounds like an oversight/exploit. If I were you, I wouldn't risk it.

Way I see it, if any lightsabers were floating around. They'd get snapped up and traded through the underworld. And who are the kings of th underworld? Th smugglers, Lightsabers are exactly the kindof thing thye'd be looking for. Even if jus a chance to get hold of it to tinker with it n make it that lil bit better.

Way I see it, Smugglers are destined to get their grubby hands on lightsabers. But hey, maybe you Jedi guy's should take out the batteries or something before you pass 'em on over, eh?

Update : A respected master smuggler from my server talked to a CSR about this. The CSR indicated it is an exploit to have a lightsaber sliced. CSR's are not always on the ball with these things, so I'm going to check with Taurin before proceeding.

Thanks for the info, everybody.

The server CSR for Eclipse commented that at the time, this was legal to do. the vendor bug for slicing sabers has since been sliced, though there is another way...and again, I asked, and it is legal

So now we have one person who says a CSR told him it's legal to slice a lightsaber, and we have another person who says a CSR told him it's not legal to slice a lightsaber.

If you're a smuggler, and someone wants you to slice their lightsaber, are you going to take the chance that it is an exploit and risk getting banned from the game?

I had a dev explain the defenition of an exploit to me ina CST when I was asking if dancers and musicians were using an exploit when doing the rapid buff. Exploits are taking advantage of a bug in the code to give yourself an edge. Using a route in the game that allowes a jedi to put a sabre into a non-jedi's hands is only an exploit if you take advantage of a bug. Like, if a jedi wasn't able to drop a backpack in his (donated) house if it has a sabre in it, but he WAS able to drop it if he put it in a sachel first, and THEN in the bag, that would be a bug. This is hypothetical as i am not a jedi.

even though i would love to slice a lightsaber, im the firm believer that if we have to discuss and question it being an exploit , it undoubtly is.

besides if they wont trade then there you go, what other proof do you need?

just my 2 cents of course.

you shouldnt be able to do this....they are not supposed to be sliced , but I guess some will try anything to exploit

Yeah Lightsabers are no drop now. They can only be in the bank and in top level inventory. Much like special editions glasses
