It's not your fault dude...it's shameful how this all went down. I too am ashamed. Usually I'm proud...but today...<sigh> Oh well. Everyone has off days.

It's more, hey guys, here's a dev who's with you, but hasn't been complaining to us so shut up

Not that I'm angry with goliath or anything, not at all. I don't blame him for anything, he's an artist, not a systems guy. But it does seem as though the systems guys are using him as a sort of subtle attempt at pacification.

all i did was come and say hi... no one had any intention. lol sheesh. just came to say hi, the only person who knew anything about it was tiggs.

probably the last time i use my dev name. yikes.

any name mate, dude, we need some love since so long, it's hard to give someone you never get... be welcome

Yea I have to apologize for sure. Kind of got caught up in the whole thing.

I think it's kind of hard for the cynic in a person to meet an optimist and believe he's sincere. Especially in a place where everyone bolsters each others' cynicism, and forms a strong community around the cynicism, as a defense mechanism for what they see as inevitable dissappointment and/or treachery. When a situation arises that is neither dissappointing nor treacherous, everyone begins to look for the moth-holes in the angora, and if the situation is bad enough, sees holes that aren't there. They might not even see the angora, just a very full moth. A strange analogy to be sure, but I think it fits.

Anyway, welcome to the forums, sorry if anything I said offended you, I hope the others that reacted with suspicions and or derisions will reach the same conclusion.

Conversely, has anyone else noticed that even the ones who were immediately gushingly friendly also treated him as if he'd never been to the smuggler boards before?

My intent in starting this thread was not to harass or put down Goliath/Ezkiel, if that is the way it sounded then you have my apologies.

It was meant simply to point out something which I had noticed and to get any feedback, not some form of conspiracy theory.

However, I am sure most of you, including Ezkiel, can appreciate why I am so cynical when dealing with any of the red named ones.

I don't see him as a red-named one. He is a Smuggler, that happens to have a red name.

Same way I see him. I don't have anything against the guy, its the people who make the decisions that effect the professions that are getting on my nerves.

I appreciate that now and will treat him as such from now on.

But initially it simply appeared to be a post from a Dev stating he was a Smuggler too, much the same as what GM first posted, and I didread the thread before I started this thread. Perhaps posting in here in red was not the bestas most who see a red named post instantly swoop, either looking for information or an easy kill.

We [the Smuggler Community] are supposed to be better than most other communities. We have prided ourselves on it ... it has not shown with the recent history, and I hope some of the newer Smugglers understand how much these reactions to a fellow Smuggler have hurt us as a whole.
We have been more understanding, more passionate, and more dedicated than most other professions ... and it feels like we just went dumpster-diving.

I believe a lot of the recent attitude in here, the negativity towards eachother, the short fuses and tempers, really is a symptom of having lost many of our "best and brightest" in recent months. We've taken a few more casualties of our community leaders, most recently the absense of Caylin and Wayne. I think even just two weeks ago, the greeting of Goliath would have been much more Smuggler-esque. I haven't posted much lately, but I see quite a few unfamiliar names posting, many with a more negative energy than I've seen in this forum before. That's not to lay all the blame on newer posters. Many vets have also become more disenchanted (if that's possible) and the whole vibe is starting to infect the community.

I too see him a smuggler who happens to have a red name

but I also see other kind of "tactic" to make our mouths shut for another couple of months.

damn is it that hard: FIX THE MASTER BOX at least, so all 0400 "smugglers" will either go master and do their job, either surrend and let us do our job.

Nothing is a "quick" fix. Any change at all needs to be researched, analyzed, coded and tested. If you don't, then you come up with crap bugs like we have seen in the past. Just throwing a programmer on change because players are screaming is stupid and I am glad that they have stopped doing this. The CU is the number one priority right now and this is where the focus is. Sure there are issues with our profession, I know, I've been here since day 1 (and before). What was once a very proud profession forum has turned into a whine and crap throwing fest that I have to say I am ashamed of. Busting on "G" just cause he posted in a red name is just Bad Form, and we are (or should be) above that. I don't post often as anyone can see, but I have been here since the begining and this is about the worst I have seen this Smuggler Community. Give it a rest guys. Be productive, and stop taking every move as some conspiricy from SOE. It's not a bone, it's just a fellow Smuggler who got a cool job doing artwork for SWG. Wouldn't you want to come visit if it happened to you?

Just to unlurk again a sec to give my opinion.

I guess im in two minds about this... It's great to know Goliath is part of the dev team and one of us, and PROUD to be one of us, and i'd hope he could stay and be involved in some of our discussions.

HOWEVER

The whole introduction wasn't the best. If all that had happened was that Geevo invited him in to come post, and he'd come in on his own steam and participated in a few threads, I think the reception would have been a hell of a lot better, than Tiggs posting first, proclaiming a "treat".

All that did was stir up a lot of the over cynical, and easily angered, especially when they realised it wasnt what they expected. Giving him somekind of fanfare when he entered made people expect too much, when he is, simply put, just one of us, albeit with a red name

Entering a room to the sound of a brass band and fireworks isn't very smuggleresque. Unless you are Jabba.
