Thread: Power-up Slicing BUG? or Working As Intended? SOE PLEASE RESPOND

Since the other thread on this forumregarding this was deleted (I found this out when I wen to submite my reply(Doh!), I'll respond here.

Caylin and the others. Thank you for clearing up the power-up slice issue. It was not my intention (and I'll presume to speak for Hattix here) to be antagonistic in any way in bringing up this issue. Seeing the reaction, I will not EVER do this, as it owuld not be conduicive to a good community. The fact that it is an exploit is still dubious in my eyes, but that is another matter. I just wanted to make it clear that as a NEW player to the game (3 weeks) and new to the forums (3 days) I do not have the benefit of history in gaging my actions. But pleasedon't make the mistake that just becase I have an 11 post count that I am a nOOb or some kind of moron (and I don't think anyone here really did that, for the most part. Although it is an all too commong mistake I've read to many times elsewhere "What do you know, you have23 posts") It is just thatI have no moral framework from which to derive any sort of way to judge my actions (there were no actions in this case because I've never done this. I couldn't even slice weps until a few hours ago =) ). As a new player I feel it is my duty to bring something new to the game. Maybe ask a question that hasn't been asked, challenge people. new blood, as it were. In this instance, this was a question that was already dealt with. But coming from the game, I think people here forget that not everyone that plays the game comes to the forums. I guess it seems a bit wierd to me to have to come to the forums to figure out if something semmingly built into the game (again, as a new player) is, in fact, an exploit of some kind. There is very little to no difference for someone without a history. I am a smuggler/pistoleer unfortuantely two very broken classes, so my whole perspective was skewed. I figured "Well if this works it must be here on purpose, because there is plenty that does work here. " But as I said, I'v enever done this and I won't. So thank you Caylin and others for taking the time to catch us new people up on the history.

The real problem here is not that people could use this exploit, it is that there are no clearly definable ways (without coming ot the forums and asking, that is) to determine what one shouldn't do. Most people would not do this if they knew it was not intended by the devs, I only ask that us new people receive some patience when it comes to these questions. For the most part I feel that we got it and everyone was patient with us, again comfirming mygrowing theory that the smuggler boardshave the most clever and enlightened people in the game. I mean, we all chose smuggler for a reason right?=) Broken as it is, I love it and am having a grea titme. So thank you, those who had history, for answering this. Just please expect these types of questions from me and others from time to time as we get our barings. This is how communites stay fresh.

Wow! Hot topic. Someone is systematically going around and deleting all the threads pertaining to this subject.

Well, not exactly the response I was hoping for, but I hope it became abundantly clear through that experience that powerup slicing is considered an exploit and is not to be done.

I haven't been a master smuggler for about 4 months, but I seem to remember that when slicing weapons with pups, the pup stayed instead of being stripped off, like in the good old days. Is that still the case?

Just curious...

Actually no, it has not made anything abudantly clear. On the contrary is has exacerbated the situation.I have yet to understand why someone from SOE cannotclarify this. Why were these threads deleted with no explanation? Yes, the discussions were a bit heated, and possibly some players have taken offense that me and others refuse to accept thier beliefs as concrete evidence of proof of the rules. OBVIOUSLY someone is reading these. Answer the question.

Is using powerups in the slicing of weapons an exploit? Its EASY! yes or no. Surely someone in SOE knows the rules of the game.

As of this writing I have but one Official SOE response to my query..."These rifles were sliced with what some players are calling a "powerup slicing" exploit.

SOE Representative...."I have inspected your rifles, and they are legal."

We've had issues going on just as long as this that have never received a response. Actually there are some that have been around longer than this.

We have yet to get a yes or no onthem as well. Don't expect one here. Don't take a CSR's word in about 80% of all situations. We've had plenty of problems with them.

The threads were not deleted for the debate, they were removed for explaining an exploit.

SOE rarely comments on anything and almost never admits to exploits. The fact that threads are being deleted is as good of proof as we could ever expect (or will likely get).

I agree that it would be very easy to say yes or no but that is obviously against their policy regarding the issue...

Besides, the Smuggler Correspondent has stated that he was told it was not intended (maybe in different words). I see no reason for Smuggler_Caylin to be dishonest about it. You should believe it as well...

When slicing normally a power up is removed, thereby implying its not supposed to be there during the slice. Therefore if a weapon is sliced in some way with a power up on, it can logically be deemed an exploit. There ya go, is that simple enough for you?

With regard to your rifles; if they were sliced with a power up applied they are not "legal" in the game, and that's that.

The thread on the Bria Trade Forum, while getting a tad off topic in no way had any sort of explanation of how to do this type of slicing.

As far as CSR's being unreliable sources, 80% of the time. They are the Game Masters of SWG as assigned by the company that makes the game. Whether you agree with their rulings 20% of the time or none of the time, it does not make their decisions any less "Official."

Still waiting for an answer SOE. Comeon, you can do it.

Assuming the threads were deleted proves anything is in fact, ludicrous. I have opinions and assumptions of why they were deleted also, but those assumptions and opinions PROVE nothing.

There have been no allegationsthat Caylin is being dishonest. Your attempts to turn a simple fact finding search into a personal attack will have to be used on someone else. As I have stated in this thread, I have conflicting information on this matter and am simply looking for a ruling from SOE, not your opinion on what you think it is, not your assumptions on what you think it should be, and certainly not any of your accusations.

Again, these are merely your opinions on the matter. And while they most assuredly are just as important as any other opinion or assumption, they in fact dictate no stated rules of the game and are simply your thoughts and interpretations of what is NOT being said by SOE.

What in fact has been stated by SOE is that my rifles are in fact, legal. Thereby making your second comment completely false.

You have only been told that your rifles are legal, not that this 'trick' to slicing is not an exploit. Maybe the smuggler who intended to use this exploit while slicing your weapon didn't know how to do the exploit correctly, or somehow messed it up?

In this case your weapons would be legal and you can keep on using them. Your CSR said nothing about whether the method supposedly used to slice them was an exploit and you have no way of knowing if the exploit was even carried out successfully by the smuggler who intended to do it.

The best thing you could do is report the smuggler you took the weapons to as suspected of trying to use an exploit and stop worrying about it.

First comment: I had a 173-400 T21 sliced to a 233-560. This was definitly done using powerups in the slice.

Second comment: I have repeatedly stated that I told the CSR the rifles were sliced with a technique players called something like "Powerup Slice" Exploit.

Third comment: SOE has in no way informed me that what was done is an exploit. They have in fact told me the rifles are completely legal, AFTER they were informed of the slicing technique. At this time, there is nother to report about the smuggler.

Thank you for taking the time to try and help
