Shadowmant,

I guess the devils in the details. Right now there are no consequences and no smuggling. And we want there to be some sort of consequences and smuggling because the two go hand in hand .

I'd think I'd be safe to say that the smuggling community does not want some safe little self contained smuggler game that has no effect or little effect on the community. We want to matter to the community and be a bit more than slice monkeys.

Yet again we know that the community as a whole has come to see sliced equipment and spices as NESSECARY and good thing and like all children don't want to give up their toys. So we throw around ideas , some of which if implimented would be draconion. Where it's all going to come down no one knows.

But as valid as St Gabriels points is ( try and get smuggling in a way the player base would accept ), some of us here resent the underlying thought that "the games as it is now is fine, take what ever bone the devs throw you, and stop inconviencing us with this pesky scans. Oh and slice this composite for me , monkey boy".

Not going back in the box, sorry Gabe.

I'm going to just...sit over here in this corner. Counting to ten...thousand. Hopefully it will be enough.

Why?

As you left it, that's a big cop-out.

Let's have some jusification and communication as to why you refuse to respond to this sort of thread.

And let's hear why you would envy the non-correspondents.

Speaking as a former correspondent...I believe Caylin is trying to be diplomatic (which a correspondent should be), and what he really wants to say wouldn't be so diplomatic.

Yep, as a Correspondent, he can't say what he really feels, but wants to, that's why he envies the non-correspondents.We can say whatever we want.

Personally, if Gabe doesn't get Solo's last post, I can't imagine him getting anything. Duh.

Smugglers are bringing product to the customer outside the bounds of what is sanctioned by law. Yes, you may define that as "transporting good" and say that actually crafting the spice is not the same as bringing it from one place to another. However, I find the distinction academic. The point is the Smugglers are the source for illegal spices, weapons and armor, it's just that in the game instead of bringing them from an "Illegal Weaponsmith" to the customer we provide modifications to the pre-existing normal weapons and armor. Likewise instead of bringing Spice from a member of the "Spice Mining Slavemaster" profession to the customer, we just make the spice ourselves. I don't see any problem with this. The problem is that what we're doing doesn't seem very illegal in the game world at the moment.

Point is, we provide the illegal stuff to the consumer. That's Smuggling. A truck driver transports goods. It's when what he's doing is illegal that the truck driver becomes a Smuggler.

The problem is twofold. You're right that what we do doesn't seem very illegal right now. That's a big problem.

The other problem, however, is that the distinction between selling illegal stuff and transporting illegal stuff is NOT academic.

Go pull your average criminal code off the shelves of your local law library. There's a pretty clear distinction between smuggling and selling. Smuggling is a very specific, precise offense.

It's moving illegal goods past a checkpoint. That's it. No more, no less. Often the selling happens afterwards, but the SMUGGLING portion is JUST the transportation. If we're to be smugglers and not just generic criminal types, THAT is what we have to be doing.

I think the solution is to provide consequences for the smuggler. If us slicing your weapons and armor, or providing you with spices, is going to get us in trouble then we are going to be able to charge more for it. I said this in another thread, but if there is a system in place (I suggest bounties on Smugglers) to make it risky for Smugglers to do their jobs instead of it just being another crafting profession, then that justifies the rarity and the rewards, and it'll shut up all the people that think it's unfair that they should depend on us. If we're actually doing a dangerous job, the prices will rise and the illegality of it all will make sense.

And that allows us to smuggle how? This isn't about coming up with reasons for jacking up our prices. It's about wanting the ability to do some real smuggling.

The devs need to watch star wars again. Luke was a whiny baby with the hots for his own sister. Solo was the rockin smuggler with the blaster, the chick, (a personality) and a wookie.

I hate to say it but he is right, we should not be needed in that way nor should we have to depend on other people, just hook us up with mission terminal's and let us smuggle for hutt's (or who ever) it's very simple.

You can't be serious can you? You would actually go for a minigame over smuggling for people?

  1. Smugglers are a significant part of star wars. To push them off into their own little corner away from making an impact on the cummunity while possibly good for not upsetting people, just doesn't jive with Star Wars.

  2. Look at bounty hunters. They have their bounty hunting minigame. It's how they get their investigation xp. Ask any Master Bounty Hunter how much they enjoyed that. You might want to have your profanity filter turned on though.

No, Smuggler Mission Terminalsare NOT an acceptable compromise. A useless mini-game will kill the smuggler profession. Have you read some of the great ideas that have been discussed here on the smuggler forums? We don't need a Band Aid, we need a dynamic overhaul.

You said smuggler terms would kill the porf?? how do you figure, right now we dont smuggle anything so our prof is alreadydead... There are alot of great idea's on this board and i have read them all, not every great ideahas gone well liveand the dev's understand that better then any of us...
