Thread: Depending On Smugglers
Well if I want to think this way then using my sword is a "bonus".
Maybe I should have to have a weaponsmith in my group to use my sword then? Would that be "fun"?
Should I say, "oh well, having a sword is only a "bonus" for me a swordsman and it doesn't really matter that at master I have to fight chubas without my sword"? Should I say, "oh, it doesn't matter that in PvP I have given my opponents an advantage of x5"?

Slicing is a bonus. Fighting, ergo your "fun", works without it. If only few people would be able to support sliced equipment the average Joe would have no need for it.

At this point I'm starting to wonder if you're just here to troll our boards. Having sliced swords helped me grind up, but you know what also helped? Whenever I grouped with my best friend in game who was a ch. Having one extra person in the group took so much pressure off me, I woudln't have needed sliced gear. Then again, all you care about is soloing everything, so I guess thats lost on you. Heaven forbid, there are some things you need to have groups in this game.

YOU are taking contraband for granted.

I am taking my ability to be basically competitive with other players without having to cart a smuggler around with me every time I make a shuttle hop.
Wow, I'm so terribly selfish. Imagine me wanting to just pay my slicer money.
Starwars is the story of people fighting against annoying regulations. That you can't accept that is the problem.
And I'm not asking for everything on a silver plater, FAR FROM IT.
I am simply asking for constructive ways for me to use the services of a Smuggler. Paying for things they have access to and I do not, trading them things that I earn as a swordsman, wanting them in a group as a bonus and as a useful member in and of themselves and not as a workaround to something that is fundamentally unfun, etc.

In other words SWG should be roughly as fun as being a tax accountant?
Following one version of the story in every detail doesn't work if it leads to a game that is not fun. The DE's already faced limitions in exactly this regard and I am suggesting that you guys may as well.

Should I say "I'm happy with my Smuggler since I can produce contraband, I don't care if it's only labeled that way and noone bothers to scan for it." Should I say "Hey, who cares that there's no reason for me to move contraband for others, I'll just make up my own content". ?
Actually, electricnomad was right. You are taking spices and sliced equipment for granted. For you, and for every other non-Smuggler, the 'illegal'-tag on it is just pro-forma and serves no purpose. For us, it does! This is our content: Illegal Goods. They're there, the only thing left to do is to make them illegal and especially make others feel that they're illegal.
No, you want our services risk free. You don't want RISK with them. And that's the REAL disconnect. Smugglers deal in illegal goods. Slicing is ILLEGAL. Spices are ILLEGAL. For us to really be SMUGGLERS those services have to come with penalties for YOU and US. That's what we're talking about. Even as a tank, your armor should do you just fine without a slicer slicing it. If it doesn't, if you're banking on a slicer making your armor USEFUL, you need better armor. You're sadly mistaken. Armor shouldn't have to be sliced for you to use it. And, I don't believe it IS that way. I believe you're just too functionally fixed on it being so. If I'm wrong, FINE, then change armor. Don't make us a boring profession that ISN'T smuggling. Smuggler's services should be RISKY for you and me BOTH and it should be worth the RISK. Not pre-requisite for playing the game. Nor do I believe it is.
Like I said, if I can take noobs hunting Voritor Dashers on Dantooine, then I can hang with a group of guys who are my equals in all respects except for sliced items. Plain and simple.
This doesn't answer my concern at all. And there are other more constructive ways to implement contraband, I suggest pushing for them.

See my above comments regarding: just because it fits the story doesn't mean that it's fun.
