Thread: Depending On Smugglers
So you consider the tradeoff of slicing being, "either be as powerful as a newbie or be dependent on a smuggler at all times?"

To repeat, let's look at contraband. If I have to deal with contraband every time I make a shuttle up (i.e. 15 times today) that is just going to be a huge timesink that isn't fun by any stretch. However, if smugglers are able to spend the time themselves doing smuggling and thereby provide me with rare and valuable items, I'd be all over that. I would then give them credits and items that I had earned AS A SWORDSMAN for things they did with their time AS A SMUGGLER.
Example, this is a "choice", therefore it is content, therefore it is fun.
Not all content nor choices are fun.
Would you consider random spawn Jedis that DB anyone who comes within 300 meters to be good content?
Would you consider the choice of, "either pay 1 million taxes every time you log on or have all your HAM bars set to 1" to be a fun choice that is good for the game?

Umm, per what you have written here there are no problems. If you are simply providing me with a service that complements my abilities then I am all for it. If I have to spend random time waiting, be randomly fined, etc., to use these options however or I am constantly having to carry a smuggler around with me, then I've got problems with the proposed systems.
No, that's not what I'm saying at all, and that's a crappy comeback.
What I'm saying is, if I can take noobies hunting VORITOR DASHERS on Dantooine, then I can handle hunting with a bunch of high powered types when the only difference between us is a 35% damage slice on the weapon.
Smugglers are (story-wise) all about smuggling therefore any smuggling system implemented will be good for the game.
It's not enough to meet that one desire, it also has to work within the game framework for all players.

You guys are simply taking too many things for granted.
YOU are taking contraband for granted.
But for a tank there is also armor to consider. Sliced armor is by far the best defensive ability in the game right now. Without good armor I am worthless as a tank.

*snicker*
I am taking my ability to be basically competitive with other players without having to cart a smuggler around with me every time I make a shuttle hop.
Wow, I'm so terribly selfish. Imagine me wanting to just pay my slicer money.
StGabe.
False.
Try tanking some of the new Corvette mobs that can hit for 4k and tell me that I don't need sliced armor.
StGabe.
Quite on the contrary. You are taking for granted that everyone has to use sliced equipment every timeone engages in combat. You consider the 300%whatnot bonus of sliced weapons as necessary to have "fun", any tradeoff would totally destroy your gaming experience.
Slicing is a bonus. Fighting, ergo your "fun", works without it. If only few people would be able to support sliced equipment the average Joe would have no need for it.
Any smuggling system without a substantial impact (which would be most likely a negative impact in your eyes, else there would be no need to smuggle) on the playerbase is a wasted system. I'm here to play a Smuggler in SW:G and not some ridiculous mini-game with NPCs.
