Thread: Smuggler delay
This is wholly unacceptable.
The "Smuggler" professionhas been promised a revamp since the end of Beta 3.
Instead of seeing anything added, we have seen things sytematically taken away from us.
The Chef revamp, knocked us out of business for the majority of our spices; You have changed our pistol special abilities to make us less useful, you have delayed our promised revamp to cater to a profession that is supposed to be rare, and even though it's not, it still represents the smaller portion of the overall playerbase.
You say that you want to focus on the combat revamp, but this seems to be a case of the cart before the horse... many professions are not even working as you originally intended, and you decide that instead of fixing them, and trying to make people happy in the interim while you work on JTL, you decide instead to opt to do a complete overhaul of everything else, leaving many professions high and dry.
To add insult to injury, you manage to have the gall to tell us that our lists of desired features/content don't meet your needs... You don't meet our needs. You would have us jump through your hoops, all the while you are running around over there trying to figure out what to 'fix' next.
I'm not going to blather on about how you are going to lose customers because you are not meeting their needs. I know full well that in the long run, for everyone leaving the game right now, you are getting at least that many new subscriptions if not more, and frankly I know you don't care that people are leaving the game, as long as revenue is still good. Can't please all the people all the time right? I'm sure that's what you have been telling yourselves.
Frankly I'm disgusted by this, and as I said it's wholly unnaceptable.
Am I going to leave the game? Nope. Why? Because I have friends here that I really like. Am I going to stay a master smuggler? Yep. Why? Because I enjoy the spirit of what a smuggler is in my mind, and despite all the things I feel are missing, I still enjoy it. I must be nuts.
You people need to get your act together... supply us all with a team of people that we can feel good about. Keep your promises.

Folks,
I totally understand how angry you are right now. I can't tell you how difficult it is for us to have to move your revamp back... but I really do feel that it is the right thing to do for all parties concerned, and for the overall state of the game. The large systems we are revamping really need our full attention. We have been absolutely killing our designers, and they need to have a life. This means not crunching them 7 days a week for months at a time.
We did not want to rush out some crappy revamp for you in order to fulfil our commitment. We also strongly feel that some aspect of smuggling should be done in space, so it makes sense to do it after JTL. I am so sorry, but I think it is better to be straight up with you guys than to mislead you about what we can do, or put out something that we, and you, are not going to be proud of.
We are at the FF right now, so TH and I are going to be fairly unavailable at this time, but we will spend some time with you next week.
Again, my apologies, but we want to make your profession all it can be. We can't do that right now, but we will.
thx,
- Gary
well, since you've been promising this since december, I've always w8ed to surrender smuggler.. just wanted to let you know I just typed 18 times yes..

How about you guys take all of that pent up anger and frustration and focus it in another direction? *points at the red name on the first post*
Nick, in your case, say whatever you feel is necessary...pretty much as you have been doing. You've put in as much constuctive work as any of the rest of us in order to try to get this profession to its proper place. You have a right to vent.
Wookie, I don't know anything about you. I'm not even sure if you're a smuggler or not, and figure you probably stumbled across this thread since it's in the DevTracker. However, that doesn't change the fact that you have a right to your opinion. I'd just like for you to review the history of our profession before you go saying that we don't have a right to be upset right now. You're a TKA, which I know very little about, and I hear very few complaints about the TKA profession (I had 2 friends who loved being TKAs) other than the occasional nerf cry.So, I'll make a deal with you...I won't come to your forum and tell you not to be upset about some aspect of your profession, and you don't come in here and tell us not to be upset by all the stuff that's happening (or in this case NOT happening) with our profession.
After a year, we've EARNED the right to be upset.
/salute
Indeed, Dreven. I think I overdid it a little bit on the first post on the first page. I even editted it a bit so it made some sense. But what was said was said and like DS said, this will pass and it is. Just venting frustration.
I respected your Day 1 status and forum presence (maybe not on the Smuggler forum), Wookiee and I still have my one-star ability for your posts because you had an OPINION and expressed it with a reason. So I respected it.
BUT...here you come and 1 star my post to Caylin that was short, nice, and had nothing wrong with it. THAT is just childish. I'm still saving my stars and if you want proof, i'll throw a 3-star up for you and show you.
Anywho, I'm not gonna argue. Like DS said, again, this thread should be about and directed at the red names that provide inadequate services month after month. 'nuff said.
Actually your wrong, I have never one starred anyone. Maybe you should point the finger at someone else. I will alway rate a post at the lowest a 3. No one deserves a 1 star.
I may be stubborn and opinionated (hope I spelled that right) but I am not an **edit** who just goes out and shoots posts down with this stupid rating system.
You used all your currency in this forum too long ago JustG.
Leave us alone. You're not posting anything we haven't already found out due to incompetence, and you're not posting anything we believe.
I'm sorry to say that I also believe this is just another lie told by a group of people who have been lying to this community for a long long time. The obvious holes in this lie do not need to be repeated by me, we all see them for what they really are. The truth of the matter again is transparent to all of us.
JTL is necessary for the game to expand. You need to remarket the game and get it in the hands of new users to increase your revenue. And to hold those new people, you will devote all of your resources to fixing the inherent problems that surely will come with the expansion pack.
And you will contiue to blow smoke up our collective arses with promises of fixing our profession...
Sorry...this dog don't hunt.

Why not? It didn't seem to bother you to release the game that way....
Oh, well. Better late than never I guess
Since a moderator deleted my earlier post, I will present an edited version. I'm not sure why it got removed, but who can explain the ministrations of a forum moderator?
Mr. Gattis, as the Sr. Producer, I hold you personally accountable for the failings in this game, and make no mistake about it, this is a failing of the greatest magnitude. You have deceivedus, you have failed to maintain open and honest communication with us, and you have failed to provide a profession that is by your own admission not viable without the purchase of an expansion pack. In September of 2003, Blair outlined the minimum fixes to our profession, and Raph Koster added specificity to them on his way out. And now you're telling us that you are incapable of providing those fixes until 14-16 months after you received them.
I believe you have created an operating environment where the developers are afraid to be honest with the community and mediocrity is rewarded. As a long-time Sony shareholder, I am very disappointed in your performance and lack of leadership.
