Thread: 45% Slices on Weapons

Its just a marketing plot. Ive also sliced 1000+ weapons and armor. Best ive done is 35% weapon, 35% armor effectiveness and 45% encumberance.

Ive also seen smugglers shouting that they always slice for atleast 30%.. and ppl believe that because they can't compare a 20% slice with a 30% slice. It's all about getting attention so you get more customers and more income

Ok here are my thoughts.

The screenshot in question never shows the white colored text that appears at the top of the screen. All that can be seen is Rudd saying you have received a 40% slice. This to me seems a bit off. When is the last time when you've had a weapon sliced have you done the math to make sure the slice is 40% not 35%. 5% can slip through the cracks pretty easily. I would want Rudd to produce a screenshot with the actual game text saying you have increased the damage range blah blah blah.

Only then can you eliminate the fact that this is all just a farse, or should I say, an EXCELLENT marketing tatic.

Oh, incidentally, it's not WUK quality that controls. I had a guy GIVE me two 99% WUKs to use in slicing two guns he made and he ended up with a 14% and a 15%. This guy was a Gunsmith, too, so I expect he actually made the WUKs himself and I know he made at least one of the guns. It's random as far as I can tell. I saw some other guy last night con a guy into believing that he could guarantee results because he used superior equipment. Know what happened? The guy had his gun sliced from 7.2 speed to 6.2 speed, BUT had his damage drop from 120-151 to 95-151. Now, this could be because of a powerup removal, but the guy didn't mention that he'd had any powerups on the gun.

Near as I can tell it's just random and the quality of your equipment DOES NOT matter. Using identical gear on identically made weapons, I found no consistency in terms of slicing. You can guarantee success (IE: a successful slice) but you can't guarantee RESULTS (percentage increases). There's something basically wrong with that IMO.

My advice for people who are and aren't smugglers is this. Be suspicious of smugglers who have a glowing reputation for always producing above average results. I.e. if any smuggler carries himself as someone who can produce higher slices than most or all other smugglers, then be suspicious of him. As it is, the way the smuggler professioin is set up, there is no way for anyone to really check the slicing percentageunless people actually carry calculator to a smuggler and check the slice-- which I don't think 99.999% of people do and frankly I don't think 99.9999% people even know how to do the math, lol.

The reason why I am suspicious that some smugglers might be just telling people whatever they want to hear is because I've sat near a smuggler before in a corner where he could not see me. I was just sitting there sorta afk reading the forums and during that time he was busy slicing people. He is level 4 slicer btw. For over an hour i saw him slicing like over 35 people -- he seems very popular. And for those many people I've never heard him tell them a percentage lower than 22%. I'd say prolly 90% of times he would tell them 25% speed or damage, and the rest of times it was like 23% or 22%. I've been level 4 slicer before and I know what that was like, and I don't ever remember slicing like 35 people in a row and getting 25% slices for about 90% of the people and 22% or 23% for the rest. I know that some people in this forum will be more inclined to see some great genius than a rat, but I am not one of those people. For people who are more inclinded to believe people like this -- all I have to say is good luck and see ya.

Bottom line, things like this were never meant to be secrets in the game. Increases in effectivenes through crafting and slicing are meant to be based randomly within a certain range, with a higher range as you raise in skill.

Exploit or not, there is something that is WRONG with the descriptions or coding somewhere in the game and not making it available to everyone like it is supposed to be.

Even if this is intended, it was NEVER intended to be something that is hard to figure out and is done rarely.

This is nothing more than one greedy egocentric person taking advantage of figureing out how to workaround abug in the game.

In the least he should bug report and tell the correspondent what his work around his, because it is clearly not the intended way for it to work.

Most bugs provide some usefulness, and therefore when abused provide an advantage. Other bugs are a hinderence to a player. While using a work around to a bug that is a hinderence to the community is not exploiting in its generally accepted sense, it is still wrong.

Slicing was not meant to be some secretive thing, that only a few know how to do well, it is not meant to have any direct player skill involved, like fighting. You found a workaround for a bug that limits weapon slicing results for most people, you used it to make money for your self and feel special for a while. Now get off your high horse and get the bug fixed.

I have hit 45% on a few weapons. I hit 36-38% more often. I am the reason Dimu is here asking. I have figured out a way that seems to give the higher percents. It is not an exploit. I know people will be upset that I don't share it, but it is things like this that give me a competitive edge above the competition as Eclipse is FULL of Master Smugglers now.

luck luck and more luck comes into play. Don't try and figure it out, because there is nothing to figure out. Behind all this fancy stuff, is just dice rolls. Just roll em, and take what ya get. No need to burn your head over it.

You yourself admitted before that there was nothing to figure out, you got lucky and came across a workaround for a bug, and now you suddenly change your stance? Talk about hypocrcy. You are probably the type of beta tester that figured out all the buges he could made a list and exploited them as fast as you could before they got fixed.

You know that it is supposed to be nothing more than luck within the certain master range. You even used to post and remind people of this, but now that you came across something, clearly not intended you change your tone. Truely sad.

Is there ahint in the SS ? I noticed that the axe was placed before all the WUK/clamps and that theres alot of them for just one axe, why not just take 1 wuk / clamp up for 1 axe? I don't really bellieve that the inventoryhas any effect onthe slice, so it has to be something in the slice process itself. So I've experimented a bit with hitting cancel mid slice and resuming/restarting it, but I havent gotten any good results at all, none past 30%

I also tried to press ok, and not having anything selected in the slice menu, That seems to slice the weapon randomly without clamps or fan's, But judging from the SS you need to use a clamp, however you cannot see if the slice process has been canceled or not. But sofar i've not made any slices past 30 with the cancel method so its probably not working.

Could it be something with the race ? thats another stat theory, I doubt that rudd uses spice, because the downer would also effect the slice values. And i think people would have noticed him puking mid slice ,)

I love a good mystery i just hope that someone solves it and post it hehe.

I would still like to think 45% is possible but thowing out the "high" and just going with a consistently higher than average slice, the question still remains concerning what, if anyting, affects the slicing percentage.

Rudd hinted that the materials used during crafting affect the percentages but I am not so sure. I haven't done the kind of numbers Rudd has done or even a scientific study but these are my results from about an hour ago.

3 identicalScout Blasters produced in a Factory.

Same laser knife (crafted right before I started)

Clamps from the same factory crate.

WUKs from the same factory crate.

First gun -- damage increase of 25%

Second gun - speed increase of 13% (I gave him 500 back on this one)

Third gun -- damage increase of 29%

I would have thought that if materials made a difference, it would have shown in values that were much closer.

Just an observation...

I still say it's random. Maybe Rudd can do a 45% slice now and then, maybe he can't. I don't know, but I highly doubt there's ANY way to guarantee any kind of slicing percentage. There may be some complicated algorithm that the devs programmed, but I'll be damned if I know what it is or whether there's ANY kind of pattern to this at all. I've found the above post to be like my experience, though not with factory made goods -- hand made items for me using the same materials and I believe having either the same stats or close to that. You jump from 13% to 29% to 20%. There doesn't seem to be any real rhyme or reason to it.

Well, now that I'm doing Master level slices I have to say that I am even more convinced that 45% slices is a load of hooey. I've never seen higher than 35% ... mind you I did get a 19% slice so I'm willing to accept that a couple percent over 35 is possible. 40% ... maybe .. mabye. More than that? Not a chance.
