Thread: Smuggler missions and why we need them?

Hmmmm Tralita? Arashi is actually a long term respected member of the Smuggler community. Who created a nick a LONG while back (before the game was even live I think. Like me in fact. lol ) So I would drop the "Jedi go home" thing with him. Some nicks are... misleading. lol

I don't think we're viewing things all that differently. As I said, we agree you need smuggling missions.

I appreciate you coming, but we still have a problem with how you view things versus how we view things.
I don't see that as a "profession revamp", though. I see that more as "Adding a smuggling mission system so that smugglers can, somehow, smuggle."
Is that how you see it, or is there more to it than that?
Thanks for stopping by, JFreeman. I always prefer honest communication, whether the news is good or bad. This has been very informative.
You have stated that you don't think we are viewing things all that differently, then state how you view it, then ask if there is more to it than that.
However, I think your earlier statement is more indicative of our differing viewpoints (the italics are yours, btw):
"Enhancing the Smuggler profession is high on our list of priorities."
Thedifference in our viewpoints here is that WE perceive being able to Smuggle NOT as an enhancement, but as OUR PROFESSION. In other words, to us, it is a BUG FIX. It is game-breaking in that we are supposed to be Smugglers, yet we have NEVER been able to smuggle. People who chose Smuggler as their profession did so because they wanted to Smuggle.
All other professions can do what their name-sake implies. Imagine if Dancers could not Dance. Imagine if Creature Handlers could not Handle Creatures. Imagine if Artisans could not Craft.
Combine that with the fact that we have been told we would be "fixed" since Beta, which was two years ago, and you can understand why there is such angst around here. The bottom line is that this profession has not been able to perform its... well, profession.
I am not blaming you personally for this, nor any of the other programmers. I know that ultimately, those decisions are not made by you. But perhaps you could let the decision makers know our feelings -- and letthem know howSOE's and the Smugglers'viewpoints DO, in fact, differ.
Thanks again for posting; it has helped me figure out why there is such a disconnect between SOE and Smugglers regarding this issue.
Sincerely,

As it currently stands, GM is the only one who isn't risking his job by telling us what was underway for Smuggler... Seeing as he no longer works for SOE.Does anyone know his email? He may be able to give us the scoop. If he says, "Well, here's what I remember... And here's where we ran into some huge bugs..." we can be releived... But if he says, which I doubt, "I had to leave, because they just made it all up... There is nothing, and there never will be anything..." then we can all flame about how we can all lose hope, and quit, flame dev's, dev's are evil, and so on, ext.

Don't be foolish, even after leaving SOE he still cannot talk candidly about what goes on there if he wants to continue having any kind of carreer in this business at all.

EVERY ONE HERE IS BLIND, hell i jsut figured it out let me explain:TRALITA (A SMUGGLER) walks up to a standard mission terminal performs slice (WITH MOLECULAR CLAMPS AND LASER KNIFES BABY) and then turns on the deliver mission, but instead of jsut a standard low pay easy deliverly misson she sees deliverly mission(s) for 50k a pop with a CUT of the deliverly (SLICING LOOT) and sets off to preform the mission, picks up the deliverly and gets a waypoint on another plannet, with the cargo in hand (every single imperial or npc police with in 20 meters will immediatly agro) she heads out to deliver the goods. Is shot at in BESTINE but escapes, and delivers the cargo.later she takes another mission but slips up and is captured (INCAPED and cargo taken) and is set loose with a warning (3 strikes in 7 days and your out) upon her 3rd strike a bounty mission is placed upon her for 24 IN GAME hours, when the bh incounters her (100 meeters of her)she has 5 minutes to escape to a safe distance of 3000 meeters or off plannet.THIS SIMPLE SYSTEM USES CONTENT INGAME NOWand simply doesa few things, allows us to get our own loot, allows lower level BH to hunt other than NPC alowing for intresting match ups, and allows us smugglers to smuggle plane and simple how about that
Only that the DEVs never have been smart enough, to see that they can re-arrange the systems in-game to make new content.
i and others have posted along those lines.
At first the DEVs want to be brilliant - and then it gets hard and then they scrap it.
Instead of using what is there.
The simplest solutions are always the best and fastest.
I like to compare it to the BAG in vendor thing. Remember when they wanted to disallow packed bags?
What, after threatening to do that, was the solution?
A warning sticker!
Simple, clean, fast. Everyone gets it.
Theres a thousand things in game they could solve without new, time-intensive systems - but they want to be great and get nothing done.
If they where smart they would ask us, to do things, like you did just now - then discuss with us, why some ideas are more complicated than we think and let us find other solutions - together.
Dialogue, Involvement - and getting things done.
Doesn't go just for smugglers, of course.
But they lack IMAGINATION, for thinking about something like that.
So they make a crappy game - and i fear they are even proud of the beast.
