lol Legato, something very similar happened to me, on my very first slice that wasn't a grinding one.

A guy from my city asked me to slice his brand new pistol, a costly gift from the local weaponsmith that he was very happy for. Like Legato, lag hit, cut the wrong wire.

You can imagine how bad I felt.

Just wanted to say that it was this thread that got me started on Smuggler, and I love it! Of course, this thread is supposed to show the bad side of Smuggler, go figure:/

Anyway, the story. I had just gotten enough xp for Dirty Fighting I, and I couldn't wait to try out Feign Death. So, I call my brothers over to watch and I go to my next mission. I get there, start shooting a Huurton, and immediately Feign Death. I'm like, "This is awesome! They can't do anything to me, and I can just watch my HAM refi-" And of course, that's when a giant ball of flame exploded out of the back of my swoop.
I didn't get up in time to save it, but it's ok, because I finally have a story to contribute to the Chuckle for the Smuggler thread

Last night I was standing in the town I live in Tatooine Market Place 3000m outside of Bestine (Shameless plug) and I am talking to a trainer getting one step closer to Master Pikeman. and some guy with a (helper) tag on asks if I can slice, I have my slicer tag on, so first I wanted to say no can't do it haven't learned the skills yet but since he was a helper I thought he has probably been there done that and probably a cool guy. So he proceeds to ask me if I am any good I said well I have slicing IV so that is your decision if I am any good. Then he says I want a good speed slice, I tell him yeah wouldn't we all like a good speed slice and that they are random so here is to hoping. As I am pulling out my tools he says to me yeah I know just want to make sure you know what you are doing? I said to him well if there is an issue then don't have me slice it (Since he has already traded me his Vibro Lance) He says no no go ahead I just wanted to make sure. So I slice it and I get 28% Damage slice and I though Damn why can I never do this to my own weapons, so I proceed to tell him 28% to Damage which brought the lance to 190-405 or somewhere close to that. And he says dang it was already high enough damage I wanted it to be faster and after all this I said to him well I have one almost the exact same but it has a speed slice if you would want to trade I would be happy to. He looks at it in the trade window until the window cancells out which seemed for an eternity and he say no thanks but I will trade you my VLA for that one and I was like no VL for VL and proceeds to say nah and gets on his speeder and rides off, and I though huh after all that greif no tip no thank you just took his weapon and ran. I was tempted to send him a tell with a smart azz comment but decided he really wasn't worth the effort.

In the same night I have a guild mate who loves the fact that I slice and brings everything to me almost on a nightly basis which is fine and he usually pays me which I only accept cause he will keep tipping it back to me so last night after this "Helper" issue he comes up to me and has me slice 2 laser carbines and 2 T21's and he says keep the T21's I said ok are you sure and he says yeah I bought them and realized I cannot use them, so it was more for payment for the laser carbines and I didn't tell him I can't use them either he knows what skills I have but just the opposite of the last guy at least he was aware that I was doing work for him and he is kind of new to the game but you know sometimes it is the fact that they know you are doing something for them that you really don't have to do.

I still get people that are convinced tool quality matters. I actually saw a "former smuggler" whose bio included, " TOOL QUALITY DOES MATTER. DON'T LET SMUGGLERS FOOL YOU, IF THEY USE GOOD TOOLS THEY WILL GET 10% HIGHER ON AVERAGE.

needless to say if the game ever needed a /eraseThatPunk command, that was the moment.

Basically, I tell people in my bio that tool quality doesn't matter, but if they immediately insist on quality tools, or if they suggest I'd get better results with better tools, I don't argue with them... I just inform them that I'm using 99.99% expermineted tools Lying yes, but in the long run, it's not hurting anyone, and it's putting cash in my pocket. Smuggleresque behavior from a smuggler who's not able to smuggle. say that 3 times fast.
