I would love to see lower damage high refire weapons even at the cost of more energy.

Yes, the resources are on hand to make competitive pieces where the design of the game allows (armour, weapons, shields, reactors).

Personally, I do not stock all possible combinations of components and enhancements on my vendors. I stock vanilla components and a very few enhanced ones (reactors with overdrivers, for example).

However, I am always happy to craft custom pieces for anyone who knows what they want. That includes the use of component enhancers, along with custom experimentation as you describe.

My thoughts on this issue...I feel that looted should be better but that loot drops should be much more rare. No way should I fly 2 or 3 missions and have a backpack full of loot. I would be perfectly happy if I found 1 to 2 pieces an outing or less and with some of those being useless. Makes getting something you want to hang onto even more special. Then with decay that makes using a shipwright's services all the more valuable. Of course, the downside is less Firesprays to go around, but I don't want to see every ace on the block with one of those either.

Also, shipwrights should not discount the fact that you can outfit a ship tailored to a person's style of play. There are so many options with crafting shipwright items that it gives you as the crafter and me as the recipient much more flexibility. I hope they do fix the loot drops, because I want to have good shipwrights out there for a long time to come.

Just to give a "from the hat" answer

Looted Reactor Lvl 3 6K mass 10K+ energy (avarage I have 15 or so of them)

Crafted Rector 16K mass 10K+ energy (the 6-10% of stats I was missing will NEVER make up the 10K in mass)

This hold true accross the board and many looted compents

I'm also a SW. Not master yet, but I still use looted ship components. I use a Level 2 Reactor which is still better than my Mark 3 Reactor with an upgrade for more energy output.
For that, I usualy make chassis and ordonances (chaff launcher, proton and concusion launcher) with their corresponding ammunition. I sell them very often.. Today I made 3 pieces each with 3 pieces of ammunition and every single one got sold within the next hour.

Sure, they don't give that much of xps. Nothing compared to a Tier 4 chassis blueprint, but at least I sell them

The Dev's really should reconsider the values of the looted stuff.

We definetely need some love in the parts department....

For engines, capacitors and boosters, I have yet to craft anything close.

But as a master SW, I can usualy match reactors, at least using sub-components.

On weapons, most of the weapons I've looted have alot higher Energy per shot rating than anything I can craft, mass and eng are compareable.

Armor, crafted all the way.. I have yet to loot an armor that matches anything I craft, due to the fact that space loot always has low armor/condition ratings... heck, I've started deleting some of the looted armor after I RE it due to low stats...

We do have markets out there, so we're far from useless. RE'ing for hire definetely has promise as well. But since this is suposed to be a player-crafter driven game, it would be nice to be able to craft items that at least compete with the crafted loot, instead of items that are highly-inferior to ALL crafted loot...

Although I understand your concern, a majority of looted components is nowhere near that good. There are exceptional loots, and there's crap. Most is crap or at least no better than average.

From my personal experience, a majority of the items I use in my ships comes from shipwrights. Do I have have some looted gems? Sure, but they definitely don't dominate. One thing that I have noticed is that level 7-10 items often aren't better than level 4-6. I think stats needs to be skewed some so the really good are higher level. For example my lvl 3 engine with 77.4 speed is a big excessive. Especially since the best looted engine I've found so far is level 7 with 86 something speed.

I don't think loot threatens you in the long run. Loot is random and most is crap...

One more thing I just remembered - space components is NICE because Shipwright complements loot which complements shipwright. I.e if you want the best, you need to rely on both. Space loot hunting is fun because I know I CAN find a gem. On the ground, the chances of finding a gem is next to nil. As a pilot, this makes space more worthwhile and I truely hope that SOE realizes this and doesn't nerf space loot into oblivion.

Shipwright is a different profession. You simply do not dominate the sales of ALL the best items for space ships. This is NOT a bad thing in the long run. With the exception of some items, I also rely on shipwrights a lot:

Weapons (exception: mission reward gun), armor, shields (exception: mission reward shield with 2400 power), missiles, launchers, CM's, reactors (exception: 1k level 1 reactor for my a-wing).

Things I rely on looted versions:

Boosters, engines, capacitators (although i'm considering a very high recharge reactor shipwright made for my Nova).

I actually have seen the opposite since the last patches (11.2 mebby?)

I've RE'd some REAL good lev 4's and 5's (1 lev 5 I have has like 50 recharge and 1100 storage).

but lately, all of the loot I've found have had poor stats at best.

But that's just me... and I re about 100 parts every 2 days or so.

I dont want to scare you even more, But Ive been using the same capacitor since 2211: Level ?(dont remember, but its low), 1190 energy, 38.2 recharge, a little under 2k mass and 500 reactor drain. Ive never seen one that good since, crafted or looted(not by me anyway).

Of course, hindsight is 20/20, but what they should have done is made looted components RE into component upgrades.

A guildmate and I were talking about this recently. It would be nice to see the looted components RE into SW upgrades. Also, we toyed with the idea that the mark v components, labeled as experimental, would be just that, experimental. These would have slots for various RE'd components to drop the mass, increase speed/dmg etc. We were thinking that they could take something as low as a level 8 component and higher RE'd component, and stick with the regular mark v upgrades for experimenting with. This way, the mass wouldn't be unrealistically low and unbalance things.

Where does it officially state that this is and must always remain 100%player crafter driven? Why can't it be half and half like it was prenerf/prehotfix a couple weeks ago? Half dominated by the crafters and half dominated by looters?

They already nerfed loot and you still want it nerfedmore? Besides you do craft several items that compete such as reactors, shields, armor. then theres no compitition for ordanance, chasis, launchers. Why must all fields ofcomponents be monopolized by crafters?

Yup, I'm the same. I'm using a cert lvl 2 capacitor with 1000+ capacity, 38+ recharge, reactor drain less than 1000 and mass around 1500 (I'm not in game so I'm estimating the numbers). It's now powering the 2 cannon in my Tie Advanced without any problems, as long as I don't use weapon overload 3.

I can't come close to this.

The short answer is, because that's the way SOE defined crafting in this game. They've stated many times that crafted components are supposed to be the best around.

For my server, player made boosters, capacitors and engines can't touch the looted components. Reactors are middle of the road depending your power requirements and mass limitations. Tier 1-3 pilots would be better off using a looted reactor, tier 4 and aces, depending on the chassis, may want to opt for a player made.

Player made shields, armor, and weapons are far superior to the looted ones. However, tier 1 and 2 pilots in my guild tend to load looted/re'd items of these since they won't be in that tier for long.

I was recently given a very nice capacitor for doing some re'ing for guild mate. Capacity is around 1000 and the mass is ~50k. Where it shines is the 52 regen rate (oh yea, my decimator is gonna love this thing :smileytongue
