well im quiting this weekend, had many good times in sw.

main negative: resources needed to make a good/excellent ship = uber resources that make minimal difference , then u get undercut by novices.

main positive: being your own shipwright in the starwars universe was very useful

costs vs profit = dreadful

fun vs virtual storekeeper = dreadful

enjoyed it very much in earlys but hope you guys still in proffession get the bonuses deserved from using the uber high quality resources needed. personally found much more profit in components before quitting.

good luck to you all, may the dev's be with you.

Having just returned to the game after a 4 month break, I was hoping to start up my Shipwright business again, a profession which I was quite enjoying before I left.

The issue I am finding though is that very few players seem to fly in space anymore - with those whose accounts are JtL enabled using their ships for travel or socialising. There are a few hard-core pilots out there but most (if not all) use their PA Shipwrights (or a SW alt) to keep them supplied.

I'm not so much disenchanted with the game, more the lack of people with JtL accounts (and these seem to be very few and far between in my experiences so far).

Having just given away most of my stock and most of the components I had stocked, it's back to architect for me.

The only problem i have with shipwright is the amount of resources required to make Missiles. The price to the customers just for myself to make a profit is outragous and i admit if i was the customer i wouldn't want to buy missiles.

up until master tier stuff (cert9), it all sells really really well. even mater tier stuff sells well to people who just got master. after a time at master tier, yes, sales to those people tend to drop off. considerably.

the reason for good sales from tier 2 to tier 4 is because pilots are cranking thru and dont take the time to worry about what's good or whats not. they find a shipwright who makes high quality parts and stick with him till they master. they know they can rely on the shipwright to see them thru to the end. at th end, they often remain loyal by buying the consumables and the occasional exceptional RE'd part from the shipwright.

if you're having a problem selling tier 2 thru tier 4 stuff, you are: A) not using high quality resources B) not pricing your stuff with FMV in mind, and other shipwrights have you outrpiced C) you are not in a good location or have not made an effort to get your name out there D) any combination of the above.

you will never, ever, ever....make the kind of money a chef or smith makes. period. highest i got to was 70mil and i blew it all on resources. its an up and down game with cash, and hopefully there are more ups than downs.

as for boosters sucking? bah. read the sticky thread on 10 second boosters and you'll start selling them. its a great read and great info.

capacitors are BROKEN, period. dont make them, dont offer them. and tell your customers why. be honest with them....that goes a LONG way.

anyways. good luck in any endeavor of yours and enjoy the game for it being a game

I am a little ( only a little ) and I am thinking of dropping it the main reason is I am doing the whole fs grind thing and to be honest shipwright is pointless for this that and being a commando as well means I have no spare skill points. However I really want to keep it as it took quite a while for me to hit master.
And I am making a fair amount of creds doing it. But with half the ship parts I make being inferior to looted components and no one in space most of the time it seems like a total waste of time.
But I will have to think long and hard about it. I need the skill points but I want to be shipwright.

Im also heavily considering quiting. I been a shipwright since the 3rd week of JTLS also. I always used the best resources aviable to me on my server and crafted what i thought to be some of the best parts possible. But when i try to charge over 4-5 cpu for parts sales just dont happen. I took this profession to outfit my own ship but i lost interest in space after awhile, and to get a steady flow of income. I barly ever sell any chassis anymore everyone who wanted pilot already got it and its done with. I only sell looted components nowadays but even sales from those are near to non exsistent. Right now the only real income i have is from my artisan and thats selling power ups which is sad.

So in the next week i might be surrendering my SW, its not worth it for a small shop owners point of view only reason i guess i kept it this long is to make up losses on my resources and cash i used to get it in the first place.

They should lower resources costs make chassis have a condition that degrads after every death give them about a 3-4 death average before the chassis goes poof. Make it so we can biuld chassis i mean master levels and be able to sell them for like 100k. It would keep the market at least more steady instead of dieing out after someone hits master.

Ship chassis never get "used up". Isn't this a basic problem for the Shipwright profession? There'd be no Weaponsmiths if weapons didn't wear out...

I'm not trying to flame or to troll, just reading posts and trying to get a feel for the profession.

Selling chassis is the best way to go out of business. I think the majority (not all, but most) of people who went out of business quickly- or became quickly "disenchanted"- were the ones selling chassis and not much else. A little homework and common sense would have given anyone enough knowledge to know that chassis is probably theWORST business venture anyone could make.

Perhaps things are different on my server, but I am doing just fine selling high-end ship parts for around 18cpu. I never sell paint kits orrepair kits, and I stopped making missile packs 1 week after reaching master because it was turning into a waste of time. Most of the time I can't stay stocked. It's all working for me.

Sorry to hear some of you are having trouble selling good quality ship parts, it could be that there isn't a lof of pilots on your server- or you might not be marketing your shop to the right people.
