I'm for Crafting Mastery bonuses to shipwrights (and my guess is they may already benefit from them), but I'd be happy with just straight conversion.

What do you mean with "straight conversion"?

oh... well my point still works, i guess.

I just dont see how slightly better components ruins JTL. Better take FS crafting bonuses away from DE's since they make flight computers and astromechs.

Can someone better explain the logic behind it?

/agree

It just has to be an oversight. When they were testing the conversion process on Test Center it was noticed that Slicing had no conversion rate. Although Smugglers don't get any specific FS bonuses, they were able to get Slicing and Spice XP into the FS conversion system.

As the newly appointed Shipwright correspondent, I think that this is one issue thatyou need to bring to the Devs attention, along with the other important Shipwright issues like the truncated name issue and the mass issues with some Black Sun ships.

there should be a conversion rate. but considering how fast we can make exp, what is fair? 100:1?

yeah thats the real trick i guess.

plus its certainly true that since we can't use factories, our xp output is on average higher than other professions, so it may have to be higher than even architect.

I'll put this as one of the big shipwright issues most likely. There is some opposition so i'll have to see where the majority stands...

I for one am torn on this issue

A. i think that we would have an unfair advantage on how fast we can get xp

2. I do think it is a good thing as it will get rid of alot of the resources flaoting around as it will take a massive number to use this as a grinding profession thus taking away resources for grinding and making harvesters for lot trades. those lot trades will be a nice money sink.

so it would have its ups and downs

just make the rate really high like squad leader xp, i bet you could grind one or the other in the same amount of time. it wouldnt be fair to have an exp that you couldnt trade in.

I can really only see one problem with this, but it is a very big one. It relates to resources.

With the people currently doing shipwright just to be a shipwright Steel and Ore have become very scarce. When you can find it, the prices are ranging from 6cpu to 10cpu just for the low quality stuff. As time goes by, I think this situation might clear up some as more people master shipwright or give it up all together. Aka the number of exp grinders decreases.

But it won't get better if SW's obtain the ability to transfer to FS exp. It will get worse. If that happens then people won't stop grinding once they reach Master SW. With FS exp these Shipwrights won't just use material to stock their vendors or fill orders, they will use it to chain grind. A single MSW will go through millions of Steel/Ore an hour for months on end, and they will do it even with a horrid FS conversion rate.

Prices of Steel, Ore, Fiberplast, Inert Petrol, Alluminum, and Iron will continue to rise. It will become incredibly difficult for the little guy to be a shipwright. Worse, the FS grinders will build tremendous stockpile of ships while they grind and sell them at losses in order to get quick cash for more resources for more grinding. When they run out of cash, they will spend a few hard days grinding missions to build 10's of millions or make arangments to get the credits very quickly from others. Like I said, it won't just happen for a few days or a week. It will continue for months on end per player doing the FS grind. If SW becomes a profession to grind FS skills with, this is the kind of thing you will see.

At that point being a shipwright for the purpose of being a shipwright would only be a realistic option for people who can put 30+ harvesters in the ground at a time. Even then these could make much more cash by selling their resources to FS grinders (who will gladly sacrifice 100 million credit stockpiles for speed) then they could ever make selling ships to the average player who just wants to be a pilot.

In short, I think it would hurt the profession and then some.

You make a really good point here, but again I have to draw an analogy to Architect, who's basically a shipwright with factories. I don't really see this happening in that profession, probably because they made the conversion rate stiff enough. I do believe that alone is sufficient in keeping any profession from becoming a 'fs grind' profession.

Resource price inflation will hopefully go back down as you said, when less people are on their way up the tree.

There may be some who would choose shipwright to grind their FS xp but most will probably find it not worth the hassle and money sink. However i'm not sure its fair to exclude those deserving of the conversion because of the select few.

When it comes down to it, anyone can use any number of professions to 'grind' FS. On one extreme is high resource usage, low clickage/time. On the other, cheap but time consuming. As we've gone through the phases though, seems like most people just stick with what they're good at and what they enjoy, and convert as they go.

I think its not as extreme as you might think. Then again maybe it is and thats why the devs have nixed it.

The only bonus that should apply is vech. control. All the others are ground based anyways.

One of the only things I like about the FS is that your points are not wasted. Give us something even if it is 1,000 to 1 but please put it in as the force already effects crafter.

The way I see it the Shipwright is in a similar boat to the Architect. We make HUGE items with LOTS of xp per use. For this reason the Architect converts at 35 axp per fcxp. It all comes down to the conversion rate. Heck, make it 100 swxp per fcxp for all I care.

I don't see the harm of being able to convert. The balance can be applied to the conversion ratio and having to make the trip every time.
