I can see both sides of this issue. It does make the pilos life easier. It does take buisness from shipwrights.

I came up with a system that is working very well for me. I buy my customers RE stuff and resell it. Those that bring me parts, I give first crack at the RE'd items. If they get me tons of stuff, I offer them a discount on thyre next purchase. It sounds like I would loose money on this but Im still making a very nice profit even tho I sell incredibly low already. Its all about loyalist customers and thyre referrals. If they like you and your service, they WILL bring you stuff.

To show how well it works, I have at least 7 people who call me thyre personal engineer and wont go to anyone else. From just those 7, I get thyre referrals. Then they referr me to others. Its working well.

So ya, SOE did screw Shipwrights, but you gotta think smarter than them. Talk to your customers. They will support you!

This is a good change, it means players can actually make a living as a pilot, rather than having to run around killing creatures on the ground so they can fly. Yes, that was possible before by selling parts to a SW, but the only SW I found on my server willing to pay more than 500cr for not-amazing loot is rarely online to collect the parts. The bloke I did find offers 2k for crappy loot, I assume so he can RE for Firespray disks, so now at least, I have options: If I REALLY need some quick cash, I can head to the Chassis Dealer NPC and sell my stuff for 1k a pop, if I can afford to wait a while before I need more credits, I can just stick a wadge of parts on the SW's vendor and get double the amount.

The devs have done a good thing here, they have offered players choices.

I can't wait for weapons & armor & food....hey, how about deeds as well!! Let's see the outcry then! Oh, and I'm not talking CDeF's, I'm talking 800-900 T21's, 95% Kin armor, BER 15 heavy harvesters, and brandy that does 8k in mind boost for 12 hours.

Loot drop items are better than crafted items in almost every catagory...bad move 1

Loot drops sell for more to an NPC than folks in game pay for them...bad move 2

Loot now rains from the skies...bad move 3

While it's nice for pilots to be able to get quick cash for their loot, overall this is a bad decision on the Devs part. Not just because it hurts shipwrights, but it will end up hurting all crafting professions in the long run. Why is that? SWG is supposed to be a free-market crafting based economy. Players establish the prices and value for goods and services. For the first time the Devs have established a base-line value for loot. Now that the pilots have their easy cash cow, players stuck on the ground will want one too. It creates a bad precedent that others will use to get similar changes made to the ground game, thus affecting the entire crafting-based economy.

What the devs should have done was establish a relatively convenient form of space missions (that don't require leaving space to obtain) for pilots to earn money. That way pilots could earn more money in space, and the Devs wouldn'tbemucking around with the player economy.I get the feeling that the Devs just took the easy way out without really considering the implications. But it's too late to change it now.

Space loot is not THAT common. This change makes it, however, possible to actually make money in space, instead of forcing people to grind ground missions. 10k for tier 10 equipment is not a whole lot, seriously. It doesn't even come close to the "income source of the past" - solo grouping. Even the 10k missions you can solo now is way ahead of this.

Stop whining. Please. It was sorely needed.

i do fly. but im selling more then 15 capacitors a day. im not talking crap ones either. im constantly putting up 900's with 35 or more regen rates. i cant get those by flying myself. the bazaar allowed me to stand in one spot and sift through them all and then buy and fly out to pick them up and bring back to the shop and combine them to provide customers with real capacitors. the laboratory has created some 1100 40 rechargegoliaths for the bomber guys. and high recharge low mass onesfor the interceptor guys. if the loot is gonna hand me enough to keep that pace sure i will fly. but i doubt it will. atleast let me go sift through the chassis broker stuff.

i love being able to understand the re stuff and make things that have people saying "holy crap !! thats sweet" it really makes my day. this will not happen as often now

I'm not whining. I'm pointing out that this was a bad idea that if it was carried to other professions the outcry would be all encompassing. The folks who say this is good have missed the boat in what is suppose to be a 'player driven economy'. If loot drop items are gonna sell for so much, and have such superior stats, why are you and others 1-staring me for saying lets add Rifles, Armor, Food, Deeds, Stimpacks to ground loot drops. And to keep them comparible, lets make them superior to player made items approximatly 5% of the time.

Where's the diference? Other than this benifits those not in Shipwright to the detriment of those that are?

Seems to depend alot on what server you're playing, wheter you like this change or not. On Starsider you've been able to sell lvl 1 stuff for 3k to SW's since the launch of JTL. I only sell the usefull stuff (unless the SW asks me specifically to bring everything back), the rest I delete. I never sold anything for more than lvl x 1000 though, but now I can sell the crappy stuff as well for that price.

You know, I've been thinking about this for a while and I'm wondering if SOE actually made a brilliant (maybe not likable, but brilliant still) move to solving what was an upcoming dilemme.

If you haven't guessed where I was heading, yes, I'm talking about the Firespray.

First, why are SW angry? Well because people will no longer want to drop their loot off for 1 cred or 1000 cred when they can just stop by the chassis dealer. Us SW could care less about the quality of our REed low level loot... we're in it just for the Firespray pieces.

So now with our loot dumps pretty much destroyed, it severky increases the difficulty of obtaining all the stuff we need to get the full schems.

The way I see it, this change does 2 things...

1. increases payouts to pilots to offset the costs of getting owned by npcs and people in pvp

2. decreases the number of Firesprays that will appear on the market and make them more rare

Now, I'm not saying this is a good or bad thing, but it does seem to be a smart move if this is what they were actually trying to do.

Personally, though, I sort of like these changes because as a player struggling with the shipwright grind (keep running out of money to keep my harvs running) it's nice that I can take time off from crafting, hop into a ship and blow up NPCs, loot stuff, RE them, then sell them off to the chassis guy.

I guess, to each his own, but this has actually made my grind a little less harsh than it was.

This is a great idea. Have the chassis broker sell the items that he gets at a markup.

I honestly think that this whole move to chassis dealers buying looted parts was a database issue. They are always finding ways of limiting the stress on the database, well with the chassis dealers buying loot, poof, instantly disappears from the database. 1k per RE level is a good incentive to get people to use it.

As a shipwright, I hate it, as it is making it harder to find low re parts to re for firespray disks.
