Is it possible to make a Level 2 item?
What level is a Mark 1 Engine with a Mark 5 Upgrade?
I thought it was possible to make all level items, except for level 8?
What is the point of having 5 marks of upgrades, if they never change the level of the item? Why would I ever not use a Mark 5 upgrade? Ok, I guess you can argue that you can tweak the mass....
The big problem is customers don't know what they want. I figure in 2-4 weeks life will be much less frustrating. If a customer says
I would like a reactor with this power output min, this mass max.... give me the best you can, then I can go to town and enjoy this system. With people just saying, make me the best you have, I have no idea how to do it.
I think crafting is cool, and I am glad there is a more involved profession. Architect is boringly easy. However, this is a game and I don't want to have to keep spreadsheets of 20 columns, and do v-lookups and matrices to figure it out. I am all for complex, but it should be intuitive. The system is not intuitive at all.

Oh that makes some sense. So there is no way to make a level 2 item?

I know that. But what is the point? since the pilots gain access to both level 2 and level 3 gear at the same time, why not just do away with the entire notion of "level 2" (and all the other even numbered levels) so that the pilot skill level and the mark level will be equal??

You have to look at the way the pilot certs work.
Each level of equipment training gives you certs in two levels of gear.
So a pilot at 1,1,1,1 can use level 1( from novie ) level 2, and level 3 gear ( from first teir of pilot )
The crafted items fall on the chart below, and the looted items fill in the rest of the levels.
That is how it was explained in beta anyways.
Mark I: is level 1
Mark II: is level 3
Mark III: is level 5
Mark IV: is level 7
Mark V: is level 9
Because of looted item complexity. The certification level doens't mean anything for crafted items. It will have great meaning for looted items. It basically adds to the looted item/RE combinations.

how so?? it is impossible for a pilot to have the ability to use level 2 items unless he also has the ability to use level 3 items. the entire concept of a level 2 item is therefore meaningless. you couldrelabel all level 2 items to level 3 and nothing about the game would change at all.

Because a level II item is inferior to a level III item. It adds greater variety, and ensures that not all loot will be better than whats crafted. Chances are a Lvl II loot item will be inferior to a nicely experimented Lvl III (Mark II) crafted item. This way, the crafters can compete with the loot that is salvaged in space.

In the short run - it's confusing and hard to explain at times...
In the long run - it makes it feel more "real" - it's not just "Equip VK and spin" or get steel by harvesting it (i.e. instead of processing iron ore plus additives).
Already on Scylla, someone has posted a great <a href="http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Scylla&message.id=266934">guide</a>. And granted, not everyone reads the forums, but the system is just starting and already the information is flowing reasonably well. A little learning curve can be a good thing.

I don't know what's so confusing about it. It's no different than weapons that have certifications for use. All you have to do is hit control + S (skill table) and look under the 2nd column and see what you need to use a part. <shrug>

sure, it can be understood and isn't that big of a deal. But the reason it is a pain is because customers tell me "do you have any level three parts". sometimes they mean "do you have any Mark II parts" and sometimes they mean "do you have any Mark III parts" and I have to ask them which they are really asking for. I'm annoyed that the system has this potential for miscommunication built into it for no meaningful purpose. It's not a big deal. But it is annoying.

Mkappus wrote:Does shipwright really have to be this complex. Why do we have "Mark" and level of equipment. If confuses me and the consumer. Why not just have level of components. If I want to make a level 2 capacitor I should be able to, not a mark 1 and the right mark upgrade....Come on look at capacitorsMark 1-5 capacitor4 types of uprades, each Mark 1-5So to make capacitors there are 25 different items? These net 8 different levels of things? Seems ludicrous to me.
Man, I was going to make some comment about Droid Engineers, or about welcoming you as a novice crafter, but by your sig I see you're an Architect? How can you say this is complicated after pursuing Architect? The SW profession, in my mind, is the LEAST complicated crafting profession of them all--maybe second least when you count Master Artisan.
