Thread: Do we really need this level of complexity?

I completely disagree. This is the first true crafting profession and i have done them all. There are guides to help your customer, Use them thats why they were written. I suggest take some time with each customer and school them on what the labels mean and what the levels they can use are....If you dont have time then refer them to my guide its easy to read and it explains almost everything you need to know for buying a ship. Use all the resources that are there to help your self and others. Dont just jump in feet first and expect it to be like any other profession because it isnt and thats what makes it so great, Learn your trade and help your customers and you will see this is exactly what we as crafters needed
I second that! Lets not make this into a crafting profession where you have 1-2 options to customize the piece and thats it. This profession is great, if you cant hack it becasue there is too much info...then leave it those of us who can. I'm more then willing to explain to people buying what it is. I even build it then go out and test it myself then go back and redo what i don't like. I think SOE has a winner here with this profession.

Does shipwright really have to be this complex. Why do we have "Mark" and level of equipment. If confuses me and the consumer. Why not just have level of components. If I want to make a level 2 capacitor I should be able to, not a mark 1 and the right mark upgrade....
Come on look at capacitors
Mark 1-5 capacitor
4 types of uprades, each Mark 1-5
So to make capacitors there are 25 different items? These net 8 different levels of things? Seems ludicrous to me.
I want it

The combinations are staggering. This is why being a shipwright pretty much will mean every job you do is custom.
There will be a few combos of each item which will rise to the top as being more useful. But untill then, just sell them a vinalla ship in a bag, let them figure it out. Once the individual pilot figures out what he needs, he will then request a custom order.
Shipwright is going to be the tailor of the engineering profession.
I know that. But what is the point? since the pilots gain access to both level 2 and level 3 gear at the same time, why not just do away with the entire notion of "level 2" (and all the other even numbered levels) so that the pilot skill level and the mark level will be equal??

You have to look at the way the pilot certs work.
Each level of equipment training gives you certs in two levels of gear.
So a pilot at 1,1,1,1 can use level 1( from novie ) level 2, and level 3 gear ( from first teir of pilot )
The crafted items fall on the chart below, and the looted items fill in the rest of the levels.
That is how it was explained in beta anyways.
Mark I: is level 1
Mark II: is level 3
Mark III: is level 5
Mark IV: is level 7
Mark V: is level 9
