Thread: What do you like about Shipwright?

I enjoy almost all aspects of the Shipwright profession. I see this as a great example of how the crafting professions should have been implemented across the board to make them fun for the crafter as well as valuable to the end user of the crafted products.

1) I love the lack of factory support. Creating one-offs of products sepparates products and creates a market for items crafted to customer specs. I enjoy working one on one with customers vs. mass producing a product and hoping the public consumes what I am offering.

2) The lack of experimentation skill tapes is one of the largest draws to the profession. Shipwright is a level playing field for all to enter and participate in, as opposed to other crafting professions that are gated by the need to pay outrageous sums for skill tapes that take you to the final step of being competitive.

3) The fact that this profession in no way feeds the Jedi grind is awesome. Not everything in the game should be about becoming a Jedi. We supply nothing to the FS grinders, and they gain nothing by partaking of our profession - just as it should be. We're important in our own right without feeding into the power game.

4) The resource spawning for shipwright specific materials is as it should have been implemented for all professions. While this is a relatively new profession and some resources have yet to spawn as high quality materials, it at least can be said that on any given day I can actually find *something* to work with in the way of the materials to craft a component. As time goes by and shipwrights collect better and better specific resources there will be less discontent from the more casual shipwrights.

I made my toon a Master Smuggler/Master Shipwright/Reb Pilot. I picked up MSW just for customizing my own ship for JTL, and that is what I do, make some of the best (that I have seen) weapons, missiles, bombs, armor, etc.
The grind was hard, very expensive in resources, but I got there (I have 2 accounts and my Crafter [MWS/MA/MM ] had alot of resources stocked, but it still took months to collect enough for the grind).
At present I make alot of custom kits for ships, weapons and missiles for my Crafters vendors. I could care less about making money with them, seems how my crafters weapons and grenades carry me credit wise.

I think the best part I like is the ability to interact with the customer to make it how they want. Example if they wish less mass, more energy etc..

Where as with weapons u make it with these stats and just throw it on the vendor and wait for people to buy. I am not saying some of the stuff from SW on the vendor, but still you do interact more with people than most crafting professions!

At first it was the thought of the credits, but that changed.

1) I personally appreciate the happiness a person has when I've spent the time in gettingthe most out of what they currently have in their ship.

2) When I give advice and then at some future point the person comes back and says it worked out.

3) The ability to tailor a weap, for example, based on specifics the customer might be looking for.

Just a few quick ones.

1) I like building and outfitting my own ship, and then testing it out in space

2) I like the money

3) I like that resource quality matters for most of our products and that forces competition on a quality level. I get a sense of pride with making quality parts that put the wanna-be's to shame.

4) I like that the profession can be tough, and takes dedication to stick with

5) I like that there are no hides, or fruity (and othewise useless)subcomponents from othercrafting professionsrequired to make our wares.

6) I like that most of our wares have an appropriatelyhigh resource requirement, I think they should- after all it's a ship, not a swoop bike.

7) I like that we can mix and match different levels of subcomponents in our wares, it makes tweaking much more sensitive and gives us many different options for approaching energy/mass/performance problems.

Shipwright is a pretty frustrating profession for me sometimes. Some of the things I dislike about it in the other thread are tied to the things I like about it so I end up contradicting myself.

The lack of Force XP conversion and the huge resource requirements keep the dabblers out of the profession. I like that we're so few - most of us left are serious about it. At the same time though, I'm personally irritated that shipwright XP doesn't convert. Alas, it's a profession of many contradictions.

The resource requirements are actually a point of pride for me. I mine all my own resources - I only buy when it's too good a deal to pass up - and yet I maintain(mostly) fully stocked vendors. I think I'd almost be let down if the resource requirements dropped.

I don't really have the time to devote that some others do, so I don't make an insane amout of credits (you really get what you put into it) but I still do pretty well and I love the feeling when I get a new customer, especially when it's from word of mouth.

All in all, it's just a very gratifying profession for me. While there isroom for improvement, I don't playbanking onany changes being made,I enjoy it as is.

i like that we are the only provider for space (except for the artisians repair kits)...on the ground you would have to visit multiple crafters to get your game on.....like WS, AS, chef, doc, etc... but we are the "one stop shop" for space...that has to be my number one motivator, oh and i fly too, so it is nice to build anything i need when i need it.

I love it for my personal enjoyment, someone posted somewhere about how a good driver should know how to fix his own car, and thats what i like about it,I enjoy controlling every aspect of my ship and its stats,I can tweak and adjust everything, reactor drain, mass, output etc. I love getting new resourcres whereI can squeeze another 5 pts out of something LOL.... Once in a whileI sell sometime, that's fun too LOL

1. Reverse Engineering : I think this is a brilliant system that gives class interdependance a whole new dimension. There's no rare spawns to camp for the best parts, no quests to take for the certifications for the best parts, it's just a matter of going out and collecting (which everyone likes to do - LOOT!!!), and then comparing parts and combining. In order to have the best ship you must fly it and make it great.

2. Ship Customization : Every part of your ship is customizable, from look to performance. There are tradeoffs that must be made to tailor your ship to your playstyle. It's just remarkable to see 2 ships that look the same but can be used for completly different purposes, but at the same time certian tasks require different ships (not just different parts).

3. Limited factory support : I've said this before, and it's been mentioned here before so I won't dwell on it too much, but it separates the real shipwrights from the generic crafters.

I think that everyone has hit on what I like:

Reverse Engeneering - the most fun for me personaly

No Facroy Support - make each item more interesting to craft knowing it is unique

Resources - I don't make parts anymore but when I did it was fun searching for the best stuff and named resources

Amount of customization - make shipwright and pilot fun, always something to tweek

Really I like everything about the profession except that some crafted stuff just can't compete with loot and that there seems to be no demand because no one is in space any more.
