I think you have to have at least novice artisian to make a fishing pole.

nothing. absolutley NOTHING depends on anything else.
the size of fish has ZERO to do with the amount of meat/bait
the planet has ZERO to do with the amount of meat/bait
the fish density has ZERO to do with the amount of meat/bait
the amount of exp gaines has ZERO to do with the size/meat/bait of the fish
it's completely random. and completely stupid.
Unlike the rest of SWG? We use smouldering torches for light. We can make lamps but they dont work. We make desk lamps that sit on the floor. We wait 10 minutes for flights except in Theed where the ships depart as soon as you get there. Should I continue?
Actually I rather like the meaninglessness of fishing. Helps me unwind after a hard day hunting rancor. And as a way of getting Wilderness xp, it sure beats sitting in a tent watching the clock. At least I get to keep the fish meat, and my BE friends love me for that.
The Fish Density does have something to do with how often you get a nibble and land a fish. And Vegetation does effect how many snags you get.

I used my new macro "/fish" and get the message that 'I cast my line and begin fishing...' However, nothing else happens...I don't get a fishing window and kinda just sit in knee-high water looking stupid. Yes, my fishing pole is equipped and I baited it.

I just started fishing for the first time tonight and am having the same problem. I bait the pole then cast, it telss me I've casted and start fishing, then nothing. No window that everone talks about, no stars to tell density of fish or vegetation. I got the same thing on 3 different planets, lakes, rivers, or ocean, doesn't seem to matter. Is fishing broken?

Actually, I was finally able to fish on TC this weekend to test out the increase in numbers, but I understand TC fishing was broken for quite some time. Anyway, looks like the amount of fish gained from fishing was increased around 3x. I was able to get about 300 fish in an hour at a 4 star spotover my roughly 100 fish previously.
