Thread: Volsted's Power Fishing Guide (aka /burstfish)
Vin,
Biggest I've seen was a .96. I've heard they can get larger, but I've never caught or seen one.

Delta: Thanks for your answer.
Volsted: You write about pole quality in percentage, but in the game I can only see a number without a percentage sign, when I examine my pole. Is it the same or is there a difference? Even though my pole just is 10, I must say I have been pretty succesfull using your guide, so thank you!
I've been able to consistently catch a fish every cast (barring a 'shucks you lost your bait or, whatever you were reeling in got away) here's how...
It's just a matter of 'unlocking' the right combination.
Start by tugging in any direction, don't bother with Reel In (except to try to bring the fish in closer right before the auto reel-in)
- Did you get a nibble? Great. That's your 'Nibble' tug.
Pick another tug, even the Nibble one over again. It doesn't matter it's random.
- Did you get a Bite?! Great. That's your 'Bite' tug.
- No? If you don't get a bite, start over with your 'Nibble' tug, pick a different tug from your last, you only have 2 options left, once you get a Bite, go on...
Tug in any way, it doesn't matter it's randm.
- Did you get a 'Caught Something?!'. Great, you've caught a fish.
- No? Use your 'Nibble' tug, followed by your 'Bite' tug, followed by a different tug from your last, you only have 2 options left.
Follow the other great ideas posted in the original guide to speed up the caught fish extractions. I haven't noticed a difference between my 10 and 86 quality poles. Haven't gotten anything but fishes

It's the same. Since the maximimum possible pole quality is 100.0 and the lowest possible pole quality is 0.0, I tend to refer to them as percentages.

Does one need to be a scout to fillet? I'm not getting the option.
Yes, you must have at least Novice Scout to fillet a fish since you gain Wilderness Survival experience when you fish and you can only gain Wilderness Survival experience if you have Novice Scout or above (at least that's the way I think of it).
Also, to place any furniture above the floor level, you need to have a house with stairs. When you drop an item in your structure on stairs, it will drop at your feet at the level you are standing. Then you can select the item and either chose 'Move' --> 'Forward' or 'Back' from the radial menu or use the command /moveFurniture (which can be shortened to just /move) forward (or back) ## (from 1 to 50). So to move something forward 5, you'd do '/move forward 5'. If you use the radial menu, it will move the object 10 units (whatever they happen to be), so for precise placement you'll want to use the /move command. Also, the direction you're facing is the direction the object will move and you cannot move objects through doorways, so if you have stairs in one room and want something in another room, you're out of luck until they include a '/move up' or '/move down' command.

You do get survival XP but has anyone figured out what determines how much is doled out? In some experiments I caught a Faa fish and it gave me 163 XP (the most I've ever gotten) but I only got 5 units of fish from fileting it. My next Faa fish I got 98 XP but I got 14 units of fish. I never checked the size of the fish so maybe that's it, does anyone know for sure?
there appears to be exactly ZERO rhyme or reason to fishing.
nothing. absolutley NOTHING depends on anything else.
the size of fish has ZERO to do with the amount of meat/bait
the planet has ZERO to do with the amount of meat/bait
the fish density has ZERO to do with the amount of meat/bait
the amount of exp gaines has ZERO to do with the size/meat/bait of the fish
it's completely random. and completely stupid.
What turned me completely off to fishing is this (and I was psyched to start with, if you read my original posts):
1) there is no skill. just:
- find a high density spot
- use a good pole
- fish parallel to the shoreline (see fishing guide) so you can run up to your catch
- collect your random fish
2) there is no skill.
3) there is no skill.
nothing you, as a player, can do to increase your catch size/meat yeild. ever.
Totally pointless.
Make fun of me all you want guys but i'm a ranger 4-3-4-4 and i've never been able to figure out how to make a fishing pole. I would assume that it would be in my crafting station by my cammo's, but its not. So how do i craft one.
