Thread: camping macro

You'd still be able to do all that, plus you could add in an /afk command. Your four macros would be in slots 1-4, then you'd put the macro-starter in slot 5. The only difference is you'd have an extra macro for the times you wanted to use all 3 macros. The starter macro would look like this...
/afk;
/ui action toolbar01;
/ui action toolbar00;
/ui action toolbar02;
Now all your macros are running as if you had actually clicked them yourself. They will run independently of the starter macro because it doesn't loop, all it does is start them up. That means you can stop any specific portion of the macro the same way you do now, by removing it from the toolbar. You could still run only specific parts if you wanted by just clicking those ones the same as you do now.
Not telling you how to do your thing, just offering a suggestion to take it one step further. I don't use macros so if you see any problem with how that's set up, please correct me so everyone else knows. I'm just putting together the different things I've heard to take your macros to the next level of automation.
that didn't quite format right...cleaned it up in the quote...
They really need to add an edit function to these forums.
You need to compare apples to apples .... I didn't say making a camp was boring.. I feel that grinding for camp xp is BORING...
Go ask any Dr. how much they enjoy standing in the medical building all day to get xp... and be prepared to get their rant-o-da-day...

I'm neutral on the macroing issue, but I really don't understand the motivation. Granted, I'm only finishing up the scouting tree, but in my experience, you get massive camping experience just from being with a hunting group and providing the service of, well, camps! Macroing camping is like doing bench presses with a pencil--it may not be difficult, and you can keep it up for longer, but the return on your investment is just ludicrous. Why aren't you out playing the role of ranger with hunting parties, and getting your xp naturally? A decent size group that spends 3 minutes healing up will give you 500 xp or so. Is it really that difficult?
UPDATE - The Camping Macro:
So I was a little off the mark yesterday when I posted the proper pause time for a basic ranger camp to auto-disband...
I can now report that I've had success firing off 12 camps in a row using the following set of macros. When you have all three of these macros set up... just fire them in sequence and take a break. The few things that will break this is a server down, a SWG disconnect, isp drop, etc... Its a good idea to set yourself to /afk. These set of macros can run for nearly 12 hours so I suggest firing when you go to bed and it should run until the time you get home from work (which is my typical usage). I do use broadband (which may help with the disconnect issues) and I try to set up next to harvesters as that always seems to help keep me from getting a SWG Lost connection. In addition, I usually throw out an R5droid for flavor (or a probot set to guard for protection if I'm really worried about what's nearby)
CAMP MACRO:
setup: place 12 camps on the toolbar of an emply toolpane starting from the lower left (slot 13) to the lower right (slot 24). Once the macro is written, stick the icon for it in toolbar slot 2 of the same toolpane as your camps. Fire it when ready.
/stand;
/ui action toolbarSlot12;
/pause 10000;
/stand;
/ui action toolbarSlot13;
/pause 10000;
/stand;
/ui action toolbarSlot14;
....etc etc etc to....
/stand;
/ui action toolbarSlot23;
SAMPLE MACRO:
setup: use whatever survey tool you want, find a good resource and set the tool to sample that resource. Once the macro is created, place it in the first toolbar slot of the same toolpane you have your camps in. This is an infinite looping macro, so the only way to break it is to move or remove the icon from the toolbar slot so it doesn't refire.
/stand;
/pause 10;
/sample;
/pause 700;
/stand;
/sit;
/pause 1000;
/ui action toolbarSlot00;
....that last action refires itself provided its in the first toolbar slot. Also, after the /pause 1000; you may want to make a call to a flavor macro to give yourself something to do while you're sitting and regenerating action points. To do this, stick your flavor macro in say... toolbar slot 4 and then add the following after the /pause 1000; - /ui action toolbarSlot03;
MASKSCENT MACRO:
setup: Just in case there's wandering reds you might be able to get scout xp from, stick this macro on your toolpane and fire it off to ward the evil spirits away. Stick this macro icon on toolbarslot 3 of your toolpane with your camps. As with the sample macro, the only way to interrupt this loop is to remove the icon from the toolbar pane.
/maskscent;
/pause 70;
/ui action toolbarSlot02;
FLAVOR MACRO:
setup: as mentioned in the sampling macro, this can be added to give yourself some internal dialog or flavor while you are waiting to regen. I usually have an R5 or probot droid out... so I have a little conversation with it while I'm waiting. When I initially set up the camp I will set up some patrolpoints for the R5 droid and I reprogram his "patrol" command to "sheesh" (you'll see why in a sec). Just make sure you have yourself targetted when you fire it off.
Look R5... we keep having this discussion. I know you want to go, but we need to stay right here for now.
/pause 20;
What makes you think thereare better resources over there?
/pause 10;
Don't get technical with me! I'm not going to move the camp R5.
/pause 10;
: wonders if R5 has a bad motivator.
/pause 30;
Of course I know there are hostile creatures nearby!
/pause 10;
: checks to make sure his blaster is charged.
/pause 10;
Every 15 minutes its "Danger Danger" from you.. If you're so worried about it, why don't you go check it out.
/pause 10;
No... I'm not going to do it. I'm going to sit right here and rest. You do it.
/pause 10;
Sheesh
/pause 60;
So... are you satisfied? Is everything secure?
/pause 10;
: wonders why he puts up with this droid.
... you can fire this off by adding a /ui action toolbarSlot03; while you are sitting to rest from sampling provided you stick the icon in the 4th toolbar slot of the toolbar pane with your camps.
All in all... this is a useful set of macros designed to help you maximize your account dollar by allowing you to gain the aweful wilderness xp while you are away. I'm sure there can be improvements made to this, but I have had good success with the above.
Cheers!

I myself Agree with both Ray and Shrei
I enjoy camping for the social aspects of it. Lots of times I'll just run out to wherever the most people are fighting and pop down a camp and invite everyone in shout range to take a break.
I suppose this will be more attractive to folks once I get the more high powered ranger camps, but I still get visitors come round.
However, I don't feel as strongly anti macro...if thats what you want to do, then so be it
How much camping XP do you get for your hours of macroing on average?
With my pop down a camp in a populated area and advertise, I gain about 6-800 camping XP per camp, and the camp is up about 10 minutes, maybe longer if friendly folks stop by and we get to chatting
I really don't see camping XP as much of a problem....but then again, I'm only nearing master scout, and have yet to experience Ranger XP needs
Perhaps the people who are looking at camping XP as a grind or chore should focus on the social aspect of it....take a day, decide to yourself that it is going to be "break day" and you aren't going to chase hard after the XP demon....load up on your best camps, foraged vittles and jawa beer, and set out in search of groups of folks out there. Pop down a camp and invite everyone in earshot for a sit down picnic, you might have some fun and meet some interesting folks.

Im having quite a laugh reading this post.
Im going to save you all that are still fighting your way up the ranger tree alot of headaches....
Its not worth the effort!
Trust me..
-Wayfaring may be worth it to get a few extra shots off on mobs because of the wandering they do when you have maskscentup, but in truth, i dont notice any more real wandering during the first few shots in a fight than when i had explore 4...many high level mobs will break even a wayfarers maskscent in a second, so the explore idea is back down to stop/start patience. This can be achieved at a lower level of camo easily....Wayfaring worth it? preference i guess.
-traps HAHAHA..please...spend all those skill points just to fight creatures? that gets old fast when you want to take down NPCS or even if you choose the pvp route. Again...trap 4 in the scout line is extremely effective on any high level creature..IF you still find a need to "trap" creatures...this line is a total waste.
- hunting...one word..BROKEN...the new information doesnt even show up..ive tested this with other rangers, and on every creature i come across ( and ive seen them all, or nearly all of them)....to hit bonus? well maybe...harvest bonus? i cant even sell all the hides i have and i sell for cheap...i dont even bother harvesting anymore....again, scout hunting is PLENTY to harvest bonus, but again its a call on your part.
- camps...i can see why this whole thread is here. camp exp is the most brutal aspect of rangerhood. I played a ranger in beta, so i now have double the amount of time wasted in camp exp. The only real ways to get this exp are 1) be part of a large PA that has folks understanding enough to craft in your camp ALL DAY while you twiddle your thumbs. 2) be part of a large PA that has hunting parties that will allow you to be the exclusive camp setter. If you try this solo, you have to compete with the multitudes of bounty hunter wannabes who need that bit of camp exp for master scout. True, you have more interesting camps and if you are quick enough, you can set one up and most people will flock to yours instead of that puny scout camp. Is that worth it? ninja camping? Not to me. In truth, i soloed ( and still do) my way through ranger. I have many boring hours sitting and doing nothing but restting camps. Worth it? NO....buy a few crating station droids, a surgical droid and make basic camps....it amount to the same thing ( minus the OHH nice camp comments, which will fade in time)
Save your macros...play the game....Ive had to spend many hours that i could have enjoying myself in game to come to this conclusion..im saving you the trouble.
-Good luck in game. Have fun, dont grind. ![]()
for the High Quality Camp (ranger 1 camp) my timer is set to /pause 10000; and it works... 5000 isn't enough time... although it was previously stated that going with the Improved Camp (Top Scout Camp) may be a better bet as it lasts exactly 50 mins (vs the 1+hour for high q) and is only 100 less xp... so it may be a more effective camp to grind.
Keep increasing your /pause times until it works for you though...
also... I'm still fuzzy about /pause times... reading the /sampling forums you get the impression that /pause is measured in half-seconds... so that a /pause 60; actual equals 30 seconds real time... is this true?
The argument being is that Harvesters are measured in 30 second increments as well...
