Good point Fodder - I didn't even think of the trapping droids. If that works it could be a good workaround! I sent my husband an email ordering requesting him to have a trapping droid waiting for me when I get home. We'll see if it works!

I was Novice Scout trapping and then 3'rd level Socut trapping (Thank you Respec), could not hit a single trap on any 80 lvl gurks.

Ok with the testing of the droids. There is a post in the Ranger forum that the person couldnt get the droid to launch a second trap. This is easy enough for Ken or myself to test. The other point is Dweezil which is the trap enhancing food.

Of course, to be honest, this is all a bandaid workaround for the real problem of course.

L-Darts dont work. Use P-darts

Hey all--

The droid alternative still does not work. I have a droid with a 97 trapping bonus and lecapanine darts, and I'm still not getting any of them to stick. I have only Novice Scout, and am CL 80.

Evidently, if you want to level trapping and are a high-level character, you have to do it the hard way....

Continuing thru Double-XP days, Xixdoggie found he could use those Level 3 traps (P-Dart, Noise Maker and Glow-Juice) successfully on CL 52 critters when he was CL 50.A few missions and, lo and behold, Trapping IV and Master Scout. So that worked out well.

He's now CL 72, Master Rifleman and 4/4/0/4 Ranger. Things are now getting rough. P-Dartsometimes succeedson CL 72s but not Noise Maker or Glow-Juice. While Adhesive Mesh succeeds almost always on CL 72s, it doesn't do anything (as mentioned in other threads -- this is a huge issue and should be at top of Scout List).

So, I guess trapping is definitely possible to get, as long as you're soloing your own level or grouped with similar level or lower folks. Won't work with the CL 80 combat-XP-gainers though. Maybe the Ranger traps will, but got another long haul with a non-functional trap to find out.

I just got some. It gave me +19 to trapping for 15 min! With that stuff, I was able to trap at my level and get a good amount of exp. It definitely solved my problem. Now, if I could only find a vendor that had a continous stock of it.

Heya Paks, in case yer interested still:

1. What level trapping were you? Master Ranger... whatever level that is... I don't have any tapes
2. What was your combat level? CL80
3. What was the combat level of the creature you were fighting? 50's - mid 60's
4. What kind of trap were you using? P-Dart

So I am on Yavin, hunting critters camokits... (might as well make a few for the guildies) I went through a case of p-darts. After a bit I decided to track the percentage of traps that stuck, because the numbers seemed way out of whack. Out of the 102 traps I flung at critters that were well below my level, 38 stuck. That is a pathetic 37.25% success rate.

Last night I was having trouble using traps against some creatures. Kept getting an error saying that Traps only work on Creatures. Well the selected target was once a Durni, once a Paralope and once a Vynock and all the times it gave me that error and when I killed the creature I could not harvest from them either. Just another new twist to it all for those who are working their way up the ladder.

The following is being posted in a seperate thread as well because its an ongoing thing. This is what I have so far though Paks.

To give Paks a bit of a hand a started a fresh character on Bria today with the sole purpose of grinding through Scout. I'm paying very close attention to XP gains over the course of each CL and will be doing my best to recount them in this thread. I'd have done more CLs tonight, but I have a date with a Kashyyykian Corvette in about 20 minutes that takes priority. Here are my findings for CL 1, I'll update this as I go.

CL 1 Vs. CL 1

or

How Quixotic Maer kills Tame Rills

I found a repeating spawn of CL 1 Tame Rills and went to town. The player is complete Novice fresh template. Here are my findings. (If you don't want to read the numbers just skip to the "Early Conclusions" section at the very bottom.)

  1. No Traps

    • 200 Unarmed XP

    • 20 Combat XP

    • 136 Scout XP (harvested 7 hide from 3 Tame Rills)

    • 136 Scout XP (harvested 6 bone from 3 Tame Rills)

    • Missed a few times but was hitting for 45 pts.

  2. Throwing 1 Wire Mesh Trap (100% accuracy when throwing the first trap)

    • 132 Unarmed XP

    • 12 Combat XP

    • 66 Trapping XP

    • 136 Scout XP (harvested 7 hide from 3 Tame Rills)

    • 136 Scout XP (harvested 6 bone from 3 Tame Rills)

    • Did not miss once during combat and hit for 45 pts each time.

  3. Throwing 2 Wire Mesh Traps (First Landing, Second Not)

    • 132 Unarmed XP

    • 12 Combat XP

    • 66 Trapping XP

    • 136 Scout XP (identical to above Scout XP findings)

    • Did not miss once during combat and hit for 45 pts each time.

  4. Throwing 2 Wire Mesh Traps (First and Second Landing)

    • 98 Unarmed XP

    • 8 Combat XP

    • 100 Trapping XP

    • 136 Scout XP (identical to above Scout XP findings)

    • Did not miss once during combat and hit for 45 pts each time.

Note: Managed to bank some Unarmed XP while waiting to hit the 2k needed to train in Scout. The Problem though was that I lost about 36 Scout XP when it happened because the 2k needed to train the first box of Exploration meets the current Scout XP Cap for a Novice Scout. That means a Novice Scout cannot earn more XP than 2k! The Brawler portion of my template can reach 6k before capping (enough to train the first and second box of Unarmed Combat at once.

Early Conclusions:

  1. It's pretty obvious that Trap XP appears to be working like Weapon Type XP and Medical XP. If you use a trap during combat (that includes initating combat)the final XP gain will be divied up between Trapping XP and Weapon Type XPs. The unfortunate thing, though, is that it will not be included in calculating your Combat XP and will result in loss of Combat XP for using the Trap.

  2. So far (and this is an emphasized "So Far") Scout XP appears to have no correlation to Resource yield. In such small numbers though it is still too early to tell. When I advance in Hunting I'll know for sure.

  3. Tame Rills are stupid.
