Thread: Trapping xp problems please post your experiences
Wait'll you get to the 70K for trapping IV!
I'm CL 18 and take CL 17-20 missions. Glow-Juice, Noise Maker and P-Dart all work most of the time. With 3-5 traps thrown per critter I can now get close to 300 trapping XP per critter (with Insp Buff). Getting Nov Rifles allowed me to put on recon armour, and our chef has started making health and health regen foods. And doc buffs are good for low CL toons. So I've gotten 23K Trapping XP so far and might get to Trapping IV before I get the Rifleman Combat XP Tier 1 box. My reward will be the broken adhesive mesh, which pre-CU was a GREAT trap. But at least I'll have Master Scout and can make the decision on Ranger.
2. What was your combat level? CL 17
3. What was the combat level of the creature you were fighting? I've tried it on creature levels 80, 22, 19 and 17. I have thrown many traps at these levels of mobs and not one will stick. I have thrown enough to where it's not that I'm just unlucky. (i am estimating i've thrownsomewhere around100 traps with 0% success rate at landing one)
4. What kind of trap were you using?I have tried lycopene darts and wire mesh traps...both without sucess.
Well, I was TKM/Commando/most of Marksman and Smuggler. Now I dumped all of TKM. So guess what? I was racking up scout xp like crazy. Then I trained it all.
Now I find that I can't get any trapping xp because my level is too high and I can't hit with my basic scout traps. So, now I am 4x44 Scout and I don't want to give up my Commando just to hit with traps that is weak. Plus, I crashed to desktop so I can'trespec either! Otherwise I sure as hell would.
This is pretty screwed up. And for as long as I was scout/ranger, I should have known that trapping wouldn't be effective ina level system.
So, what do I do? I wanted to take advantage of the double xp weekend!

Unfortunately, from what we know right now, the only thing you can do is bite the bullet and trap low-level animals for the 1-2xp. As you train up the trapping boxes your mod will get high enough to allow you to trap creatures closer to your level. But it is going to suck. Which you no doubt already figured out.
Get a lvl 80 group that can deal with lvl 80 critters
Craft Half ton of basic traps
Get missions
Then, launch your traps until one hits the mob. When the trap fails to connect -> no aggro.
When the trap lands its effect on the mob -> tell your group to attack the mob. And DON'T do any other attack on the mob
-> All xp granted is trapping xp.
The problem is : if your trapping lvl is too low, you may launch your half ton of traps and have no effects....
I tried the drop to level 40 method it does not work i threw about 250 traps at the target with none hitting.
I grow to dislike the level system more and more each day. Levels are for morons and 6 year olds.

Long-time player. CL 80.
Trying to master Scout for the first time with my second character. Didn't think to respec it in, and now respec is gone.
Can't trap anything feasibly unless it's level 1 to 4. Get only 1 xp (2 xp during double time) for it.... ![]()
And, because of the low trapping levels in the scout tree, my traps will NEVER get strong enough for me to trap things of my own level........ ![]()
This needs fixed. This is basically telling experienced players that they have to sacrifice everything just to change one of their base professions. ![]()

2. What was your combat level? 25 (working on Master Rifleman)
3. What was the combat level of the creature you were fighting? tried the low level critters outside the starport in Coronet and got 1xp, then grabbed missions from Theed that ended up being level 15, after about 10 throws finally get one to stick but it killed me, so got my husband to come out and meet me with his level 80 (master rifleman/master ranger) and hold it with a trap for me so it wouldnt kill me again and got one to stick after another 10 traps and get 1xp, then tried grouping with him on Tatooine and got level 80's, after 20 throws of nothing sticking gave that up, then ungrouped went back to Naboo, got missions out of Eden Prairie that were levels 25 and 27 went to the mission, got him to freeze it with a trap for me, threw over 40 traps and none stuck, got P O'd and quit trying.
I've been helping a friend grind trapping xp and I wanted to know:
Can a player use traps crafted by another player that are higher level than his current ability to craft?
Where I'm going with this obviously is could a scout grinding trapping xp use traps crafted either by a master scout or rangers ect ect that would work on lvl 77-82 mobs?
Anyone have any clues about this? my friend is having a bugga of a time doing this stupid grind.
cheers

As far as I know it's not the trap that determines whether a trap will stick - it is your trapping mod. So if your friend has a low trapping mod s/he will only be able to trap low-level creatures.
Precurb we had tested the idea that higher level traps stuck better then lower level. And it seemed to hold true. Although glow-wire seemed to be the exception to the rule then. As for now you have to wander if the codes not there for this to be the case.
The other thing is that trapping droids, built with multiple modules, have decent trapping bonuses. They only give half trapping xp. But it might be an interesting test to see if a trap bot can land traps more often then a normal scout/ranger
