Thread: New idea to replace Maskscent nerf

Yup that certainly does sound reasonable and somthing that would be fine.




It would help of course if the Devs would make it so you could mask scent whilst on a veh.


True it only takes a second to hop off and re-enable it.




Main reason id hate to see mask scent taken away whilst on bikes altogether is that its very good for driving slowly around areas where your hunting for a specific baby creature.


As driving around at top speed hardly ever lets you see all the mobs in time.



Even with +25 - 30 Mask scent cloathing, your not allways garenteed that you will escape detection, and trying to loose some of the mobs that chase after you on Dathomire can be a real pain in the ass.

Just to clarify, your bio-clothing bonuses cap at +25, regardless of how many items you're wearing...

I agree with Lorell. One reason I like to maskscent on my speeder is this, due to lag (i suppose) the radar often does not update to show the MOBs when ridiing on my speeder until I am right on top of them. Yesterday I was riding without maskscent and I rode right over a Mt. Squill on Tat. As soon as he appeared, he hit me for 322 Health. Imagine if he was a Rancor! A good comprimise is to keep maskscent but no XP when riding.

Does anyone know if this compromise was submitted to the devs instead of the voluntary nerfing of maskscent?

Actually, I haven't submitted either. I'm waiting for TH to let us know when new ideas are welcome again. He's got a lot on his plate, and I know that this is a small enough issue that it doesn't need to be taken care of immediately.

I recently gained 30,000 xp using mask scent on Yavin just running from one POI to the next. No mount, no vehicle. . . just runningthrough red MObs on my way. This seems to be just too easy. I've been a Scout since release and have seen various changesto Mask Scent xp over the past few months. I would have no problem with the XP just being removed from the equation all-together, vehicle or no.


That being said,I'd like to see logic applied to this issue:



  • Vehiclesare (as stated earlier) loud and smelly. Animalsshould either scatter or become aggressive in the presence of a vehicle.

  • Masking Scent through the use of musk, urine, orchemicals would not be disrupted by the use of a vehicle or mount.

  • Vehicles are impossible to conceal through the traditional means employed by Scouts. Mounts (if able to differentiate) may be able to conceal through these means.


The bottom line: Mask Scent should be suspendedwhile using a vehicle, but not while using a mount.

Oh my gosh. Theres nothing wrong with mask scent. You should all be glad that mask scent works while your in a vehicle at all. Realisticly, it shouldn't, but the Devs are nice and it does.


Seriously, how long does it take to tismount, mask scent, then mount again? Two and a half seconds? I personalyl always travel with mask Scent on. extra scouting XP is nice, avoiding random aggros is nice, and when it wheres off, I jsut hipe off my bike, re-do it, and hop back on. Did you people not know that this was possible? Mask scent is a useful skill that is perfect the way it is.

I personally am not against maskscent on a vehicle. We're already not getting scout xp for milking, which in my opinion should give either scout or creature handling xp. I enjoyed using maskscent as a scout. Maybe the answer is to have a low level maskscent for scouts and a maskscent2 for rangers. Also I'd like to add that CH's would have a much easier time if they got novice ranger and used /areatrack to find babies. I keep running into noob CH's on Naboo and pointing them toward baby critters. Let me also add that the wannabe BH's I've come across have no idea about how to use maskscent. I grouped with one the other day who was clueless. I don't think BH should require master scout, because I haven't yet met any who deserved the title.

It's not a question of being able to use the skill on the vehicle. We are primarily concerned with those using a vehicle and mask scent to power level their way through the Exploration and Hunting trees - they could effectively not have to hunt at all after that first 1000 XP to gain Mask Scent.


Powerlevelling any character will result in someone not having any idea how to play that character - it's one of the reasons why PvPers who have stuck with one profession are far better than those who go with the flavor of the month.

About /mask on vehichles...


Don't tell me you guys have never hunted on dath during peak times only to have most of your group wiped out because an aggro mob trained following bike after bike that passed it?

Unfortunately, a majority of scouts on this board do not want maskscent available while you are on a vehicle. Since that is the will of the majority, a compromise has been proposed to eliminate maskscent xp while on a vehicle. That's stops the exploiters while allowing scouts to use their best ability without voluntarily nerfing themselves. For those people who don't want to see the maskscent ability taken away while on vehicles, please support the compromise as it's better than nothing.
