grinding xp on a speeder is almost as dumb as this entire thread...


if you want to grind xp quickly, go to any advanced planet, group with about 5 to 10 people, and harvest everything that your group kills. You usually get about 300 to 500 xp per harvest, a nice fat stack of resources to sell, and weapons xp to boot... Killing 3 birds with one stone.


As far as people grinding xp on a speeder, I say let them. It will take them 3 times as long, and they will have nothing else to show for it.

Perhaps, but that's not the point. The point is we'd rather they go out in the group and actually SCOUT rather than play speederbikeman.


It's just a little thing that the Devs overlooked when they added vehicles, and our job is to catch the little stuff.

That was my point as well (that people should scout for XP). My other point was that this is not as significant as we are making it out to be.


I often use sarcasm to illustrate a point:For example --Look how easy it is to gain XP by actually scouting! Real Meaning -- What a waiste of time to do it any other way. But heck, if someone wants to do it the hard way, take twice as long to accomplish thier grind, nothave any organics to sell in the process, andpay maintenance on their speeder or perhaps even loose itdue to damage,who am I to stop them?!

Ack!!! Allow me to apoligize... I never considered that using mask scent while on a vehicle to get a few extra exp. points was an exploit!! I agree that harvesting is the best way, but am still confused why you would want to prevent people from moving through the profession quickly to move on to whatever else they want to do? That being said, if you're set on removing it so people can't get exp "without scouting", then please just remove the exp for it rather then moving the skill someplace else. BE's and CH's really need this skill and making it harder to obtain doesn't seem fair. Thanks for your time

quite honestly...........making it easy would just defeat the purpose of everything wouldn't it?


i mean....im doing DE because of my holo, but you don't hear me complaining about how long it takes to do it. In fact i enjoy a lot of the time. I make droids and give them stories for sale on my vendor.....but still...telling us that it takes too long to get scout...you should have tried it way back when. BEFORE Delta's guide...

I assume that Mask Scent and Conceal will merely be 'suspended' whilst on a vehicle rather than drop, i.e. as things work now for combat; as dropping would be a real pain on the resources for Conceal?

I believe the idea of making mask scent unavailable whilst on a vehicle was one of mine, the reasoning I had behind it was this;

1: Using maskscent and a speederbike is an easy and particularly cheesy way to get scouting xp
2: I felt that creature mounts needed an advantage over vehicles

In my estimation mask scent should work if you're on a creature mount and not when you're on a vehicle, I read BE's here saying they like to have mask scent so they can ride up to lairs and sample, but you'd already have decent terrain negotiation so what's stopping you from riding up to 50m away, putting mask scent on there and burst running like the clappers if something aggros ?

Rangers do not need a second mask scent, what they do need is mask scent bonuses scattered throughout the ranger tree - a master ranger (at least when I was one) has the same mask scent bonus as a 4-0-0-0 scout, that's just wrong (unless there's a mask scent bonus in master scout, I forget, but my point is that there are NO mask scent bonuses in the entire ranger skilltree).

Camouflage should work on NPCs (and players in my estimation, with certain provisos), Christ alone knows what the devs were thinking when they nerfed this, camouflage should ONLY work on NPCs, an animal isn't going to be fooled if you look like a bush but stink of Old Spice.

Again, both skills should only work if you're mounted on a creature, no NPC is going to be fooled by a hedge riding a speederbike, but a dewback that looks like it's snapped off part of a tree might fool him.

There is no reason to remove it altogether. Like I've said before, just remove any chance for scout xp while on a vehicle. That way people can still use the ability that they have earned, but they aren't exploiting it. I agree that the xp should remain for mounts. Let's quit talking about removing our best ability because of a few exploiters. If everyone can't mind their own business about how the other guy is leveling, then at least we can compromise and say no maskscent xp on a vehicle.

funny how this thread went from us saying...lets take off the xp gain from being on a vehicle while masked, to ...oh this thread is stupid, then.....getting xp is too hard.....

How about Maskscent is suspended whilst you're on a bike ? It treats you as though you're not masked, but as soon as you get off it comes back up again and performs all the usual checks ?


So you shouldn't have a period of vulnerability between getting off and masking your scent ?

Here's my thoughts:


I'm an amatuer dairy farmer on tatooine. While I'm milking a herd of banthas, some person flies really close on a bike, spooks all the animals, and because of lag, the one I'm milking goes out of range, plus they are now all scattered about, so a longer walk in between milking. A person flies by with maskscent up, and they don't spook the animals. Also, there are times when I will be flying, when my screen catches up to the lag, and the herd of animals shows up on my screen, so I jump off and milk them. Well, if I hadn't had maskscent up, they'd be scattered about already, and probably would be spooked and wouldn't let me milk them.


Now, I'm not a master scout, or a ranger, I just have the exploration tree and the hunting tree. I used to have the former because when I used to play, vehicles weren't in the game yet. I keep it mainly for maskscent, plus the negotiation bonuses can still come in handy at times. I have the harvesting tree because I need meat and organics for my spices. I could probably buy them, and I'll probably surrender that tree sometime in the future, but I figure when I'm killing critters, there's no reason to waste, right?


So yeah, I'm a dabbler. Maybe I'm not the best person to be throwing in my two cents, but I certainly would miss maskscent while in vehicles. Spooked animals are not fun, even if they are easy and not agressive.
