Personally wasn't real sure what to use when I started, so i took the mid ground and went carbine. I'm enjoying it so far. Drop a lecepine (sp?) trap and a glow trap, then legshot til the mob is dead. I can sometimes have the mob die at my feet, sometimes i have to legshot it a couple more times.

I have expert pistol, hunting 2, explore 1, a scout blaster (can't find anything better on intrepid) and that's it for skills so far. I don't use traps. Using prone and bodyshot 2 I can solo Vynock lairs for destroy missions (they are white to me) and am making plenty of money, over 2K credits per mission. I am not raising any other skills because I am going for BE, just have to get surv exp sooner or later but placing camps and sittin there for many minutes sucks.

To get a little more specific, get around 30m away, throw the bone spur which really lowers the mind and then use headshot. One trap, one shot, one kill.

I think the best way is probably the trap -> headshot method. Works for me...

Headshot comes with the skill level advanced rifle from the marksman branch.

Use this in combination with 2 trap types. i ahve found this method can work very well.

Distance: 45m

aim

Blind trap\glowjuice trap Both work well.

head shot

headshot

headshot

if the animal is still alive and comes in close then switch to a a different trap and go to kneeling position at point blank range you can use headshot still with a +10 or you can hit for overpowered shot this usually drops any creature.

at ranges between 60 to 64 meteres best to aim and use overpowerd shot you will get more of them off and also take cover. This will give your your modifiers to hit and really do heavy damage.

Hope that is somewhat usefull.

if you need training on Advanced rifle and can;t find someone and happen to be on Bria look me up.

Odes - i have to agree. I love the idea of animal trainer. So many cool animals to have as companions. None of them to argue with you. LOL

also it is a great idea to train an animal like a baby Savage Puigios from Rori and unleash it on someone to outflank them.

I love the idea of that. i am interested in trying several differnt species of animals after mastering the skills of using the first animal. One in particular is the Swamp Cats of Rori.. mean beasties killed me 5 times before i got away from their lair the first time i went out in the wilderness.

so many cool creatures such a vast universe.

I've been using a rifle/polearm combo with traps. Max distance with the rifle throw a glowjuice trap for range attack then when they get up close I switch to the polearm. This seems to have the desired effect. My character is a wookie so this may be the reason the brawler skills seem to work well up close. Not fond of the pistol thing up close.

I'm very new so I'm sure there are better combos but I'm hitting mobs for 200ish with a polearm up close and very little damage from a distance with the rifle. I haven't put anything into novice marksman yet tho. I plan on doing that this evening.

Still learning and I wasn't in beta or anything.

I'm using a carbine which I like, but the rifle may be the way to go with a scout. The reason being is we have a couple of good traps that do damage to the creatures mind pools. The bone spurs and the noise makers from where I've gotten in 2nd level trapping. I wouldn't be surprised if a good rifleman scout could throw one trap, and follow it up with a head shot, and take out just about anything even or below.

best weapon scouts have are traps.

my MO is to throw a bone trap, then hit em with head shot2. Im able to kill every easy creature in 1 shot, and sometimes with just my trap. Make sure you throw the trap first, otherwise they aggro you before you can get the trap off.

It depends largely on what you can find. My server, Lowca, has very few carbines available (the two top weaponcrafters are boycotting making them because of the special attack costs), so I got a nice scout pistol early on (42-87, 3.4 seconds). Today I picked up a amazing DH17 Pistol that's if I recall correctly 67-120, 2.4 seconds. Everything in game litterally dropped one con level when I equiped it

My tactic has been snare trap, run, bodyshot x4,repeat till dead. I mostly hunt red con animals (greater shaupats are a standby), and haven't had any problems at all with my pistol's range. If something is a blue or white con I just kneel and shoot it a couple times.

The only problem is that I rarely get hit, so I rarely get wounded, so I rarely have wounds for my camps to heal. Explore 4, trapping 4, hunting 3, survival 2

I get to 45m with rifle and prone. Do headshot 2, throw adhesive mesh (root), do headshot 2, throw sharp bone spur (blind) and then headshot 2 until dead. This is on a yellow.
