Add one more voice to this thread. I love exploring my friends call me the group photographer there is nothing I enjoy more then running to the ends of a world and taking screenshots of everything I see. Would be nice if there was some reward for my new gained knowledge of the planets I visit and explore. What if terrain bonuses actually worked on your knowledge of the terrain rather then your knowledge of skinning baby paralopes. Any way just my .02.

If I try to go out in the wild I get smoked by some red that shows up out of nowhere. I'm trying to build enough XP to be able to survive.

Outside Theed on Flurry I call it "The Killing Fields". There's not a chubba or diseased nuna that stands a chance. People tend to leave the spineflaps alone until nothing else is left.

I'd love to group but onyl with people who are going to take turns sharing harvesting. No sense in me being out there otherwise.

I agree 130% My biggest reason for becoming a scout was because i love exploring. I will go out and drive around(rl) and if i see a trail i will pull over and go down it, sometimes leaving the trail. I figured the best way to do this in game would be to start a scout. Too bad we don't get xp for exploring, i've just about got a great chunk of Daeric area on Talus memorized so that i really don't need the map to get to and from the city. IMHO we definitly should get xp for exploring normally and i'd say more than normal if we happen to find a POI along the way. Man i just can't say how much i really think we should get xp for exploring, so instead of repeating it over an over an over i figure i'll pray that other scouts find there way to this thread and agree. (I do wish they woulda kept the explorer skill as that's what i really wanted)

I've been over quite a bit of Corellia myself. Still haven't gotten bored enough to take any trips to other planets (other than doing the Suicide Shuffle on Yavin 4 before the nerf ). I've been over most of the world map and am going back to find the things I missed. Like the fountain mesas in the Agrilat Swamp or the mysterious abandoned ring of mehnirs, like Stonehenge, in the northern mountains. I've seen rare creatures and tamed some and killed others and had a blast doing it.

That said I also ground out the Destroy missions to harvest (I was at Explore 4 and Hunting 2 before the Suicide Shuffle so don't say I didn't pay my dues) and I Trapped and camped my way to Master Scout. In other words I showed proper respect to the profession by doing all the dull and repetitive parts that all crafts require before the Apprentice becomes a Master. I can see how getting exp for simply travelling would be nice but don't you think it would be too easily exploited. Just hit auto-run on a route you know has no Aggressives and go watch tv?

Perhaps if we had missions that yielded exp instead of cash. For example have a map maker ask you to travel to a lost shrine and survey the area. Something like that.

But be rewarded for just running around? No I can't agree with that.

Great posts everyone! The reason Ibought this game is to explore. It would be nice if we we're awarded for doing just that. We can only hope that the dev's read the posts. We are quite low on the totem pool, so I don't expect any changes for our profession any time soon.

If the exp were changed to that the difference I would imagine seeing, instead of scouts going on long trips into the wilderness, they'd just get the minimum distance outside a city and run around in little circles, soaking up the exp without getting the intent or risk of exploring.

Id definitly agree with that, if any profession should be awarded for adventuring, it must be scout.

I agree with this point and in another related thread (posted here), I believe we came up with a feasable solution (I just hadn't seen this thread before). Tell me what you guys think?

If Spawns farther out remained static for longer, or indefinite periods of time, then I could set up waypoints to map out the creature resources of a planet, and this would be incentive for me to explore. The few times I've tried this so far, creatures moved around, and I was back at square one in a few days. Developers may wish to consider this. It would help Rangers, Squad Leaders, and Creature Handlers command the landscape a bit better, rather than making every trip out a vaguely known quantity with mixed results on any given Sunday.

I agree that scouting xp is awarded wrong. However, if you base it ontraveling, what is to keep someone from pressing numlock and start leveling without even sitting there? Sure you might get attacked, but youcould level without REALLY doing anything. What if the xp you get from harvesting and animal went down slowly the more you harvested that same animal. That would encourage people to explore and find new animals to harvest from. I realize there are issues with this too, but it is really more of a primitive idea than a plan.

I have been all over Corellia as a Scout ( and IdomeanALL over ). I didn't get any experience untill I "settled" and started the shooting. Now I'm a Ranger. Big woop, Ranger. I have more chances to get "spawned on". Not much better then Scout really....

Check the Ranger thread devs: we have a few suggestions for you

I think the world maps should be broken down into a grid of100 square meter cells, and you should get Exploration XP for each new cell you visit, outside the city boundaries. This would be pretty easy to support in code (visited here, nope, xp granted; visited here; yep, no xp granted). This could ultimately require visiting multiple world for full experience.
