Thread: Real Scouts vs. City Slickers (No in-game reward)
I agree totally. I'm hanging out in the wilds around Dearic on Talus, and I think it would be very scout-like to get EXP for running around in the wilds. Also, it can be a lot more fun than just attacking putrid decay mite hatchlings, and throwing 3 or 4 traps at them.
Entertainers get EXP for entertaining, why don't Scouts get EXP for Scouting?
I would say it must involve moving around. Otherwise you find a place in the middle of nowhere, sit down and reap experience.
That will make it harder to deal with. Ideally, you should be moving to new areas and revisiting areas already explored should be worth less. Of course, if you have not been to that area for a while then it should begin to regenerate "scout xp".
For example, I make the run between cities on Tatooine quite often. I am beginning to recognize specific places. In this case, the scouting xp for moving through these areas should be generating less. If I stop going between two cities for a week or two the scouting xp should be back to normal.
I definitely have to agree. Usually when solo I pick up two destroy missions in the same direction and milk the lairs for as much harvesting experience as possible off of easy dark blue cons. How is that scouting? The creatures don't assist, so I don't even need to "scout" a way to lure them away from the herd.
Last night I took a ship to Tatooine from Corellia, originally having boarded from my home planet (well... moon) of Talus. I docked in Mos Eisley and boy was I so very not surprised at the population increase. So I sat in town and crafted my necessities - camps, traps, stimpacks - and then set off for the untamed deserts. Everytime an arrow appeared on my radar, I followed it, regardless of color, just to see what it led to. Did it get me into trouble? Heck yes!
Did it get me incap'd? You know it! But I explored and I hunted down my prey. But, because I didn't sit around killing everything in sight and skinning it, my scouting experience was poor. Whereas someone else can go less than 2k m from the city, sit at a lair, and bring in more experience than myself who is daring to explore and learn the land.
I grouped up with a good friend later that same night and, feeling a sense of wanderlust and curiosity as he was approaching a pack of dune lizards to tame one, I slipped off in search of something to scout. I found a herd of dewbacks and decided to take a chance and find out the hard way if they were social. After getting back up from being incap'd, I searched around some more and discovered a roaming herd of bantha. Using what I had learned about the quirks of non aggressive animals (charging and fleeing), I was able to lure one away from the herd after some time and lots of patience. I didn't kill it, however, because the ability to separate it was satisfaction enough. Of course, I got no sort of experience whatsoever for that, when clearly it involved scouting and understanding creatures.
I whole-heartedly agree with the scouting experience for exploration and technique being awarded. More risk, more precision, less sitting close to a city and skinning the same thing over and over!
I also agree. I like you, have been all over Corellia, my starting planet. I have seen more of it then most or all of the Scouts that just grind the xp. Of course I also go after the blue mob lairs and take em all out, gather hides and sell, collecting my scout xp. How else am I supposed to actually advance as a scout.
We who wander all over the planet risk getting killed in some strange unknown place. How about if we get some explorer xp for hunting creatures that are outside the 1000m no-build zone from any city?
Agreed.
The whole point of scouts is exploration, so therefor we should be rewarded for exploring. Right? This is one of many things about the scout/ranger profession that needs to be fleshed out.
It seems to me that Scout and Ranger are the professions that are going to require the most attention and fine-tuning by the Devs. So...many...complaints...
I've concluded that the only way to get better as a scout is to kill things which seems a bit silly. Shouldn't players willing to explore the vast reaches of the planets we live on be rewarded in some way (perhaps exploration XP)?
With all the exploration I and my friend did, we're arguably more deserving of the title scout than the average hide-looter and camp-maker but there is no mechanism in game to reward this...
Some ideas:
Grant XP slowly for every km travelled in game more than 2-3K from any city
Instead of granting camp XP for making camps, how about grant survival XP for time spent away from a city without returning for healing, food, etc. The game already knows when you are in or out of a city, that would be a good distinction. This way we'll see scouts heading out into the hinterland for days on end exploring, etc...
But then we'd need content out there...(I know... different post)
Thoughts?
I'd have to agree. I get the fastest scout XP by killing low blues and skinning them.
Any change that would make it beneficial for me to explore places would be beneficial. Although I expect that the developer's solution to this wil be to nerf Scout XP off of low blues (I played EQ for years, I know this is how they think. Nerfing is quick and easy. Fixing/creating new features requires time and money).
Scout XP for exploring makes sense to me. I played the space MMRPG from EA and they granted XP for just going to places for the first time.
Anything that would make me feel like more of an explorer and less like a bug killer would really be a help.
I have two dumb ideas but hey what the heck right?
1. How about Scouting XP for finding different PoS'a (points of interests) and taking pics of them! The better the pic, the more XP!
Kinda like Pokemon Snap! *shutters*
Ok.. like MGS2 ![]()
2. We all know the running across the planet pretty much consists of you looking at the mini map, and trying to get the white dot (you) through the red dots, without getting too close to the red dots. How about getting Survival XP for avoiding battles, OR successfully escaping from battles!!
Where are you Devs!?
The only reason I have not mastered scout yet is because I have refused to sit around killing things for hours on end. I was always under the impression that you could achieve certain things without have to be in combat 24/7. It irritates me that I have extensive knowledge of every creature on Talus, because I have taken the time to go out the vast reaches, study their behavior, and sure kill them and take their meat. When my friend has reachedMaster Scoutand he's never even seen the mountains. There is something horribly wrong here. Oh well, I will continue what I do. My goal is to know every creature in the game as in-depth as I know the ones on Talus.
