"Standard Rifle Engagement Range" has nothing to do with sniping. It's the distance at which two opposing infantry forces will normally engage. Just about any rifle can hit something at over 500m, just not in an efficient enough manner to make it practical.

Sniper rifles shoot at over a mile, assuming you can see the target that far.

Since a true sniper is not possible in with the technology of SWG, we should not concentrate on capabilities the devs will not be able to give us.

1. A bit of both... of course the T-21 is supposed to be a heavy machine gun.

2/3. IMHO the best thing to do would be to keep rifleman general as it is now, but let the weapon determine what skills are available. You could have specialist skills that are only usable with a sniper rifle (added range/stealth/head shots) for eg,and skills that are only usable with a heavy machine gun (some kind of full auto). This gives us the choice of weapon (and therefore skillset) to cope with the situation at hand.

4. For sniper, increased range is a must... +50% range sounds like a good starting point to begin testing. What range could the SWG graphics/game engine cope with? Is that even a factor to consider? /shrug

5. Keep damage types limited to providea weaknessto the potentially very powerful gunner. I'd rather be very powerful with a weakness that gaming skill can try to protect than simply be mediocre.

so if most of you want to be heavy gunners, then maybe accuracy and defenses should be taken down a bit. I am in the military and have been through both, Marine sniper school, and have trained in the M60. First off as a sniper I don't run around shooting things but rather enjoy the safety and defense of a well hidden sniper local and as an m60 I can lay havock on a group yet am more prone to be targeted by the enemy for such massive use of firepower.

So as a formerr rifleman, I ask you guys to choose:

Sniper ( with accuracy, slow rate of fire, range and major defenses when proned in concealment, but major penalties if standing or running)

or

Gunner (with high rate of fire, accuracy, yet lower defenses and take penalties that actually affect you at long ranges)

just my 2c

I think we should be both sniper and heavy gunner

my reasoning is, back in WW2(just think back for awhile) Rifleman had rifles with scopes and no scopes, they were effective at long and medium range, and ok at best at short range.

i also think we should have a better rifle for closer range, or maybe a skill that can shoot legs and slow down(maybe 10-30%) i dunno but would be cool to slow melee down from getting too us, probably 10% would be most balanced so they can still get in lunging distance

need rifle attachments taht can take on and off, for example you have a rifle A which is good at close range, has a pistol grip(like some assault rifles), throw a stock and scope on it, the range mods change so its good at long range, it would look different physical and adjust the stats, should only be able to be done with rifles because this actual would happen, if you got a rifle with a scope you'd take it off to use the built on peep sights

1. As our skill tree is set up now. Do you feel we are snipers or heavy gunners?

Id say heavy gunners, with the range in this game it impossible to do sniper. Plus its so much fun mowing stuff down.

2. Do you feelwe should be leaning more towards heavygunners or snipers in our skill tree? Our should we balance them out more, keeping them both?

again heavy gunners

3. If you had to pick one or the other what would you want, 100% heavy gunner or 100% sniper?

80% gunner 20% sniper

4. If the profession is built more on sniping, do you think we should have more range? What should we have?

nah to the range, then everybody will wanna nerf us cause we can kill them before the get to us, already get alot of hate tells from melee players (getting to like it though) and i dont really fell i need them from the ranged profffessions too.

5. If the profession is built more on gunner, do you think we should have more damage types? What should we have?

Kinetic would be nice and so would heat, but if i had to choose id take kinetic.

I have to say sniper.

Afterall, the profession is "Rifleman" NOT "Machinegunner". I really long for a "ghillie" ability. Puts a ghillie suit on you and you when you go prone. Your dot is no longer shown on the radar.

I have read on the ranger forums that this can be circumvented by hackers if they were clever. However they could just make the dot blue. Almost like a TEF. The sniper would not be TAB-Targetable. But they would still be targetabe if someone saw them.

A combination of this with removing the dot completely (so that non cheaters can't see it) would be a very sniperish ability. Sniping from balconies like in the Coronet med center would be a very cool ability too. Urban sniping. LOL Of course someone can lay you out from behind or you can get ganged on by a bunch of people below or have a commando lob a grenade at you but it would still ROCK

as much as id love us to become more sniper orientated.. the game design cantincorperate it...

no range over 64m + no one shot kills +no radar stealth (last twoare game breaking) = no 'proper' sniper class.... EVER...

Sniper

2. Do you feelwe should be leaning more towards heavygunners or snipers in our skill tree? Our should we balance them out more, keeping them both?

Balanced, Some more powerful and acurate snipe shots that can only be made from cover, and less acurate single target burst shots (say 3 shots random pools or something) or AOE volly fire (random short delay or posture change)

3. If you had to pick one or the other what would you want, 100% heavy gunner or 100% sniper?

If i had to pick, even though i took the class liking the snipe.. pvp will proboly never let a declared person not show up red on radar. With that in mind if i had to choose id go heavy gunner regreatfully so i would stay alive more than a few seconds in pvp.

4. If the profession is built more on sniping, do you think we should have more range? What should we have?

Yeah if we are a sniper make us have 70 like turrents use to have, its not allot but gives us the long range for slower guns.

5. If the profession is built more on gunner, do you think we should have more damage types? What should we have?

Something old school like a actual bullet-- IE Kinetic damage, nothing like flying lead to say hello.

or tracer rounds.. hello fire!!!

Right now the tree is basically set up for both heavy gunner and sniper (however unbalanced).

What are your thoughts on this? And if it was to be changed what do you think should be done?

1) I feel more like a sniper. I go out, kneel, line up my T21 and open up and drop something before the mobs/npc's around it know it's dead.

2) I'd say 75% sniping 25% heavy gunning. We're the ultimate at 'reach out and hurt someone'. Commandos are the fools that get to run up close and play heavy gunner =)

3) sniper

4) yeah, more range, maybe 75m max instead of 64m max. That way it's not too unbalancing.

5) /shrug more damage types is always good.

i would have to disaggre i think we r about 80% hvy gunner and 20% sniper.

if u have every watched the movies sniper1 and sniper2 as a sniper u strike a singal taget unknowingly and then back to headquarters for ur next briefing.u have to be quick and unoticed, which is physicly imposible in the swg game.because the radar is the only flaw without the radar we would be snipers but everyone regardless of profession or anything has a radar making it imposible to be undetected.in conclusion as u know a snipers motto is "ONE hit ONE kill" and as the devs said that would make the game way unbalanced.

100% gunner

sniper is not possable with radar.so why not a few moves for us run in gun down and head out kinda rifleman/and,or women.dont get me wrong snipers r great but its no logical in swg with radar as ive said in other posts.i thinkthe devsshould redo the other non sniper trees to be for us assault troops who wana go in and clean house...or make it 100% sniper if the devs can make us either invisable on radar or as neutrals until we strike...or 100% gunner and give us some mods such as accuracy while moving and specials like semi-auto 1 at the second box and semi-auto 2 at the fourth box..im thinking of somthing like double tap for pistoler dose normal the dmg of the default attack at semi-auto 1.and at semi-auto 2 it dose 3 times the dmg at 2..makes pretty good sence if u ask me just a comment i can dream.haha

100% HEAVY GUNNER ALL THE WAY.

DONT GET ME WRONG I LIKE THE IDEA OF SNIPERS BUT THE GAME DOSNT ALOW IT (FROM THE PVP POINT OF VIEW.I MEAN FOR EXAMPLE U GET BUFFS TAKE SOME MUON AND CRUSE TO ANCHOR FOR SOME FACTION. U GET ON THE BANK BESIDE THE STARPORT YOUR OVERT AND SEE A FEW OVERT REBS TALKING ABOUT DUELS.RIGHT WHEN UR A +50 RANGE WITH UR DMG SLICED T21 ONE OF THE REBS SAYS HEH GUYS LOOK ON UR RADAR SUDDENLY U SEE 3 OVERTS AND A FEW GROUP TEFERS COMING UR WAY.U TURN TAIL AND BURST RUN FOR BESTINE.THEY HOP ON THERE SWOOPS AND GET IN FRONT OF U U BLOW ONE SWOOP AND GIVE A GUY A MIND BLEED WITH A SS2 BEFOR GOIN DOWN.......BACKFIRED HUH.NOW I WOULD MUCH RATHER PREFER GOIN BESERK IN MY ST ARMOR AND SPAMING SS2 AND A FEW HEAD SHOT 3 TO GET GUYS DOWN LONGER THATS MY IDEA OF A FIGHT.U HEAD SHOT A FEW GUYS AND SPAM 3 SS2 AT THE INCOMING MELEES.THEY ALL GO DOWN AND THERES SOME FACTION.

THATS MY IDEA OF A SUCCESFUL FIGHT NOT THIS IM BIG BAD MISTER SNIPER WHO CAN BE PICKED UP BY A NOOBS RADAR.

(NOVICE BRAWLER COMES IN I SPAM A FEW HEADSHOTS AND MISS EVERY TIME....HOW CAN U MISS WHEN THE GUYS PRACTICLY ANT UR GUN BARREL

1. Rifleman appear to be built more on the sniper end because we have moves like take cover, but appears that most play it as a gunner since I do not think it allows enough range to allow sniping.

2. Rifleman as a profession should allow enough flexibiltiy to be either gunner or sniper.

I think we should haverifles designed more towards being more of a gunner fighter and others designed for sniping or maybe a sniper variation of every rifle by allowing the weaponsmiths to create a special sniper component to increase the range (distance at which we shoot) and do more damage but slow it down. Like a sniper rifle barrel or something to that extent. (I'm a weaponsmith too by the way =D).

I would also like to see faster(does less damage per hit alot less, but fast!)variations of rifles like automatic like a machine gune or something.

3. I would choose 100% Sniper since if we were Gunner, Rifleman would be no different than the other two combat classes other than having a crutch that we gotta stand 50 feet away to be accurate with any shot.

4. To be able to snipe better, we're going to need more range and better abilities to allow us to "hide" from enemies allowing us to snipe. Such as being cleared from radar.

5. If it was built on gunner, we won't need any more damage types. Out of thecombat professions (excluding Commando), rifles have the one of the most variation in damage types: Acid, Energy, Cold, Stun.
