Thread: Sneaky Sniper or Mr. Heavy Machine Gunner?

klawlegna,

I've said it before and I'll probably say it a hundred more times before this game reaches expansion phase. The main problem in general is radar. This covers ALL classes. Would we really be seeing any problems with our profession if we could hide? Nope, we'd be using conceal shot, and playing sniper. Would we worry about being a gunner? Nope, we'd take the risk of being a seen target with a heavy assault weapon.Would other classes rant about our ability to snipershot/headshot/bleed? More than likely, no. Radar is the main factor that causes so many problems.

Consider this: A tka attacks a rifle man, charging from 64m (naturally because he saw the rifleman on radar). Rifleman does what all rifleman do in this case....kites. Tka hurls insults because rifleman was out of range of the 20+m lunge. And we know the story. Either the rifleman gets stupid and dies because of kd dizzy. Or TKA gets stupid and keeps chasing a kiting rifleman in open field and dies.

Both of them shouldn't have even been on that level playing field.

Klawlegna the problem is that the professions cannot use their given talents correctly. As it stands it's simple "tab, spam, kill, tab, spam, kill." No tactics at all. It should be each class doing their SOE given skills. NO accursed radar. A tka sits in an ally and pounces someone walking by. A rifleman sits on a mountain in camo (made by our tailors thereby giving them an actual REASON to make different clothing), a pistoleer hides the back ofa cantina, etc. etc. etc. Everyone would have to think. If a person turns on their light (CTRL _L and yeah some people don't even know about it at master) they can see the said "sniper" in the dark.

I don't know, maybe I'm thinking too advanced for this game, but as it stands no one will ever be truely pacified until you get rid of simple red blip radar tabbing. It kills any fun. No hiding, no reason to hide behind hills, flank a city, take back allies, etc. /shrug

Instead of asking about should we be a sniper/gunner, consider WHY we're forced to ask such a question. What has forced us to even find ourselves lacking in either field.

/endrant

Sucky as your nickname comes I gave that to you long before I posted my warning to you on your Server forums

Still ATST's are worthless, so I exaggerated for once like you do all the time

Oh by the way, can't wait to see you ingame, your never gonna know who I am. I could be a newb asking you questions, or just some guy watching you in a cantina

When It's too late your gonna get DB'd

Oh and Gebus I've been flamed on the forums, who gives a rats arse nerf herder?

And I guees you do not recant your nerf herder ways, oh well. I shall draw you out of your server like poison from a wound(Sorry for the LOR quote)-The sad thing is no one, not your friends, not you, nor anyone else will know I'm anything more than a PVP'in reb.

The only sniper element i have come across in this tree is snipershot(which rocks) and conseal shot. Tofday my novice rifle friend and i took out about 4 npc atsts with food spice and conseal shot.

Wow...and you guys think that everything is all well and good.....interesting. "

This is how I know your not a real imp, any real imp knows anybody can take out an ATST. Commandos, pistoleers, riflemen, and carbineers all own ATST's. They suck bad, really bad.

Oh ya and my smuggler Character can take out Ancient Rancors with ease BTW.

Bleed+Feign Death

No, that's how I know you don't even play this **edit**ing game...you can't bleed an AT-ST, and pistols do about 300 damage at the most to AT-STs, they hardly ever miss (they hit maybe 1 out of 2 shots against the uber temploiters), no, pistoleers can't kill these things without a fire DOT on them.

Oh no...I'm afraid, so very afraid. lol, have fun A) finding me, and B) trying to level a character that won't get your ass handed to me. But glad you feel like you should waste your time on me, it won't change my mind about riflemen.

Hey all,

I know it's been a while since I posted in here, but I decided to post on this thread...

1. As our skill tree is set up now. Do you feel we are snipers or heavy gunners?

Depends on how you use your specials. I do mostly solo faction missions so I rarely use AOE attacks. Flurry 1 with my T21 will knock them on their butts and then tears Stormtroopers to bits. Basically, I snipe all of my targets

2. Do you feelwe should be leaning more towards heavygunners or snipers in our skill tree? Our should we balance them out more, keeping them both?

Heavy gunners are more like Commandos or Carbineers. Since rifles are generally characterized as slower ROF weapons with higher accuracy and damage, where do you think we should be at?

3. If you had to pick one or the other what would you want, 100% heavy gunner or 100% sniper?

Sniper

4. If the profession is built more on sniping, do you think we should have more range? What should we have?

TAKE US OFF THE DANG RADAR WHEN WE TAKE COVER! Range is good too. Although I can already see the exploit and consequent nerf of it so no better range. Think... faction turrets past a turrets range. Trust me kiddies... they will scream bloody murder about it. Improve the T21 slightly (max damage on a well made T21 should be around 500 and tighten up the min damage too).

5. If the profession is built more on gunner, do you think we should have more damage types? What should we have?

If we go gunner, I wanna see exploding rounds (blast), flechet rounds (better kinetic), throw out the 3 second ROF cap idea, better ROF for going prone, a weapon designed for high ROF and AOE that can only be used when prone (What was the gun that the Stormtroopers set up in the hangar Han Solo escaped from in Mos Eisley?), give us access to heavy particle beam cannons. Basically, a Melee fighters worst nightmare.

OVER ALL CHANGES I WOULD LIKE TO SEE:

-Make the T21 a little better

-Take out or reduce the 2.5x melee damage thing. Rifles aren't THAT unwieldy.

-REDUCED HAM COST! We use specials to kill but can't repair that damage because we lost our mind trying not to die. Don't use specials? We die becuase our weapons don't do 3K max at range. Sorry, it's reality!

I want to get some ideas on what to push and pass around to the devs for the weapon/combat balance if you can help me out a bit with your thoughts that would be great.
Right now the tree is basically set up for both heavy gunner and sniper (however unbalanced).
What are your thoughts on this? And if it was to be changed what do you think should be done?
1. As our skill tree is set up now. Do you feel we are snipers or heavy gunners?

We are primarily heavy gunners right now. Conceal shot adds an element of "sniping" to our capabilities.

2. Do you feel we should be leaning more towards heavy gunners or snipers in our skill tree? Our should we balance them out more, keeping them both?

A heavy gunner profession is possible to balance in PvP. A sniper profession, in my opinion, is not.

For PvE, a heavy gunner profession can have a reasonable power curve as you advance through the skillset. A sniper profession would be very difficult to implement in such a way that a player can gradually advance in skill. At any point, it would be hard to keep it from being either overpowerful, or far too vulnerable.

3. If you had to pick one or the other what would you want, 100% heavy gunner or 100% sniper?

100% heavy gunner.

4. If the profession is built more on sniping, do you think we should have more range? What should we have?

If rifleman turned into a sniper class, I think that increased range would be the only thing that could possibly keep us alive. I think that kiting problems with increased range could be solved by having a player run slower with a long range rifle equipped.

5. If the profession is built more on gunner, do you think we should have more damage types? What should we have?

I remember hearing at one point that the Tusken, Spraystick, and E11 were supposed to be kinetic, acid, and heat damage, respectively. I think that implementing those changes would be good, but isn't a particularly high priority for me.

1. As our skill tree is set up now. Do you feel we are snipers or heavy gunners?

We are both. Its more of how you are handling your current target. Are you Solo? Then more of a sniper. Are you grouped? Then your more of a Heavy Gunner. A clear advantage to this is the ability to switch to either Role at any time.

2. Do you feelwe should be leaning more towards heavygunners or snipers in our skill tree? Our should we balance them out more, keeping them both?

I feel that our class should keep them both, I know this goes against popular views. I enjoy rifleman because I have the skill set that allows me to do both with a hit a key. Prone and under cover, I can pick on single targets, If multiply targets attack because I failed to snipe I can kneel or stand and Play the Role of Heavy Gunner.

3. If you had to pick one or the other what would you want, 100% heavy gunner or 100% sniper?

Sorry but this is a loaded question, I refuse to yeild my headshot2 for my strafe2, nor will I give up heavy gunner to be a sniper. I'm a rifleman.

4. If the profession is built more on sniping, do you think we should have more range? What should we have?

Range would be nice, now exactly what range is the bigger issue. I'm saying this more from a technical aspect, not everyone has a state of the art video card, a gig of ram and a 2 gig cpu pumping data. I would hate to see a range boost of 20m or 30 m mean squat do to tech limits. Complain about CM's all you want. The current state of the engine has a long enough time updating lairs and static spawns yet alone 2 players riding head on with swoopbikes.

Now for what we should have , heck i can dream. A high damage high armor piercing Rifle to fill the role of the snipers weapon of choice.

5. If the profession is built more on gunner, do you think we should have more damage types? What should we have?

Damage types? Are we talking after current in games weapons get fixed? Are we talking new Weapons? I don't care about damage types, as the current Line up of weapons when fixed will provide a well rounded base. What matters to me is the speed at which my mind empties and my weapon speed.

IMHO, Both but depending on which weapon we are using... assuming we get new ones that are Sniper weapons, High range slow speed, high accuracy and damage. >100m , at 64m to 20m switch to Machine gunner, but need to switch weapons. T21??
