Agreed, rifles need to be able to shoot from further away.

In all honesty.. rifles should get 200m if you wanna be a little more realistic.. their accurate range should be 50-200 Meters.

Pistols, by the same token.. should be max range of 40..

On the Barrett .50 cal.. If I recall right, isnt their max range like 1 mile but it's **edit** near impossible because of something with the bullets being unable to actually go that far accurately? I'm not too sure about it..

Oh if you guys want an example of a .50 cal Barrett.. watch the movie Navy SEALs, with um.. Charlie Sheen? Their sniper uses one.. theres a scene where he blows a hole in a wall with it.

I agree that rifles should have a longer range, but here's the thing. If they ever increased the range, you know they would take something else away, like higher mind costs or slower rate of fire... something anyway. Or maybe make rifles more difficult for a weaponsmith to make ==> more expensive. Although you might argue, I think there is a good degree of balance between pistol/carbine/rifle... but the reason they're so balanced is that they're all the same. As soon as they start making the weapons drastically different from each other, there might be a whole lot more complaining.

But weapons AREdrastically different. You don't storm a house with a bolt-action and you don't hunt deer with a revolver. If you start borrowing advantages from each or removing themthere will be no reason to choose any one because they will all be nearly the same.

I don't have a problem with not being able to hit targets close up with a rfile, that's fine. But I simply CANNOT kill them from faraway and am forced to run while firing over my back. So what's the point of the rifle then?

I have already posted why this is impossible to do, but I'll repost it anyways:

On a players client, objects are loaded(or begin to load) when it's recognized between client and server at 128m. Due to lag(/gasp, Lag?), often times things won't load for players until much closer than 128m, I usually get my spawns at around 70-80m on a 1300 athlon with 512mb ram, connected on a t3(then again I play starsider). Sometimes I have gotten spawns within 60m or less even. So what's this all mean? It means thatgiving range extended beyond 64m(which is half the maximum viewdistance) would not only allow you to attack people outside of attack range, but outside of their actual VIEW range. Which direction do they go to fight a person they can't see? So while I believe rifles should have an advantage over pistols/carbines etc. in range, it's not logically possible to allow this unless every buys a supercomputer and a t4 connection.

As opposed to doing this, as has been pre-stated, reducing pistol and carbine max range would be alot more reasonable. On the same basis that melee range is set(3m?), different weapons should have DIFFERENT RANGES.

Please nerf TKA's! I just one hit incap'd myself again with knockdown!

I don't think that the longer range will be possible, due the AI thing i'm sure I read that somewhere else.

OTOH, what they can do is nerf the pistoleer accuracy and power beyond 30 M make as bad a sa rifle at close range. I think this will solve the problem(or at least diminish it)

Kalanth, I undestand that The Air Force have a different function than the Army, and I like the fact that you seem to be proud of being in the Air Force, but, I was in the Army for 8 years and I can guarantee you,I met people from all branches and I have to say that they are smart people in all branches, and the Air Force doesn't have particulary more intelligent people. I take offense on that comment that you made. I can understand between friends is pretty funny to make fun of the the jarheads, the seamen, the ground stompers and the flyboys, but the way you said you made it sound like you truly believe that. I hope you eventually get to know more people from other branches and you will realize that is just not true. If you don't believe I hope you make a post acknowleging it. I s just the right thing to do.

Tal-N, apparently you do not get it.

Sure, you have mobs on your radar at 120+ meter ranges. Big whoop - some people don't have the ability to RENDER those creatures (see them on their screen) until roughly 60ish meters. You really, really shouldn't talk about things with such an authorative voice if you are not an authority on it. With this computer, which thankfully I am upgrading finally, I use my settings on the lowest settings, just so that I don't have any little annoying hiccups. I CAN render things farther out, but if I go into a city, I have to turn the settings back down.

I am not going to bounce them up and down all the time just to hit something farther out than my lowest settings render distance.

Alright, as I'm heading out the door, here's an alternative to extending rifle range. Cap pistols at 20 meters and carbines at 40 meters. Rifles should and must out range the other weapons, its what they're for for crying out loud.

Some corections in my previous Gun talk:

Note sure what I was smoking, I had diffrent things going on as I typed.

The Longest Confermed Sniper kill was by Sgt. Carlos N. Hathcock II who had a 2,500 yard shot from a 50 cal. landmarking the longest shot ever documented.

6000m is abought the max efective range of the Browing .50 cal Machine Gun, the gun we all think of when some one says .50 cal. You see it on tanks and such all the time.

Sorry for the mix up.

Heya Wookie1985..

I think a Canadiansniper just got the record in Afghanistan last year. Either way they are both amazing shots.

Oh and i agree on the max range thing.. and we need sniper cammo too.

Do you guys realize that a shot of that distance is around 1.5 MILES?

And I think Carlos Hathcock has the longest confirmed iron sights shot. Don't know how far though.
