I saw your post and found it with a Google search. WOW!

All I got to say is booted for calling a CO a **edit**er? LOL we called our CO's **edit**ers all the time. It's called stress!!!!! Of cource our CO's called us more than that!

And yes, over 1 mile shots. It's damed amasing. I can't even see a frigging mile!

I thought of that as shocking to. Being that I work close at the Space Command HQ, I see a lot of Canadian Officers, and I always found them to be lax and relaxed individuals. I think the thing was that he did this after a stress debrief.

Ok i havent read all the posts here however I can say this:

While yes logically this makes some sense, first you have to consider game balance. If what you are suggesting is implemented the only fair and logical item to balance this is that you should NOT be able to shoot someone at all within 15-20 meter range.

Umm, we pretty much can't hit people inside that range anyhow. Though it might seem a little extreme, it porbably wouldn't make that much of a difference. I use a Sword as backupanyhow because the rifle is useless at close range.

I completely agree with all of this. I think that someone (maybe the thread starter) should email this request to our rifleman correspondant. Or at least try to make this a sticky... Maybe we could form it into some sort of petition.

"The Tac-50 was the weapon that a Canadian sniper used to make a record-setting 2,430-metre "kill" during combat in Afghanistan this year."

I also found an article of happyfunpundit.com that states that the U.S. military is giving the sniper (Master Cpl. Arron Perry) a bronze start, but the Canadian Military wants to give him a court martial for dissrespecting a superior officer.

Ilaxtrasia, I have my high detail range at around the 30m mark. Still there are monsters and lairs I can see n the distance even though alot of my settings are only 1/3 of the way up, hell I get issues with objects like trees and rocks blocking my targets when they aren't even visible to me yet cause they are outside the detail range. The fact is that mobs do appear as far out as 128m on radar and visually as well. People saying that the Ai doesn't support it really don't understand that you're not asking the sun for the AI to be tweaked so that they draw a traceline when damaged to where the attacker is and then move towards them. Hey, the game already allows for mobs to stalk you from over 130m, Tuskcats and Hermitspiders do this alot so it's not any different than if you attacked them from long range.

Ok then , by your logic then, you should be unable to fire a rifle when the target gets closer than 30M

yeah thatd work for me. O wait you probly wouldnt like that idea since it wouldnt ake you uber powerful.

I understand the technical difficulties as far as rendering goes makes it unlikely that rifles will get an increase to max range. However, 25 yards is a difficult shot for most people with pistols. That's aiming at a non-moving paper target that is not firing back at you and with as much time as needed to take the shot. True, great pistol marksmen can hit from distances muchgreater than that, and quickly, again though, at non moving targets. Most gunfights (pistols) on the street take place at ranges of 3 to 30 feet, and most of the rounds fired are misses. We had one cop on our department fire a whole clip at a suspect within ten feet of him and hit only once (they were moving laterally, in opposite directions). The suspect fired nine to ten rounds at the officer and did not hit at all (thankfully).

Realism and MMORPG's do not mix well..but, I think the pistoleer and any hybrid that uses pistol as a main weapon are getting a gravy train. Reducing the range on the pistol to 30 - 40 meters with accuracy penalties for anything over 20 meters would be, imo, completely acceptable.

On another note, our SWAT team has gone to the M4 and my National Guard infantry unit is getting some M4's (I think just for the Bradly Crews). In my opinion the M4 is much more of a Carbine than an actual rifle. I don't know the spec effective range on it, but I don't hit as well at range with them as I do with an M16A2, but it is much more accurate when firing at close (under 25 meters) ranges while on the move.
