As a rifleman CH I find it very hard to be effectice as a Rifleman already.
I have no extra mods, no skill dabbling for roots or other high damage shots, my pets cannot tank for me so EVERYTHING I shoot at ends up in melee distance.
A minimum range renders not only every single cave and dungeon out of bounds to me, but basically prevents me from going into combat solo.
Indeed, even in a group , because aggro management is so broken, un;ess the tank is spamming taunt permanently, I end up in melee with anything regardless. As I only have sniper/startel/headshot and kneecap shot to play with as a rifleman (Conceal is useless to me,impossible to use in a group,in and dungeon or in combination with my other profession as pets make the cover fail), Id like someone to explain what I would be expected to do , what special I would be intended to use to keep the mob out of my minimum range.
if a min range is put in, rifles will HAVE to have a root attack to keep mobs from entering that minimum range. If not, the game will be simply unplayable for me.

TC notes say 20m min range on snipershot.. alright, leave it that way and don't complain about. Lets run with it like s-o-b's:
"This is our best shot and its got a minimum range on it, we should be balanced now"
It doesn't really change anything that badly (no one I know uses snipershot within 20m, the windup + accuracy problem at that range is suicide to do) but maybe we can use it for some type of defense to prevent MORE nerfs. I also think the laser should get certed to master rifle (nerfing it is unfair to those of us that spent time getting a good ALR, if I had wanted I could have spent 200k or so more and gotten a T-21, if it's nerfed I spent a lot of money on something that would be useless, plus t-21s look awful as far as rifles go)
Anyways, lets take our "nerf" and run with it and use it to defend ourselves. Like the other posters have said if they're going to nerf our damage (which is our only purpose) then all the other professions should have their roles nerfed, ie. Root Recovery, Defense vs Posture changes, etc. I don't mind the accuracy changes at close range, I can always go and hunt some krayts and get a badass pistol made a lot easier then a badass rifle but I think enough is enough. Point out to them Acke that our role is Damage Dealing: 5 again because this this just plain stupid. I'm not willing to accept any of the proposed "solutions" you listed really so what do you guys all thing about running with this "nerf" to snipershot on TC?
they were not referring only to snipershot though.... if they do that to snipershot and that is the end of it - well and good. But they were talking much much more for min ranges.

Oh I know they probably werent refering to just that on the correspondant forums and what not as the only change, but you tell them it enough they'll start to believe thats all they had in mind. Smile and say that our "most powerful" attack has a min range on it and tell em our power has been significantly lowered because of it and ask em to rethink any more nerfs. Maybe it'll stop em from screwing us over, if not it should stall em from doing so for awhile atleast. Just do your best, continue to point out dungeons make the minimum range changes would bar us from accessing content that everyone else would be able to access. Please also point out with even a moderate amount of healing power you can take out a rifleman that has none with little to no problem at all. Point out that we only have good damage if we pick up other things to give us more specials, point out that doing so we make it so we can't take any healing which would easily counter our damage ESPICALLY with the changes on TC to healing. TBH, if I think if you give them any ground at all they'll screw us 20 ways over within the next month. Heck, look what happened to Jedi when they didn't stick up among themselves. Continue to also point out that carbineers easily out damage us in a single profession vs profession basis and that they can pick up the same things we have to increase their damage output to beyond what we can do and that the only thing we truely have going for us is our range and not our damage. As MR, MBH, 0404 Pistoleer I fought a TK/Doc with some swordsman and we kept at each other for 20 minutes straight and couldnt kill each other. So obviously, we can be countered and if either of us had screwed up in that 20 minute battle that person would have died. Isn't that the way PVP is supposed to be? Rock, paper, scisscors style? If they're going to complain about what little we have going for us when we combine professions to make a good template you need to complain about what they have or will be getting such as: smuggler/commandos ability to AoE mez if concussion shot is changed, their ability to make our damage output to below their with debuffs, their ability to stick a DOT on us and run off letting the dots do all the work. To top that off I think you need to tell them to learn how to fight and offer ways to counter rifleman's strengths, drop a couple debuffs on us then pop behind a wall for God's sake! We're debuffed at that point and have to come in after them where we lose all advantage and are actually HINDERED because of our accuracy loss and such. Fight the good fight and if we are nerfed then we'll know you did your best and thats all ANY of us can ask and hope for.

Meh. Paragraphs are overrated and I had to go cook food while I was writing it.

The major imbalance is coming from cross profession abilities. I.E.: Using a root shot or knockdown with a rifle at over 65 meters....
I suggest imposing a temporary debuff in characters using cross profession skills while using a rifle. Some form of hindering rate of fire or movement modifier.

How bout this, other then perhaps BH skills you use the accuracy you have for that specific profession to use the special? So if I use pistoleers root I have to use my modfied pistol accuracy for it. Trying to use a root with that type of accuracy at close range would probably be pretty hard to do.

All I would ask is that the devs learn from their past mistakes. Virtually every BIG change they have made has been the source of a raft of new problems, bugs, and unforeseen consequences.
Take a cue from a classic Rifleman's line in The Patriot: "Aim small, miss small."
Make your changes gradually and take time to evaluate their impact. Over-nerfing and then ignoring the over-nerfed systems for 6-12 months has been a trademark failing in this project. Learn from your mistakes, and avoid repeating them.

But that wouldn't be right either. You'd have to apply the debuff to *all* cross profession usage of specials, or else it's just a rifle nerf and nothing else. And even so, instead of people using rifles at over 65 meters, people would use the long range carbines and pistols at these ranges.

well, we got minimum range on sniper shot. you have to be 20meters or over. hopefully that is the extent of the nerfage.

Well, that and the automatic targeting on hit thing... Should make cover and concealed shooting alot less efficient in PvP.

So, I have a chance for 2 at most snipershots before my target is within my min range in PvE, even using kneecap shot.
Then all I have is headshot and startle shot.
that is 2 specials I can use, from a whole 140 points or whatever it is profession.(Im a CH, so I have no other specials to call on)
That doesnt seem very good, given that headshot is less powerful than crit or leg shot, and those professions also get states and area attacks. they are also not rated 5 in offence.
I am....
