You could shoot down the barrel of a tank with a .50 bmg.
At one mile the bullett drops less than 10 inches.

It's a game based on real physics, with some science-fiction stacked on top. Quit your whining kid.

Close, and basicly right:

The St Petersburg Declaration of 1868 banned the use of bullets that explode on impact with the human body, and this was the basis of the legal notion of “superfluous injury or unnecessary suffering.”1 In the 1890s concern mounted about the effects on human beings of other bullets, including British dumdum bullets. This concern opened a debate about, on the one hand, the effectiveness of bullets or their stopping power and, on the other hand, how much injury civilised nations should inflict on their enemies.2–5 As a result, in the Hague Declaration of 1899, the contracting parties agreed “to abstain from the use of bullets which expand or flatten easily in the human body, such as bullets with a hard envelope which does not entirely cover the core or is pierced with incisions.” (Such bullets now have various names such as expanding, soft-point, and hunting; they are best referred to collectively as semi-jacket bullets.) Since then, all military bullets have been covered by a full metal jacket, an example of successful international legislation.

The catch is the U.S. Congress never ratified this, so in esence the U.S. is not bound by it, but dose follow it, lossly.

As for the rest... /shrug

I've know some snipers, Rangers, Tankers, and a whole lot of wnabee's. I've served, never shot any one thank god, but put my time doing the job.

SOunds like the military logic of a Dolf Lundgren movie at best.Being that this is as you put it a GAME and not REAL, your " Real Life" experiences on a " Battle Field" have no bearing here.

The sniper from Vietnam you are refering to is Carlos Hathcock. you can read about him in the book Maine Sniper: 93 confirmed Kills. You'll enjoy the part about him holding up an entire NVA battalion for three days. his actions kept the enemy pinned doen and leaderless resulting in one of the most memorable sniper feats ener recorded

"You could shoot down the barrel of a tank with a .50 bmg.

Assuming that you're zeroed at 1000 yards, the bullet drops will be:

At a MV of 2750 fps the Hornady ballistic tables show that the ME of their 750 grain A-Max bullet is 12,592 ft. lbs. At 1000 yards the remaining energy is 6357 ft. lbs. The trajectory of that load from a rifle with a low mounted scope looks like this: +25.3" at 100 yards, +47.2" at 200 yards, +74.9" at 400 yards, 0 at 1000 yards, and -225.6" at 1400 yards.

Where do you get 10" drop from? A bullet drops 32 feet/(sec*sec). No rifle/cartridge combination in the world will let the bullet travel from 0 to 1000 yards with just a 10" drop. The bullet drops 75 inches between 400 and 1000 yards.

Just as figured from reading yourpost you guys havn't served...Most tanks barells are lowered for travel or after moving forward and coming to a stop (doh) Standing down range from a tank that was fixing to fire would be nuts. But, a tank that has just stopped its forward progress and sitting idle is a prime target..and in case you hadn't noticed a barrel of a tank is no bigger than a person head that all you professional snipers talk about shooting. as far as the Swiss army is concerned they noted as being some of the best long range shooters in the biz...surprise for the clueless Switzeralnd does have an elite core of troops. And far as the tanks you are talking about We are talking Irags tanks of Desert storm not our own where optics is measure by how good your binoculars are as far as traveling in groups most of tanks we were taking out are refered to as stage tanks placed there for looks to make approaching forces think you have a froce to recon with I have seen 15 tanks with less than 30 combantants manning them go from tank to tank to set them up for their shot. A good portion of Iraq's tanks were already non-mobile so to out run them walk....a good portion of the tanks the turrents were not even opperational...guys to compare what you know of tanks (American) version compared to what others forces have or use isnt possible.

Weel I did server specialist.

If you made that shot.. then my god man.. I wish I could have been there.

What was your range ?

Did you ever read about/hear about the sniper in vietnam, was dueling a vietnamese sniper, who got his spotter. Turned fired at the glint and the round when right through the scope of the veitnamese snipers rifle. It's all documented. Now that was a shot, if he could do that I guess you could put one down atank muzzle.

You had some big ones to do it though man ..

I am former USMC but i was niether a Sniper of in the Infantry. I had a nice desk job where I managed the Banyan vines network for my battallion. In the US marines everyone had to go through the same bootcamp (think full metal jacket) and qualify each year on the rifle range regardless of your MOS.

We had to shoot at targets at up to 500 yards with our M16 rifle. The thing is in order to hit the target from this far "reliably" we had to be in the prone position with muscle and bone support on the weopon and the sling wrapped around our arm for extra support. There is NOWAY I could have been running and able to hit a target at 500 yards away, even standing up whilein a stationary positionwould have made it ALOT harder. There also is a reason that pistols do not qualify on the same range as rifles did in the usmc, they are FAR less accurate then a rifle is at longer range.

So what im saying is if they wanted to be realistic about rifleman in this game, they couldgive us more range then the pistol users but force us to be in a covered/prone position inorder to shoot further then 64 meters. I also think they should make the pistols less accurate from 40-64 meters.

my daddy was a sniper and he says he shoots things alot and then they get hurt and then there was this one time when he said that there was a big tank and he shot it and it exploded inside the stuff but then he told me he was a liar because if he shot a tank round it would most likely explode primarily outwards as simple thermodynamics would dictate and not in to the tank and kill all these people then he told me that i dont need to learn how to write because i write as good as any army sniper such as this guy on this star wars game thing that writes one big run on sentence.

SERIOUSLY PEOPLE! NO ONE WILL BELIEVE YOU OVER THE FREAKING INTERNET, THIS IS A MESSAGE BOARD... IF THE MUSSOLINI HIMSELF PUT A POST ON HERE AND SIGNED HIS NAME, NOT A SINGLE PERSON WOULD BELIEVE IT WAS HIM (ignoring the whole death thing). You're not a sniper. You're a fat 12 year old kid who reads war novels and thinks he can make stuff up that sounds like it. What person EVER dreams up shooting down the barrel of a tank except a child or a movie director? Congratualtions, you can make crap up to make youself seem above everyone else. Congratulations, you're no better than the whining a**holes on every other board.

You're a tool, get over yourself.

"I'm a sniper" ahahahahahahahahahahahaha - and my grandma is really Buzz Aldrin.
