OK. for all you civilians out there that keep saying this and that. The Geneva Convention has made it clear that a Sniper or military personel can not use a .50 on enemy combatants and only used on equipment. When I was in Desert Storm many of tanks as well as enemy combatants where taken out with our slow deadly accurate .50rifle. Lets make something clear we never at least the 11 me I was in charge ever shot a single person with our rifles. I do know for a fact I shot several combantants head wear or uniforms with these rifle that they just happen to be wearing at the time. So all you people that say in real life we are not allowed to shoot an enemy with the .50 rifle just remember I never aimed for the enemy just the equipment he was wearing. While we are on the subject a .50 caliber bullet going through the barrel of a tank will cause that tank to explode from with in since most tanks are armed you simply cause their round to blow themselves up. As far as high ham cost is concerned if cover works or any other hiding/stealth technicues HAM should be a worry we should be able to incapt/kill someone in real life with one or two shots without being noticed. Thats shooting once every 2 to 5 minutes tops. Most of the time it's fire once and Ghost. wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait BANG!!! wait wait wait ect. It is very tiring on the mind in real life as well. Please keep in mind in all games the first thing is to have fun if your not having fun in SWG change professions. I know their is about 6 times the combination out there that people have yet to discover or try just wait till that Chef serves you a poison containing pie as a covert opperative and out of the blue you start to lose health and dont know why. THat creature handler forget to give you that last command which is something to the effect of attack master....GUys lets just have fun. The new stats maybe not the best nor the worse but hey I carried a pistol the whole time I was active in the service and to think of it NEVER once carried my rifle into town.....see you on the battlefield enjoy life when you come close to losing it like i have the little things like this GAME dont really matter.

I have serious doubts with regards to your claim that you are a 'real-life sniper' as you put it. The geneva convention does not contain any reference to high calibre weapons and their use against personnel. This is an urban myth.

.50cal SLAP rounds will not defeat modern MBT armour.. they are able to penertrate around 1" of RHA.. and to suggest that snipers are trained to fire bullets down tank barrels is laughable.

Also im pretty sure most snipers have a better grasp of literacy than you have shown in your post.

As a sniper whats your job description code in the table of organisation? i presume youre in the American army.

I'm guessing that you guys that laugh at this post have never actually served in the Army or any other branch of the military. Literacy is not a requirment. Having been an MP for 4 years, I was surrounded by the biggest bunch of thugs and rednecks I have ever known. However, each and every one of them would put their life on the line for the soldier next to them.

You are correct, a .50 cal round will not penetrate most tank armor. However, if you read his post, he is not saying that it will. He is stating that it will penetrate the HE round that is loaded in the tank.

Also, he is not saying that they are trained to fire down the barrel of a tank, just that it is possible. If anyone doubts that a trained sniper is capable of doing this, you are sadly mistaken and I suggest you join up, do something worthwhile for your country, and attempt to pass the sniper course before you laugh.

I also went throught the army sniper school and was a scout.

It's true.. you are not supposed to use heavy caliber weapons against personnel, only equipment and vehicles. This includes the .50 . (At least this is what you are told, I , personelly have never read the entire geneva convention.) We would joke about shooting at their canteens.

I only got to shoot the Barret once, it was new while I was in. I was issued a M-14 with a scope. I loved my rifle.

As far as shooting down the barrel of a tank .. would be an awesome shot. I wouldnt' try it personally myself.

Yes, as far as literacy in the army, well there is a reason the claymore minds have "This side towards enemy" stamped on them and the law rockets told you which end to point towards the enemy too.

The problem with shooting down the barrel of a tank is that it means the barrel is pointed directly at you, which in the inner circles of military planning is largely regarded as a poor tactical position.

You'd have to be fairly close, too. Tanks don't usually elevate their main guns at the same angle that a long range .50 shot falling out of the sky would have. In order to have a flat trajectory shot against a tank, you'd DEFINITELY be well-within visual range of an alert crew (less than 600 yards). You'd expect the sniper to go for a mobility kill against the tracks or shoot the targeting optics, if they're vulnerable, since they're easier shots and they'd be able to engage from a longer distance.

Either way, the ground effect from a Barret M-82 is going to scream "SNIPER OVER HERE!!!" to every swinging richard within 2 miles. No sniper can outrun a tank or an artillery barrage.

Coupled with the fact that tanks are very rarely operating alone, without support, it seems like a great way to win a posthumous medal. Takes guts to be a Scout/Sniper overwatching an enemy armored column--especially with the proliferation of thermal optics. Those dudes have cajones made of stuff that would cut steel like warm butter. My hats off to 'em.
