Thread: +10 Ranged Distance
I was always under the impression that the maximum range they could do in the game was around 64m, but obviously this shows that it can be extended slightly. I'd love to see this remain in the game. If it doesn't then it simply needs to be removed from the game (Ackehece, you probably understand why, it'd be game-breaking for Riflemen).
I still don't get why they'd add the mob, create the code for it to work, but it not be intended. I can see it not being intended to shoot over 75m though (since the melee arm, I'm guessing, should not stack with the ranged one).

Thunderheart believes it is unintended....
He use to be a great addition to the SOE/SWG team till he started talking out of his arse.
Thunderhearts job is not an easy one... and attitudes like yours do not help. He does not lie - he just sometimes is superseded by circumstances and his information becomes invalid.

The idea was that rifleman - without enhancements - would shoot the furthest in the game. If it worked consistently rifleman would been able to shoot at 128m and pistoleers could extend their reach with the borg-arms to 45m but at an extreme cost in accuracy(current penalty is to lowand arms are not really supposed to stack either from what I gather). We also wouldhave receiveda min range to compensate for the increased range so that we would not dominate in all fights.
This of course is my understanding of what was going on... It is mostly supposition so do not take the above as gospel.

If I had to make a guess...When they tried to extend the range originally, they ran into problems in the high end (128m). However, ~80-85m was doable, hence why the arms work.
It makes for a very nice bonus. It's a good tradeoff. You loose a armor slot, plus negative defense bonuses. It also does you no good if someone/somethingends up right on top of you. Personal opinion; it's honestly not that usefull for 35m weapons (pistols/heavy weapons) as you'll be in close combat and you'll usually feel the defense penalty.

Good to know about that out of range bug. I was a little peeved today when I only saw 65m. Also, can you use any special past 65m or are you stuck with the cypersnipe special? I was a little surprised that the new special does minimal damage, but it does seem to snare MOBs.
Root/Snare at the extended range is a good tactic, since it will give you a little extra time to get some shots in before the target closes with you. So long as it doesn't glitch and pop right on top of you.
I wouldn't trust anything Thunderheart says about... Well, anything. The guy is astoundingly ignorant of even some of the most basic concepts in the game and to this day, I'm still baffled he was promoted. There was a prime example on the forums of this, but in a startling turn of events, that post no longer exists.
(Disclaimer: That is not a troll, nor a flame, nor abusive. It is an irrefutable statement of fact. The point is relevant to the conversation and as such, should not be deleted.)
Unless and until a real developer comes to tell us it isn't intended, or unless/until it appears in the patch notes, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Don't go spending 5mill on an arm or anything, though.
I used to have negative feelings towards TH, but then long ago, when I used toflame SOE really bad,I learnedthat, that, is TH's position, to be flamed.
He is the guy who absorbs blame for everything that goes wrong with SWG. What is he really though? Just a PR guy, not a game developer and not the guy who makes all the decisions. PR guys are the crap magnets for companies, they take all the negative feedback and are told to say whatever the company wants them tosay.

Wasn't it said that they wanted to break the 64m range limit with advanced skills and/or stuff?
EDIT - Nevermind; Ackehece answered that a couple of posts later.

Why do I need a fake arm to shoot farther? Isn't it the gun that is responsible for that? Maybe my eyesight?
Just another dumb addition to an already unusually unrealistic combat system trying to live within the parameters of science fiction but adhering to the concept of fantasy.
PS I am glad we can shoot farther but it is like going by your elbow to get to your ....
