Ok I just got master rifleman.

My question is: How do you guys cope with high weapon costs?

To keep the thread on track after my rant (please forgive me for that, 6am and no coffe make me intolerant of whining).

Smooth, I've had good luck with BE'd vasarian brandy (+441 toall mind, 49 filling, 39 minutes)and Ahrisa (+222Fcs,32 filling, 36 minutes)on Chilastra. I can take 3 ahrisa and 2 brandy at once. By the time they wear out the stomack is ready for another batch. In addition, I've migrated all of my stats to mind and its secondaries. As a T'wilek i'm at 1100/500/500 which with brandy and ahrisa goes to 1982/2048/1982 for at least 30 minutes.

I use T21 or Laser with mind ham of around 80-90 and hopped up on food my SS2 costs are around 2 mind. Basically anything below 40-50 per shot at that level is "free" due to high regen rate.I quit using spice after the chef revamp. The downer and duration don't makeit a worthwile proposition. I also get doc buffs in lieu of armor for PvE. 10k seems to be average price on Chilastra for 1000+ buff in HA stats.Low enogh price to pay for practical invulnerability for a couple of hours.

See my reply to harp00n and find a thread about making money as rifleman from last week or so. If you plan your hunts, food and buffs become very practical because you're not wasting them on aimlessly wandering around. You can also look intoa harvesting business on the side or renting out your building slots. This way you'll have asteady source of petty cash for food and buffs.

Welcome to the club and feel free to drop me a tell on Chilastra.

what is amusing is that the nerf criers never mention that we cant even shoot without buffs / drugs /food/ and lap dances.

no other profession has such high ham costs

To be fair, that is only partly true, Kistar. Good PowerHammers typically have a Health cost of 115, and using my 2H Sword or Cleaver drills my action hard, though not as bad. So at least Swordsman has similar HAM costs. The difference, and most importantly so, is that no other profession has both high HAM costs AND draws their highestcostsfrom the infamous unhealable pool. That is, despite the high HAM costs of my PH, I can heal the majority of the HAM costs with stims. Since our highest costs come out of mind, we do not have that option. A CM can heal us, but only at the cost of mind wounds to himself. We can eat foods or drink drinks, but once your stomach is filled, you are stuck with what you have. You can take spice, but you can only have one spicerunning at a time. So you just cannot sustain heals to mind, and that is the difference.

I think Harpoons biggest problem is he wants to be powerful like the rest of us masters long before he even bothers to master. Last time he posted his tree he wasn't even halfway there (for the record 3333 is halfway there exp wise). To Harpoon, finish your grind to master, then see how things change, if you can't figure it out after that, pick a class with lower HAM costs so you can deal with it. To all the other masters, with great power comes great responsiblity, or in our case great cost. PvP and non mission grinding PvE encounters will be a financial burden on you if you want to maintain your rate of fire. You will have to spend a portion of your time on adventure planets grinding 10k+ missions for hours on end to provide the cash to pay for your food, buffs, and armor. This is a fact of rifleman life. Also in addition to having to grind missions, you will probably want to do them solo so you can make money faster. So it gets really boring really fast.

Other classes can grind thier way to master then only grind missions for cash every once in a while. Rifle requires constant maintanence to keep us going, so our grind continues long after we master.

Is there any combination of professions that makes the Rifleman more 'self sufficient'? --to reduce cash and extra grinding time required for upkeep of the class (buffs, food, armor).

And since many of you have experience with other professions: which are the least costly combat professions available?

I would prefer to make a combat oriented character that is simple to maintain even if it means not going with the Rifleman profession.

With that said, I only play PvE so that may make a difference in your comments.

Thank you so much!

TKM is probably the most self-sufficient, cheapest class once you reach master. You'll never need wound healing of any sort, or healing for poison, disease, etc. You won't need any weapons unless you want to do extra damage, and you really won't need armor, at least against critters, because of high toughness and damage mitigation. Really, every combat class could be said to need buffs. It all depends on how much downtime you're willing to tolerate otherwise.

Thanks for the tips guys!

Money I sorted out by taking down the weapons place on naboo (looted holocron and some other stuff).
So I went and bought some brandy and its pretty good. I also had a look through my old rifles and one of the lasers has only 45 mind cost and 20-something HA (8.0 speed so at the time it was too slow)
With buffs I went to dathomir just for fun and wiped out a load of rancors. Fantastic.

Good tips. Made a big difference

As stated before, buffs are the key to making us effective.

Therakus, though I agree it's easy to make money the REAL problem I think is the fact that we NEED to be buffed to be effective. Hence the revamp.

I know chefs/docs need a reason to exist, but I think there's a problem when you have to buy buffs to do anything combat productive.

Look at PVP for example. It's not based on who's reeeealllly skilled or not. Simply templates and buffs. With HAM costs on rifle so high (and the unhealable pool) it creates a dependence that shouldn't be needed, but instead should be an an option that will assist, not control what you do.

There you go.

ok, against my better judgement a few comments...

Melee guys have to buy buffs too.

If you can harvest (having any bits of Scout you need for that) meat/hide/bones and are on Eclipse, contact me and on top of that mission exp I'll buy the harvest off of you

Got a whole PA doing this and I made several of them rich this way. I don't do too bad myself .

sex drugs and rock'n'roll as they say about our profession

dancers, muscian buffs + acholol and drugs = Huge mind and low cost while firing

migrate all stats to mind stats

then get doc buffs for everything else... you then can spam (until combat pass) till your heart is content or your target is dead

Well ifPvP is what you consider fun then yes it is. If it isn't what you consider fun then why are you complaining about what other people do for fun? Also...how hard is it to get 20k? I could get that much in 10 minutes shuttle allowing.
