I've heard a lot of talk about Rifle/BH with commando or pistoleer thrown in. Dunno how effective it will be yet.
That is what I am planning to have. MBH+MRM + some pistoleer (intimidate shot + some more). Pistoleer has some fun specials

From everything I've read, it seems the defenses revolve around whatever you have equipped. So say, if you're a TKM Rifleman your TKM unarmed defense and TKM 'built-in-armour' will not apply if you have a rifle or any other weapon that isnt a VK out. Only generic melee defense mods would work, and if you want those go with BH since the duelists stances seem to be the king of all def now

I am gonna be keeping the Master Rifles/Master Commando/FS template I currently have.
However, I have been eyeing Mrifles/MCH/medic. When you got pets to tank for you... you don't need defenses
.
If they fix ranger I will go back to ranger. It was my first love.

Fortunately I can state that TKM defences will apply as long as you do not wear armor. They will not be weapon specific - just armor specific.

With the new level cert for weapons is there even a reason for going Rifleman/commando? Commando's don't have specials, they are attached to the weapons, so if we qualify to use a flame thrower at level 40 or whatever, won't all the flame thrower specials be available to us as well? We might not have the accuracy and speed of a master commando, but we can pick up a ton of general speed and accuracy from other profesions and be almost as good.
I know the Commando's are probably in an uproar about this new weapon cert thing, but how does it effect us? Are there going to be a bunch of pistoleers running around with our best rifles without having to have 1 box in rifles and be as effective as us? I guess I'm wondering if it is the Rifle that makes the Rifleman or is it the specials we can use and the roll we fill that make us riflemen/women?

Ive always liked commando, its just not worth completing 5 branches in 2 types of combat classes to get. I think commando is on the top of my current list with CH in close second.

"I've already dropped Ranger due to reading that they are capped at 1k HAM as they're not going to be considered a Combat profession"
Why? Where did you read that? They were NEVER capped at 1k health. Until 2 days ago Rangers were capped at around 2k. But that has changed. devs told everyone in the chat that Scout/Ranger boxes will now count toward the added Health like the Combat boxes do...
I for one will be staying Master Ranger/Master Rifleman. Because with the new needs fr more resources for things and the fact that so many people are dropping Ranger we will be making even more money

In testing CU today though Melee and range defense go down when equipping other professions weapons.
For example, I have a 1011 TKA with Offense speed/accuracy of 50/95 & Defense of Melee/Ranged 85/80 unarmed. Equipping a curved sword drops it to 10/25/55/50, Katana or 2 handed sword 35/75/85/80, lance 25/55/75/70.
Interestingly equipping massassi knucklers or VKs drops it to 10/25/55/50 like a fencer weapon so this is in lin ewith the bug that TK weapons giving 1 handed experience.
So is the drop in defences a bug or intentional?
