The good thing about adding a speed cap, is it would make it easier to bring rifle power level into a curve like other weapons.
Right now, rifle pretty much sucks before 1000 or 0100 (and was really horrid in marksman land when we had the 2.5x), gets a _huge_ jump at 0030, and is only really complete with the speed bonus at master.
While its cool to have a 'no dabblers allowed' profession ... it would be nice to smooth that out a little.
That said though, if they speed cap us (and presumably carbines and heavy weapons) ... they'll need to look very very carefully at the resulting DPS accross weapon types.
In PvP a pistoleer is absolutely useless while a rifleman shines (massive mind bleeds and mind shots!).
This is a good class and since warping seems to be mostly fixed, it's really fun to play. I'm only 1100 so far, but can take out enemies almot as easily as my master pistoleer (although perhaps not as fast).
For example I solo'd a novice force mystic (I know, easy for a FS NPC, but still 11k ham and decently armored) - he didn't even see me and didn't attack me once (I was sitting at about 62m sniping him and not missing a shot).
So before ranting about how there has to be damage caps and how riflemen need to do more damage etc - realize how powerful you already are. Against multiple enemies or even single enemies (talking NPC's here) a rifleman can easily outdamage just about any class in the game, including commandos (slow damage, a lot relies on dot, high chance of missing) and TKA's (they deal a lot of damage, but only kinetic AP1 and not multiple targets). A master pistoleer has no chance in hell to even come close to outdamage a rifleman.
As a matter of fact, while hunting imp npc's in the Naboo imp base, a group consisting of a master pistoleer, a master tka, and two others with decent damage skills only outdamaged the SINGLE rifleman (hello Gauban!) if he 1) happened to miss, 2) was far away from the spawn and didn't get there in time.
Finally let me let me tell you how nice of a weapon the underused spraystick is (at least for the noob rifleman). Every time something gets close to me, I switch to this "rifle". Also to end this long message - one thing I noticed is how nice the variety of weapons are for riflemen. A pistoleer basically only has 2-3 weapons worth considering, with the currently best weapon being one anyone can use (republic blaster).
While rifle isin a VERY good place right now,one thing I always see people forgetting is that we use mind for specials.
This is a massive disadvantage, and while it can be lessend by the use of food and/or muon it's always going to mean rifle has added downtime over other professions.
personally, I don't see us needing more dmg.
maybe adjusting the ham costs on a few things - but not more dmg.
I honestly can't understand how anyone can play a rifle toon with less than 1100 focus - and i know a lot of people do, so in that regard, yeah, ham costs are an issue.
dmg, IMO - we're fine for dmg.
give us an Acid Spraystick, a Kinetic Tusken Rifle, fix Block - and i'll be one hell of a happy camper.
icing on the cake would be to convert surprise or startleshot2 to be high-dmg random pool single target attacks.
thas it, that's all i want for christmas.
Uh I wasn't asking for less HAM costs, as long as they leave muon / mind secondary food alone it's fine imo.

Fix damage types on guns, block and change startleshot2 to a single target 5x damage attack and I'll be a very happy bunny. ![]()
How anyone could call rifleman gimped with the 2.5x melee penalty gone is beyond me.
I don't think we need more damage NOW, however if the 3 second speed cap goes in I would expect to receive some form of damage boost.

i've got no problem with ham costs either, but i'm a human with max'd focus. (and 800 mind). i'm a total addict and buff fiend though, but i don't mind that.
and as we both say , we don't need more dmg. that's for sure.

Pistoleer has broken health targeted shots (broken in that bodyshot 1 in general is the highest damage targeted shot, and that's a marksman level special), while riflemen has three mind targeted shots that actually have sane time/dmg modifiers.
Quit talking about speed caps. I dont know where this rumor started but the more we talk about it the more the DEVils are gonna think about it. we are fine how we are right now. dontsay anything
with a t21 we can outdamage anyone in the game while firing at the speed cap if you are master with an rifle 5.0 speed and below. the devs dont need to change a thing about our profession...
