Thread: New riflemen correspondent:
Ooohhh.... VolstedDude!
I missed your post and forgot about you! **edit** I'm sorry! I know you are also a student of the profession and highly involved with the forums. Starting to get too many possibilities here! Crap. I personally think you would also make a great correspondent!
So if i have to make a decision now, probably...
1. VolstedG or Seflyn
2. GDM or Noules
3. Who else have I forgotten about???
You've got my vote seflyn. Now just slide the envelope under my PA hall's ![]()
Fixing the warping is fixing the 2.5x problem in my eyes. What I wanted was a hiatus from the modifier, similiar to not having to insure items since they can't fix that but whatever works best. Enjoy the soapbox. It's funny riflemen and pistoleers are at each others throats again and both are getting new correspondents...SOE isn't connected with the Teamsters is it?
The 2.5 damage modifier wouldn't be as much of an issue if the warping issue and our skills worked. If we can get both issues worked on then a mob has less of a chance of closing in on us and inflicting massive damage.
Good Luck Selfyn.
I like VolstedGridban.
I would not have a problem with Seflyn or SilverLobo also.

I'm flattered by the nomination and thank you for it. My main reservation is my difference of opinion with a lot of riflemen on the 2.5x melee penalty. The only other problem I can see is that I'm not very impressed with SOEs ability to fix longstanding and game breaking bugs, which I often make a point of expressing in my posts.
I think my main issue if I were tobe made correspondentwould be for mob warping to be fixed. This just makes the 2.5x melee penalty too much in PvE, however without warping I think the amount of people wanting to remove the 2.5x melee penalty would be reduced.
If people would be unhappy with this I would rather know now so I don't apply rather than find out in a months time that I'm on a totally different wavelength to most riflemen.
Other than these concernsI'm now thinking of applying for the position, thanks to the posts here.
Mob warping isn't a rifleman issue. The correspondent should work to solve class problems. I know it affects riflemen mainly, however it isn't the rifleman class problm.
And "your main issue" doesn't matter ifyou become 'correspondent', but the rifleman community issues. ![]()
I can think of these class-breaking problems:
- HAM costs. Mainly mind cost.
- Focus and Willpowerand buffs. Doctors can't buff focus and willpower, and expecting to have a musician in battlefield is not realistic. This problem affects riflemen mostly.
- 2.5x Melee penalty, well i could live with it if they reduce HAM costs, so i can spam specials before mobs get tome. However theytold usthat they reduce the penalty for rifles, so i would wait and see what happens.
- All our good weapons do Energy damage. I hate it when i'm with a group killing high level nightsisters.

- Take Cover should work much better. Atm almost nobody use it.
- We need a special that damages health pool to make rifleman class more group friendly.
Andthere is alot more to work on.
I don't know how it works either
, what seems to happen (and work)in other forums iseveryone poststheir top 10 and then it gets passedon to the Devs.
However I was basing my thingy on this: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=rifleman&message.id=16039
In my mind fixing warping is the issue that would help the greatest number of riflemen, from novices to masters from PvEers to PvPers. I understand what you're saying about it not being a rifleman issue, but I see little point in them reducing the HAM costs for instance, when people get no time to use their HAM because a mob warps next to them.
But if a lot of people disagree with this then I won't apply, I honestly would rather not bother going for it if I'm just going to annoy the rest of the profession.
Agreed on the forums, this is the second time I've written this post, and I'm sure the first time was better. ![]()
Of course I would like this issue to not be treated like a Rifleman issue but as Seflyn said, I don't think it will be fixed unless it becomes a Rifleman issue.
Fact that it is not really a Rifleman issue should be reason enough for the devs to fix two of our issues! and then I'd say HAM costs needs to be reduced!
The only reason I hate 2.5x melee penalty is that I don't have a chance of killing whatever charges me.

I don't see it ever being fixed unless it becomes a rifleman issue. Noone else suffers from this as much as riflemen, 90% of my PvE deaths while leveling were due to warping mobs. I really don't see why this is not a rifleman issue.

This is not a rifleman issue because its a general game problem. As smiple as that. The problem is that they made a script to prevent exploiters to trap mobs and kill them without any risk. So when a mob get stuck somehow it just jumps to you. If i remember correctly they stated that they are aware of this issue.
And
doh these forums suck.. ![]()
. . . And anyway, it doesn't really matter what correspondents think, whatever gets most votes for being number one issue will go to Devs. Or i didn't understand it right?
Warping is a Rifleman issue. I understand that some think that the Rifleman correspondent should address rifleman issues. But this qualifies. Warping is a severe and know bug that serverly handicaps this profession. Granted it doesn't only effect us, but it seems to effect us the most. The obvious reason being that 2.5X melee mod and our need to keep distance from the target.
Fixing our broken specials and maybe tweaking some of them (I'd love to see Snipershot have some PvE use also). Fix our weapons (make the elite weapons actually elite) and their damage types (spraystick and tusken). Probably in that order.
Well i thing its not a smart move to 'spend' our opportunities on somthing that affects all classes, when other correspondents work to improve their professions.
For example,The combat classes designer stated thatthere is HAM cost balance pass atm. If we don't get our HAM costs fixed NOW we are gonna wait for a long time. When your mind is empty after 6 shots only (!!) it doesn't matter if the mob warps to you or there is a 2.5x melee penalty or not. You are going to die this way.
Well just my .02 ![]()

There's a concept in Economics known as the "Tragedy of the Commons." Basically, it asserts that in a situation where everybody has equal responsibility to address a specific common problem, nobody will bother addressing the common problem because they can rationalize in their minds that other people will address it.
You're saying "We should let it be someone else's problem." There are 11 other Combat Profession Correspondents that can very easily take the exact same view.
If the Riflemen (who are significantly more affected by the MOB warp bug than any other combat class) can't be bothered to make MOB warping their own pet issue, what makes you think any of the other 11 classes (who are not affected by this bug to the extent that we are) will bother to do so?
If we had a generic "Combat Correspondent" that addressed bugs like this that aren't specific to any given profession, then yeah, I can see us Riflemen blowing it off and letting someone else worry about it. But currently no such "Combat Correspondent" exists. So I agree with Seflyn: It needs to be our baby. Otherwise, it won't get fixed.

This can also be addressed. That's why there are a Top 5 issues every month, not just the top issue every month.
