Thread: The Outdoorsman
1. Our area track is becoming useless as people use the /who command. Our area track should include faction results too.
2. Our camps are less valuable since you no longer require them to pull pets or vehicles. Our camps should have the same abilities as a cantina or medical center. Especially the HTFBK.
3. Our traps don't improve hunts enough to have people request us to go along. The traps should be able to be used against NPCs and players!! Make us valuable. If we are trying to "hunt men" then when we find them we should be able to trap them. Maybe even make it so BHs want us to tag along.
4. The camo should camo us so well that NPCs, animals, AND PLAYERS can not see us. Camo, mask scent and cover from rifleman should make us invisible. Thus the concept of a ranger.
5. Our harvesting should be NOTICABLY more than even a master scout. So much so that players WANT us to accompany them on hunts to harvest and sell back to them.
6. This proffession should be looked at as a NEEDED component for a sucecssful hunt. Where players are 50% more successful becasue a RANGER is groupled.
7. It requires many skill points to master since it is an elite style proff. Make it worth our time.
8. Give us a special ability to infiltrate an area without being seen, or target and recon vuln times at faction bases or something.
Believe me this could be one of the most exciting proff. in the galaxy if it was tweaked just a little bit.

One might argue that the new trapping droid is similar in spirit to the Trap Launcher. Although I haven't had a chance to try one yet.

Change will come? Before or after the sky falls.

No. The droid community was very vocal and got much of what they wanted. Droids that would sell and make them a purposeful class. They did not request to become a DnD class in the Star Wars universe by requesting things such as a Bow and Arrow. They were very vocal unlike the "pleasant and peacful martyrs" of Rangerdome. Sometimes I think many of my fellow Rangers do not ever want to be a useful profession. Scout is useful, we just are not.
I'd argue that DEs got a revamp more because a large proportion of the players didn't like seeing all the creature pets around without any droids in a Star Wars game. Making useful droids was important to creating an atmosphere more reminiscent of the Star Wars films. We don't have such an argument to support us and so we wait a bit longer. Change will come.

I see one big problem with this proposal right off the bat. If you're going to have camps that have any sort of combat ability, ie turrets, mines, etc, and you can reassign these camps to tenders, that's going to get exploited. I can easily see a ring of camps with machine gun nests/rocket launchers being dropped around a base and signed off to group members reallly quick, basically allowing you to deploy turrets (if weak ones) around an enemy base, or even a friendly base as an extra ring ofdefense. Any sort of emplacement for use in pvp should cost faction, so perhaps the solution to this is having the modules be buyable off recruiters, or what have you. However, as this system is stated, exploit/cheapness potential is great. No one wants to see a bunch of people become rangers so they can drop a ton of rocket launcer camps and become the new cm.
Honestly I feel any pvp bonus to ranger should come from sneak attacks and traps. I know some fencers I'd love to adhesive mesh or conceal snipe from under my ghillie suit.
after much though (while I really do like the proposal) I MUST agree with Bihlbo about Camps. No turrets, no real trick factional stuff (That isfor SL). Just simple, yet working camps. Even eliminate the modular ability of crafting stations. Just put in 1 food and 1 weapon. I could not imagine what you would use a public armor or structure for in the field and not already have a droid with one on you.
So really just fix the camps we got! Dont really change them at all, just make them work as they should, with the addition of not dropping in combat and fix areatrack to acually be able to "track" something not on radar (our own mission term)

Camps
It's no news that Iam strongly opposed to the complexity you've used in the modular camp idea. I think the whole system would be much more user-friendly, fun to use, useful to the Ranger, and much less of a headache if it were limited to these modules only:
- Crafting Stations
- Faction Network (with a built-in covert detector)
- Humanoid Defensive Barrier
Each Ranger-level camp should be able to accept any of these, with better camps having more module slots and an increased module affectiveness modifier. In addition, these qualities should be inherant in all Ranger camps:
- The ability to logout safely and immediately
- A healing modifier that maxes out at 1.3 in the Master Ranger-level camp
- The ability to heal battle fatigue via entertainment
- Causes creatures to choose to stay away from the camp, with larger camps having a greater range and a greater chance to keep creatures away
- The camp supresses new creature and humanoid spawns in the area
- Engaging in combat does not cause a tender's camp to disband
- Vehicles in the camp do not lose hit points just by being out
- Pets regain HAM more quickly, depending on the healing modifier of the camp.
The less Ranger camps and Squad Leader camps overlap, the better.

Idea for ranger + Jump to Lightspeed!
How about adding a camp type that enables players to call their ships in the wild?
(If this was suggested already, sorry!)
