Actually, the base form of Rifleman speed is technically linear, it can be changed to form mx+b. m would be (-WS*TP)/100 and b would be -100m. (weapeon speed - WS, Time penelty of special - TP). At a speed skill of 100 isx cossover and y crossover is 100(-1*m). The problem is the granularity of how the speed skill is given out vs the weapon delays. The greater the skill, the less effect the slope has (WS and TP) as you approch x crossover.

For Ranger, first the slope is positive and right off the bat you can see that there is no x crossover in the actual datapoints used. Ranger form would be BH/100 for m and b=100m. x cross is -100 and the line tilts up and down with the Base Harvest (BH). There is no approching limit thus the BH affects both Ranger and Scout skill (RS and SS for the equations later). Work out the deltas and you get a Ranger harvest delta as compared to scout:

ΔRanger = (RS-SS)BH/100

this will be the increase in harvest skill. As the base harvest increases the gain increases and to a lesser effect the difference in skill. For Rifleman it's (MS - Master Skill,NS - Novice Skill)

ΔRifleman = (MS-NS)WS*TP/100

so it's not that far off in form. The problem comes as you aproch limits, where in Rifleman its a negitive slope, you hit the one second cap and you have lessoning effect of weapon and time penalty. In the Ranger vs Scout you have an expanding function with no limits and the delta is always the same factor. It's the slopes and limits that cause this effect, really.

Being the corr is like being a Ranger...the Ranger is always the first to be aggroed in the game and so am I on these forums . It is a (mostly) thankless job, but I hope to have at least 1 (but I would prefer many!) idea implemented during my time. I have accepted thatI can not make everyone happy, but I can try to make most people happy. I have also accepted that I can submit whatever I please to the devs, so HA!

As far as the bi-weekly question is concerned, TH is always telling the other Corrs that it is their perogative to choose what question they ask, if they are confronted with 2+ choices. I havehad it easy because we (mostly) agree on the question we want to ask. This time is a little more difficult as TH asked us all to dumb downour questions. We had a great one ready to go, but I thought it would be frowned upon after TH asked for more simple questions. Also, I asked that same question to TH and the Devs directly, so at least we may get a bone thrown to us with this new question. Somehow, I doubt it...

Dude, dumb down, is exactly the words that came to mind when you first posted that he asked the coor to do that. Which just proves our points made earlier about his "true" position at SOE. But I digress.

Of course, as you stated, you can submit what you want as your first choise. But if you have two, and really prefer/like one over the other, then submit that one. Even if you think he will reject it go ahead. What have you got to loose considering you have the backup? Just MHO.

As far as you being ranger coor, I think it's more like the rangers are a small trickle of water. It looks simple, innocent, non-harmful, and complacent. But over time it eats away, slowly and subtley at things, finds ways to crawl under, around and through to get at you. And then its to late. So good job in putting up with this trickle of water.

Well, since I missed all the fun discussions due to my internet being down, I will throw some questions out there just for the hell of it.

1. Were the additions promised to the Rangers last year (such as /track and new traps) planned on being released in August of last year, which was when we believed they would be included,or this year or possibly August 2005?

2. Are the developers aware that a profession called Ranger actually exists in game?

3. Are you ever gonna pay any attention to us?

4. Jedi SUCK! ..........Oh, it had to be a question? oops. my bad.

5. Like the document laid before the Smuggler community by GreenMarine, is there anything similiar to this that the Ranger community could look over and discuss while we patiently await our revamp? Even if it happens to be nothing more than potential ideas for the Ranger profession, it would at least give us something to work on.

Good luck with your current question Calc. And Nemo, your question rocked bro. And here is a thought. How about one week, we just do a freeze out and not ask a question or respond to TH at all. Freeze him out. That'll teach him to ignore us. Muahahahaha!

Does that mean TH is a big puddle? The questions just seem to sink and disappear.

As for ignoring TH, I'm tempted to agree with you. I just wonder if anyone would notice? Just send TH a nice post saying, "Oh, sorry we won't be able to get you a question this week. We are just a bit busy in our forum."

I would kind of like a question to find out...

"What direction do the Dev's have in mind for Ranger, are there plans currently in progress for a complete Ranger overhaul like we saw with Chef, De and soon to be Smuggler and Squad Leader? This way we can focus our collective efforts within the forums to help provide the Developer community with the most helpful feedback and input possible"

But I would hate to waste that question when I always thought the Correspondant could get that sort of feedback through whatever "correspondance" was built in as part of the correspondant program?

In the spirit of the fine tradition of ranger multi-part questions, I'd like to amend my question. I'd now like to know what Green Marine's favorite flavor of ice cream is AND what his favorite topping is.

GoldMemberBria wrote:

In the absense of anything but the "are you ever planning to..." or "when will you..." type of questions, my question would be:

"What is Green Marine's favorite flavor of ice cream?"

This could provide useful information

I worry about not posting for a week. Play Bothan for a week and you'll get a complex about not getting noticed. Example:

a few days ago, Fred and I decide we're gonna go hunting on Dath. Good meat, good hide, good times. Why not? So I get buffed, decide to go take one mission and come right back. So I do my little mission and Fred tells me he's getting his ent. buff. So I walk in and stand right next to him. I /wave and say "Hey Fred". No responce. So I send him a /tell "Hey Fred, I'm right next to you, just in case you didn't realize". He replies "okay, almost done." Thirty seconds go by. He thanks the entertainer, and I assume he tipped her. He then proceeds to run around inside the structure. He ducks outside, he comes back inside. Finally, I go and stand directly at the door. His responce "I guess I missed you afterall". Yeah. Bothans are short. We get unnoticed.

The same could be said of Rangers. We're a small community, and we don't tend to make a lot of waves. We're kinda self-reliant and patient. The problem is, many communites ARE'NT. That said, thesqueaking BH gets the grease. I mean the whiny wheel gets the LLC. I mean...well, you get it.

Thus, if we didnt' post for a week, it'd be that much easier for them to ignore us. Not that I'm in favor of the "other" tactic of discussing problems with the devs, but no amount of /ignore will get the devs to /unignore us. Basically, I'm in favor of asking questions that deal with specifics. Are the devs looking at Modular Camping? Which publish are the Rangers scheduled for? Things of that nature (though I'm not saying those should be our questions, I'm just using them as examples of being specific).

and we need to ask more about Green Marine's food preferances. also, we should find out what kind of stuff TH likes to eat. I could /foragethem up a weding cake...or some crushed watermelon.

hell, I'll just sendthem a bottle of hooch. Maybe if they gets drunk, they'll let loose the secrets of where Rangers are going.

perhaps the question should be: Will Bothans Rangers ever be able to use the English (or Basic) language without spelling words incorrectly or making syntactical mistakes a 6 year old could edit?
