Thread: Our Next Question for TH

Reading all of this I think a scope change is needed. Let me take a stab at it...

Our combat abilities as our profession is now is limited, causing us to be worse hunters then those dabbling or just Scouts. We have traps that feature a state changes that are only valid on targets we cannot use traps on. There are issues with /conceal and /areatrack. Camps are pretty much a joke now. Plus many more issues that are pretty crippling to how we are currently supposed to function. How much of this can be delt with in the upcomming Correspondants Issues patch? Would things like increasing harvest to compensate for combat abilitiy loss, allowing harvest of all resources (not just one) and addressing the Dizzy issue be included?

I went ahead and changed the question I submitted to this:

In the past, the Ranger Corr had submitted a request for a harvesting mod increase due to the fact that a Master Ranger harvests only a small percentage more than a Master Scout or even a Novice Scout. This was put into real perspective when only a few days ago, a Master Ranger with the Trandoshan harvesting bonus and using +13 Veghashwas a able to harvest 98 hide from a Woolamander Gatherer and a Human Novice Scout with Hunting 1 was able to harvest 55 hide from the same animal. Rangers would like to know:

Will Rangers get an increased harvesting mod (relative to Scouts)prior to or with the Combat Balance? If so, what sort of order of magnitude can we expect the bonus to be (2x, 5x, 10x)? Also, what is GreenMarines favorite flavor of ice cream? In addition to increased heavesting, how does the idea of Rangers harvesting all 3 resources from one critter sit with the devs?

I am not terribly happy with the wording and I reserve the right to change or delete the first paragraph . The description of the harvesting discrepancy actually happened to me last night and i was a hair peeved, especially because a Master Doctor/Master CM with Hunting 1 and Carbines 1 was able to harvest more than half of whatI could.

Oh well, I guess that is a good question. But the right to "delete" the entire first paragraph? Dude that's the whole question the community ended up wanting to ask. You seriously consider removing the primary question we wanted to ask? I won't even say what my opinion is on that.

Next question can we ask about the traps thing? And on everyones exp on not harvesting that much. It's kind of ironic that they added the system messages telling the whole group how much each person harvests. Now with that, we are seeing for sure just how much, or how little, we actually harvest.

What Fred said, plus I would suggest moving the 3 resource thing up to "...can we expect the bonus to be (2x, 5x, 10x), and if not, has anyone considered the possibility of rangers harvesting all 3 resources from a critter instead?"

That way, the ice cream thing is a zinger right at the end

Technically the first paragraph outlines a problem that the devs already know...that is why I said that I might remove it, not that I will! I was just thinking the TH may want to trim the fat, so that would be the first thing to go .

I'd say keep the first paragraph... it helps illustrate the problem.

Being the corr is like being a Ranger...the Ranger is always the first to be aggroed in the game and so am I on these forums . It is a (mostly) thankless job, but I hope to have at least 1 (but I would prefer many!) idea implemented during my time. I have accepted thatI can not make everyone happy, but I can try to make most people happy. I have also accepted that I can submit whatever I please to the devs, so HA!

As far as the bi-weekly question is concerned, TH is always telling the other Corrs that it is their perogative to choose what question they ask, if they are confronted with 2+ choices. I havehad it easy because we (mostly) agree on the question we want to ask. This time is a little more difficult as TH asked us all to dumb downour questions. We had a great one ready to go, but I thought it would be frowned upon after TH asked for more simple questions. Also, I asked that same question to TH and the Devs directly, so at least we may get a bone thrown to us with this new question. Somehow, I doubt it...

Sorry to say but that is a linear equation. Take a graphing program and plot it as a function of the player mod. You will see a straight line. The problem is that most people don't really understand what it means for an equation to be linear. The harvesting mod has a very similar function from my tests:

(1.0 + (Player_Mod/100)) * Base_Harvest_Amount = Harvested_Amount

That is also a linear equation. I agree that these equations are correct. But they are definately linear. On the other hand, if you consider what happens to your weapon speed from a +10 speed mod, you get the equation:

[[(100 - Player Mod) / 100] * Weapon Speed * Special Delay] / [(90 - Player Mod) / 100] * Weapon Speed * Special Delay = (100 - Player Mod) / (90 - Player Mod)

That equation is not linear and is likely the cause of most of the confusion. On the other hand, the harvesting mod would give this equation:

[(1.0 + (Player_Mod/100)) * Base_Harvest_Amount] /[(1.0 + ([Player_Mod + 10]/100)) * Base_Harvest_Amount] = (100 + Player_Mod) / (110 + Player_Mod)

That gives you a flat line. We do not see the huge growth that you get with weapon speed. A Master Rifleman is significantly more powerful than a 4/4/4/4 Rifleman because of the small speed mod increase. A Master Ranger is barely more useful thana Master Scout despite doubling the harvest mod.

BTW, sorry for dragging equations into this but I needed to point out the confusion.
